It is remarkable how many friends we all ran into on this stroll through the downtown art venues. The art which most struck me this time was an excellent exhibition of photos from inside the ruins of the Butner Building in Whittier (very "Life After People," if you caught that History Channel show) as well as a mind-blastingly vivid psychedelic flower print in electric blues and scarlet-orange tones.</div>

The wining and dining was outstanding on this particular First Friday. From veggie trays, pots of hot chili, and cheeses with crackers to cheesecakes, chocolates, and oatmeal-raisin cookies the galleries really put out. Wine and soft drinks in abundance, too. </div>
