The understanding of Daoist Mysticism in the West has been hampered by the lack of accessibility to the true knowledge of ancient Chinese magic. This esoteric information only survived through centuries of secrecy, traditionally handed down from master to student.

Even in China today, the general public has no true awareness of the incredible power hidden within the secret art of ancient Daoist Mysticism. Is Humanity Being Hacked?

Sometimes when I am in deep meditation I get the strong feeling of a higher intelligence speaking through me, through human culture, as if we are being hacked, used, programmed by something else. As Mark Pesce has said,

We don’t use memes, they use us.

For example I have entertained/experienced the possiblity that we are already being hacked by the machines we created. The Matrix allegory speaks clearly here, except I’m not so sure that its a bad thing. And of course we hack the machines - a symbiosis. But more curious is that this advancing technology was started by human minds, many of which could have been hacked by something else. By what or by who is the question. It’s no secret that many of the pioneers of the PC revolution were psychedelic explorers, and Terrence Mckenna has gone so far as to postulate that human language itself is an alien artifact planted in us by psychedelic mushrooms. I think it would be arrogant of us to dismiss this lightly and without further investigation.

The Night & Day house system was introduced as our direct answer to the challenge of a single house system that would answer the logical needs of the astrologer as well as serve as didactic platform for the initiate. The Night & Day house system reflects the observed sky. While this statement may seem blunt, it nevertheless encapsulates mysterious simplicity. Let us not forget that the WMAP cold spot is rising in Eridanus in the Night & Day house system and nowhere else in all astrology over the past 3000 years. Neither the Chinese nor the Sumerian ever had such a house system, albeit it is the most obvious of all, being the blunt refection of the skies as we observe them from this planet Earth. Something so simple is surely welcome into our own technical culture, especially as able to handle our next step. Which is our next giant leap forward as technical culture? The Night & Day house system is able to handle local zodiacs on spacecraft as fed by the board computer. In other words while obsolete house systems could not handle Oslo in Norway, we are able to process horoscopes at any speed in whatever alien galaxy. The first obvious improvements are of topocentric nature, namely the Night & Day house system is able to analyze the horoscope for an undersea quake, as well as set the houses for the birthplace of Dalai Lama. The Cartesian system works anywhere in the galaxy with equal precision. Altitude is an integral part of the horoscope, as it is based on topocentric standards as implied within the Cartesian system. Depression and altitude affect the position of the Moon as well as other factors in a horoscope, especially when extreme. This point was largely overlooked by amateur astrology programs, which never prompted the operator at entering the altitude of the place. Considering the major difficulties that a superstitious astrology had in the past 3000 years, we can bluntly state that altitude is a minor problem of the past, successfully solved within the Night & Day house system. The Night & Day house system is actually based on azimuth and altitude, as following the logick of the observer. When the Moon is conjunct Jupiter in Orion one can see it. Whatever is shown in the house system can be observed in the real sky. Prior to our house system one could not find any relationship with the real sky as astrology was rightfully considered blunder and superstition. The Night & Day house system is not in the least confined to planet Earth only. In extension, we were able to assign local zodiacs to all the planets of the solar system; in addition, experimental areas as ruled by the Earth coorbitals, outer guardians, dwarf planets or comets. xxvii Eris has been delineated as 2003 UB313 in the 12 houses of the horoscope. The original delineation are therefore unaffected by naming or even its nickname, Xena. Furthermore, “Eris in the 12 houses of the horoscope” has been separately applied to kids, the adolescent, women and even pets. This variegated approach to delineation follows on the trail of Quaoar, which has been delineated for love, finance and magick. Our first transneptunian delineation pertains to 1992 QB1. The major breakthrough was to come with 2000 WR106, Varuna; and whatever was written of Ixion, Sedna and 2002 TX300 is history.

A Book Review - Chi Gung: Chinese Healing, Energy and Natural Magick by L.V. Carnie

I've really been touched by this book and wanted to share a review with you. Lily of the Valley Carnie has written an informative and enlightening book on the study and practice of Chi Gung (Qigong) that brings a fresh perspective to this 4000 year old art. Also, I really dig the cover art... pine trees silhouetted at twilight against a sunset with the sky turning a delicious purple/orange with just a sliver of the moon showing... it's really awesome.

The first part of her book covers the fundamental principles and concepts needed for a training program in Chi Gung and includes topics like: Nei Dan vs Wei Dan training; Meridians and Cavities; the principles of Yin and Yang; the philosophy of the Five Elements; the Regulation on Mind, Body and Breath; and the Fire, Wind, and Water Paths of Chi Circulation. In addition, she presents a series of Chi familiarization exercises that provide a foundation for the exploration to follow.

