Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to play :)

Hooping has been a new adventure for me this year, one that I've found a lot of pleasure in. There's a kind of serenity in hoop dancing that I haven't found elsewhere.

I think Anchorage is ready for a hoop dance class, at least a workshop, or even just some play dates. I'd love to get some feedback from all of you -- are YOU interested? Do you know someone who might be?

Yeah!! I am interested. I don't have a hoop, but remember that you said they are easy to make. And I think I know some one else that might be interested.

I know couple dedicated hoopers, they also spin fire in the Alaska Fire Circus and do a flaming hoop. My boyfriend is also a great hooper so I'll send out the invitations.

      Sah-weet!

I have a number of hoops and also enough tubing to make probably 2-3 more. I can just give you one of my "blank" ones and you can decorate it however you want :)

I'd love to meet some other fire hoopers...I definitely need to do some work with my fire hoop, it'd be nice to do it with people with some experience.

I'd love to play if time allows. Does anyone know how to reach Athena? She's the fire hooper that danced with us at Sheila Wynes' party. She might be part of the fire circus. I think you two would really enjoy each other.

Hello! Where have you ALL been all my life? I'm so happy there's a growing hooping community in Alaska! I've been holding my own down in Homer, making hoops and organizing hoop groups. I'm teaching two hooping classes in Homer starting in September, and I would love to connect with the hooping scene in Anchorage. I'd love to help teach a workshop, or learn from others who are into teaching.

I'm also really interested in fire hooping, but don't know where to begin...

      Heya Hoopers,

So, I propose that we all get together at the Seward Music & Arts Festival, Sept 28-30.

Reasons Why It Just Might Work:
It's a little ways off, so everyone has time to plan their calendars accordingly.
It's a great mid-way point between Anchorage and the Lower Kenai Peninsula, so no one has to drive to far.
It looks like there's some bellydancing and circus acts already coming, so we'll be in good company!

Maybe, someone would like to throw together a Fire hooping workshop or something too.
I will bring a bunch of extra hoops, and help people make their own hoops, if they want.

How does that sound? Anyone else interested?

Hey all! I wouldn't be able to make it to the Seward gig, I have moving to do (YUCK!) but I am DEFINITELY interested in getting a more organized a AK hoop thing going on. Im pretty new to Hooping & dont have any other dance background, but I do love to dance & have LOTS of enthusiasm & determination! So whatever I can do to help get this thing off the ground, count me in!!! I went to a AK Fire Circus (www.myspace.com/akfirecircus) practice last wed. & met Roger & a few others. I had SO MUCH FUN! I also brought a bunch of hoops I made & we hooped it up. Everyone was really nice & friendly. They meet on the park strip, Wednesdays at 8p (per Roger) probably till the snow flies. (bring hats & mittens, cuz it got COLD!) I will definitely be there next week & plan to keep going. Anyone want to come play? Ive got plenty of hoops & will be making more. I had a really great time. I also plan on bringing a few friends & whoever else I can round up. Anyone got any info on where to hoop once the snow hits?? Kammi, I think I will be meeting you soon! Im going to be doing a hoopshop with Glitter Girl in Soldotna on Oct 14th. She has mentioned another hoop teacher from Homer & I can only assume she meant you. What a small little world it is! I cant wait to meet more of you, its so great to finally be finding some hoopers at home!

Is the fire circus practice only for hooping? Don't have fire hoop but have other fire toys...I teach unti 8:30 p.m. though...how long do you play? Do you light up? I met Athena a couple weeks ago and enjoyed performing with her...would love to meet others!

Hi Melissa, Ive only been to one practice(yet) but no its not only for hooping. Its for Fire Circus, but they don't seem to mind that I come & play. They did light up the last time. I got to mess around with a fire hoop but didn't get to light it cuz the wicks were wet. It was the 1st time I'd ever played with a fire hoop & I kept grabbing it in all the wrong spots, so its just as well it wasn't lit! They meet at 8 on the parkstrip (across from the big train) & I left the last time about 9:30 i think, but only because I got cold & was craving a hot toddy. They were all still there when I left. I would recommend layering up & wearing hats, gloves & warm, waterproof shoes. I wore my rubber boots last time & will again, but with fleece socks! Cuz its gettin chilly out there!! You can always email Roger on the AK Fire Circus myspace & get more details from him. Hes real nice & responds pretty quickly. It sure would be nice to have more hoopers! & who knows, maybe we can use the Fire Circus as a jumping off point to getting an Ak Hoopers group more organized. (Hopefully) So come on down & join the fun! Bring your fire toys & your favorite music. I have a bunch of hoops I'll be bringing if you dont have one. Hope to see you there! :)

          Hey Megan,
I had a blast in Seward! I turned a bunch of new people on to hooping, and gave little mini lessons to interested Festival goers. It was great. There was no actual meet-up of hoopers, like I was hoping, but that will come, I'm sure. Also, I wish I had arranged to do a little hoop performance on stage, but I did get some hoop dancing in to the music, and I even kept my little one up late enough on Saturday night to hoop to Nervis Rex.

There's a lot of interest in hooping building, and I'm planning on heading back to Seward to teach a workshop there. A workshop in Anchorage is also in the works. I just got my website www.cosmichoops.net up and running, so check it out when you have a chance.

I'd also love to help organize a bellydancing/hooping workshop in Homer and bring some of the great belly dancing talent I saw at the Seward Music Festival to Homer. We could use some inspiring acts like that!
