So we need a unique Alaskan festival that is like a co-mingling of Burning Man and Autonomous Mutant Festival.
I tried to get something together in 2007 but not enough time, money, or people to help.
Let's make it happen in 2008!
Possible locations include near Talkeetna, slightly north of Fairbanks, or ???? Scouting encouraged. I'm looking into a possible land purchase near Talkeetna but it might not be ready by this summer if I were to purchase it (needs a road access put in...)
Throw out ideas here. Let's setup a possible date in a month or so that we could all meet in person or have two meetings (Fairbanks and Anchorage) and then pool ideas, resources, and volunteers!

Re: So free pot wasn't an enticing enough title --- now introducing your Alaskan-style Burning-Man-esque party
Fri, January 4, 2008 - 9:17 AMIf you lead the Fairbanks team I will lead the Anchorage and we can meet in the middle for a big party (or wherever the best place pops up)
Lets get some dates for this shindig out there - how about late july? Weekends of the 19th or 26th or even August 2nd - any takers? -

Re: So free pot wasn't an enticing enough title --- now introducing your Alaskan-style Burning-Man-esque party
Fri, January 4, 2008 - 6:28 PMI think the weekend of the 19th might be our best shot - I think Anderson Bluegrass festival is the following weekend and Talkeetna Bluegrass and Girdwood Fair tend to be the first or second weekend of July.
I'm going to start getting word out here to find some folks interested in helping organize. I'm still not certain on a location. I'm rooting for a mid-way point between Fairbanks and Anchorage as long as it is on property that is big enough to anticipate...what can we guess maybe 50 people for a first shot at this? And not be somewhere that will overtax the location either in proximity to neighbors or damage to environs. Leave no trace!
Items we need to decide:
* 1 day gig or an overnighter or all weekend?
* Location of course
* Who wants to help take charge of what
Things I'd like to see at our little festival:
* a community kitchen / tea house
* a central space similar to center camp at BRC
* A sound system (I can help a lot with setup and operation, I've got 10 years event tech experience)
Things we probably NEED at our festival:
* A plan for waste management (garbage and human waste)
* security (as in the Please Force of the good old Hog Farm days)
* a plan for animal interaction and food management - we don't want bears muddling through our garbage and kitchens so we need to be responsible!
A lot of this we'll have to discuss in person or our North/South teams obviously. I need to scout out some locations between Fairbanks and maybe Talkeetna, is anyone down south willing to do the same coming north from Anchorage?
If you're not familiar with Autonomous Mutant Festival be sure to check it out: www.mutantfest.org/
I went in 2006 and have to say their model for a festival is pretty appealing far more so than BRC in my opinion. I'm sure we could find a spot on public land if private land doesn't work out.

Fri, January 25, 2008 - 4:54 PMWow hey I just posted about this I guess I should have read this first. I am interested in putting something together and have experience with shows here in alaska in all aspects including promoting. I have been a part of many festivals and would love to help create a burning man regional. I have access to a piece of property in trapper creek just north of talkeetna. The owner of the property actually hosted a mutant fest there in 2006 local. Funny. Anyways The dates would have to be worked out since there is 2 festivals we are already hosting there this year and we want to give the outhouses time to breathe between festivals.

Re: So free pot wasn't an enticing enough title --- now introducing your Alaskan-style Burning-Man-esque party
Fri, January 25, 2008 - 5:14 PMYes, I've been talking with Boot about hosting the festival I'm trying to organize - more like a mutant fest than a Burn regional but definitely inspired by and open to the burner community. arts, music, community.
i'm shooting for July 25-27th as the possible weekend since it falls kinda between Boots' other two festivals.
i am hoping to have sound - I had a plan in the works to purchase a system but that is on hold at the moment so I need to find another alternative in the meantime.

Fri, January 25, 2008 - 5:16 PMor we could tie it all up in one big freak-knot and have it be a mix of both mutant-style fest and burner regional - it really doesn't matter to me - i just want people to come, have a good time, share their art, and meet new folks...
