Hi,

Tomorrow morning my stuff will be loaded onto a truck and I will be moving to Albany (got an apartment in Schenectady for now) for work.

What are some good clubs (not Hip Hop) and restuarants?

I don't know how your year is shaping up yet, but for me, this year's personal calendar is filling up already with activities, travel, rides, and creative stuff in the planning stages.

Cobblestone to Blacktop

Whenever I hear of plans to pave over cobblestone, I always think it's a bad idea. Yes, I drive too, but I can't help feeling that a city loses a little character each time cobblestone is covered with blacktop.

Just a thought.

My best to you,

Fair Season Is Over

I had a great time at the Columbia County Fair this year. I'd planned to go to a few others, but that didn't work out for us, so this one had to suffice for my yearly "fair fix." They had all the right things there for a county fair -- livestock, poultry and other farm animals, food vendors, craft vendors including a glassblower we were delighted to find out hadn't retired after all but had passed the business on to the next generation, informational demos on things like leather work (but not tooling), silversmithing, embroidering, old-style weaving, Civil War-era demos, and other art/craft work, and of course a range of musicians.

My favorite happenings at the Fair this year:

1. Being serenaded by a barbershop quartet. Hey, how often do you have that happen to you?
2. Wandering through the farm animals taking photos for art reference, even though I had to act like a fool to get certain animals' attention for a decent photo.
3. Capturing the image of my sister and a cow appearing to share a hilarious joke. These are the sort of images we have to treasure in our photo albums.
4. Freshly made chocolate-covered strawberries.
5. Free hats.

My least favorite happening at the Fair:

1. By far, it was coming down with "walking" pneumonia, from which I'm only now recovering. Wow, that did me in.

My best to you,
Riding Season in the Albany Area

This has not been the ideal riding season so far, has it?

Between the days-long rains and thunderstorms and the upper 90's weather, I feel like we've barely been out of the house for other than business reasons or going from the house to visits at other people's houses. We're waiting patently for some decent riding weather.

At least the fairs are staring to happen around here now, if nothing else. I'm a soft touch for the local fairs, can't help it, it brings back memories. So I'll just grab my camera and head on over to a few of them.

My best to you,

Rainy Tulip Festival - Update

The Tulip Festival weekend is over, and I'll admit I didn't go this year due to the rain and a conflicting event.

Saturday was the day to go, however, with a day-long break of sun. I hope all went well for the Festival, and I guess I'll have to catch up with that event next year.

My best to you,

Albany Tulip Festival

One of my personal favorite events is Albany's Tulip Festival.

Now in its 58th year, the Albany Tulip Festival will have the usual great food vendors, botany-oriented artisans, and carefully cultivated examples of tulips, of course. There are other activities, but those are the reasons I attend.

Their website doesn't feature much vendor info or happenings during the Tulip Festival, which is odd, but we've always enjoyed the afternoon there. I liked the Greek lunches the best for quick food.

For a day in a park, with carefully arranged tulips for your photo shoots, artisan vendor shopping, and some great lunch, enjoy wandering through on your weekend time off.

I just hope the weather holds up well for that weekend.

My best to you,

Hi,

Thought I'd get this going with a first little note.

Every city has a personality, including Albany. This is about Albany and the surrounding areas of upstate New York.

So welcome, from an artist who resides nearby!

My best to you,
