Re: Updates?
Wed, August 22, 2007 - 8:30 PMAs you know, Mike & I were up in Anchor Town over the weekend mainly to see YOU and Ansam at the Sat. market.
While we were up, we stopped in at Home Depot and purchased all the necessary items for hoop-making (including some mauve electrical tape).
Haven't made a hoop yet, but plan to commence hoop making 101 over the weekend.
Thinking about having a "hoop night" at our local Elks club...........any suggestions, ideas or joiners?
gotta go follow some bear tracks in the yard..................

Re: Updates?
Thu, August 23, 2007 - 12:17 AMLori,
I hosted a "moving meditation" dance night a couple years ago and invited a bunch of buddies. Had wine, cheese cookies, etc. We danced "ecstatically" improvisationally for about an hour in silence (well except for a LOT of giggling) and then commenced to make hoops. I brought all the stuff for hoop making in. At the end, we could finally talk and create at the same time. It was really fun!! That's were my first hoop came from. I never got past just goofing around with it....and still do. I love it though and enjoy thinking back to the night I made it. It's way bigger and fatter than the hoops Jo recommends. I'd love to make another one sometime if anyone ends up with extra "skinny" tubing. Gordon will beat me if I come home with another roll after storing mine for months before deciding to have a party and share. :-)!
I'll second Jo's motion that I prefer my silent hoop. The other one I made was stuffed with pebbles and so loud and annoying that I gave it to my Aunt and Uncle for their "cabin hoop".

Re: Updates?
Thu, August 30, 2007 - 2:15 AMSo where are you? In Kenai or Soldotna? I'd love to come join the hooping fun!
I'm in Homer, but always ready for a short road trip for some hooping action. I've been making hoops, and organizing a hoop group here in Homer. We meet every Wednesday at 11am at Bishop's Beach. I think we will move it inside in a few weeks when it starts getting a little colder, but so far the weather has been great.
Tell me how your hoop making went - I've been making them faster than I can hand them out!
The Hooping Revolution has arrived in Alaska! -

Re: Updates?
Thu, August 30, 2007 - 9:15 AMHi Kammi!
Most of us are in Anchorage, but we've got cohorts stashed EVERYWHERE :)
I heard there was someone in homer doing this!! I love the idea of a weekly hoop group, just need to find some indoor space for the winter months...
Let us know if you're coming to Anchorage! I've got a fire hoop that is dying to be practiced with, and I know there's one other fire hooper in town, but I haven't met her yet...
Hope to meet you soon! -

Re: Updates?
Thu, August 30, 2007 - 10:38 AMSweet, I met a fire hooper at the Girdwood Forest Fair, but didn't actually get hoop with her. (Was that you?)
I would LOVE to start firehooping!
A weekly hoop group is so fun and easy!
We did it outside without music for a few months, and now I just bought a boom box which I've been bringing along which adds a new element to it. It definitely helps to have a whole bunch of extra hoops because people just drop by and are curious, and want to try. I'd recommend some really accessible place like the park strip downtown, so you'll catch a lot of people's interest.
(Side note: I was hooping outside Snow City Cafe while waiting for a table, and a guy from the office upstairs came down and bought a hoop from me! It's fun to spread the hoop love to unexpected passerbys!)
Well, I can't make it to Anchorage this weekend, but I'm looking forward to connecting to the larger Hooping community! And, please let me know if any of you are coming to Homer! -

Re: Updates?
Fri, August 31, 2007 - 12:51 PMthat hooper was probably Katie (Snow's girlfriend)
we also have an up and coming mini-hooper..... Acacia, Melea's almost 7-yr. old daughter, is a great hooper!! She can get it up to her neck, then arms, then back down again. I hope you all get to see her hoop at some point.
