So, I'm going to try and get the ball rolling earlier this time around to make something happen by next summer.
I don't post in here often but some of you probably remember me posting about solstice a while back and wanting to get a regional Burning Man-esque type of event happening in Alaska. I went to the Burn this year and was disappointed with a lot of things about the event and the overwhelming inattention to self-reliance, art, and safety third. So....
I'm trying now to get a group of people together that would be interested in organizing some kind of event in Alaska, that would take place in the summer, that is geared towards those of us a bit more freakish than the mainstream - art, fire, music, all the good stuff - without a $300 ticket and without endless lines of meatheads trying to get into your girlfriend's pants. Of course everyone is invited but a crew of people is necessary to make it actually happen.
I'm not sure of a location yet - I'm still shopping for land but obviously I'd want it to be in a place that is 1) private property (to avoid law enforcement hassles and BLM-style bribing to use public lands), 2) an agreeable location, 3) preferably GU1 zoning or something of the sort that is general use and has nice large cleared areas in the interest of fire performance - we don't want to burn the goddamn state down.
Anyone game?

Re: Annual arts festival in Alaska?
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 2:02 PMI would totally be down for something here, We in AK are so disconnected due to vast size of our state but a chance to actually get together and meet up would be a lot of fun. Let me know if there is anything I can do from the Anchorage side to get things organized.