In a departure from other Qigong books I've read, her book is arranged in a very “right-brained” fashion. You can open the book to virtually any page and find a lesson, exercise or discussion on Chi dealing with a specific topic such as focusing your awareness to enhance your sense of smell, or increasing your ability to feel the differences of colors, or becoming aware of your body movements and internal tensions while fly-fishing.

I love the way she encourages Chi Gung training in a wide variety of situations and this is what I feel sets it apart from other Chi Gung books. Since Chi is indeed a universal energy then one should be able to sense and apply it everywhere and Ms Carnie shows how you can bring the awareness of Chi to all manner of activities even reading a book or flying a kite. I like the way she encourages you to learn to apply Chi Gung to whatever activity you are engaged in, making the practice of Chi Gung an expression of you and your Art, whatever that may be.

The other thing I really like is the way she encourages the spirit of play when practicing Chi Gung. Since the flow of Chi through the body is hindered by tension and stress then being too serious in your training is a guaranteed way of limiting your potential. Ms Carnie recommends a fun approach to training that allows an awareness of the nuances and subtleties of Chi training to develop naturally.

She teaches in a conversational way that is both informational and fun and I highly recommend it.

Magick and Psychotherapy

Modern magick and psychotherapy share a number of commonalties. Both attempt to empower the individual, both attempt to discern the relationship of the individual to the universe, both attempt to make that relationship as functional, in terms of the individual's goals, as possible. Although many magicians might disagree, magick is also an attempt by the magician to integrate disparate elements of his or her personality into a unified whole, which is, of course, a primary goal in psychotherapy. This is not to say that magick is psychotherapy. Magick is clearly a quite different field of human endeavor. Psychotherapy generally has a sociological goal, that is the development of personality assets that allow the individual to function within society in an easy and comfortable manner. Magicians generally could care less about social approval, although they might well seek the approval of their magickal peers.

Psychodynamic approaches to psychotherapy (also known as psychoanalysis) seek to overcome defenses so that repressed materials can be uncovered, insight into personal motivation can be achieved, and unresolved childhood issues can be controlled. Psychoanalysis, probably because of its dismal success rate and enormous expense, has now pretty much given way to psychopharmacological interventions among psychiatrists. However, servitor creation and deployment certainly uses psychoanalytic techniques, to the extent that the magician attempts to discover obsessional thought patterns, tries to find out exactly what it is that he or she wants, and uses the material of his or her own psychological history as part of the material in the development of the servitor. The primary difference is that psychoanalysis seeks to bring repressed materials to the surface so that they can dissipate (if, in fact they do), while chaos magicians mine their own repressions and obsessions for energy to empower creations of their own imaginations, a goal that many psychiatrists might regard as being quite contrary to mental health.

Rather than looking at chaos magick in terms of its therapeutic uses as a psychodynamic form of therapy it may be more accurate to define it as a modality that looks remarkably similar to that adopted by situationalist or contextual psychologists. Situationalism, a view of personality championed by Walter Mischel argues that whatever consistency of behavior that is observable is largely determined by the characteristics of the situation rather than any internal personality types or traits. From this somewhat radical perspective it is arguable that personality does not actually exist, but is a construct placed by an observer on responses that an individual has to his or her environment. In other words, personality is contained in those behavior patterns the observer chooses to regard. Similarities in patterns of behavior result from similarities in the situation the individual encounters rather than any underlying traits or characteristics the individual might contain. This fluid conception of personality is integral to Chaos Magic which argues that it is not so much any internal validity (or consistency!) of belief structures that a magician may adopt that are important, but rather the tenacity with which the a magician can hold a belief during the period contained by the magical rite. Chaos magicians tend to be results oriented, more concerned, that is, with whether a magical rite works than with its consistency with any encompassing belief structures. Consequently the Chaos magician is quite content with adopting radically different personality characteristic than those with which he or she may find comfortable outside the space and period of the magical rite. Phil Hine, for example, cites a magician, who, wishing to pass a test in mathematics at college adopted the personality (to the best of his ability) of Mr. Spock from Star Trek for three days before the exam, and then passed the test with no problems. The magical practice of invocation, in which the practitioner adopts the personality characteristics of the deity or entity he or she invokes, also suggests that possession rituals are primarily situationist in underlying theory. The situation here is the expectation that the invoked God, demon, or entity will act in certain ways. Jan Fries, one of the clearest writers on magic derived from A.O.Spare, writes of the nearly epileptic seizures of contemporary Japanese spirit mediums:

"Dramatic healings have much to do with play acting and giving the audience the entertainment it desires. The medium or shaman pretends the eternal 'as if' which becomes the 'as is' in the act of doing."

To summarize, then, Chaos Magick is distinguished by its empirical approach to magic (techniques that do not actualize the magician's desires are discarded), by an assertion that personality is a construct comprised of belief structures the individual chooses to regard as containing consistent and constant elements, and by the idea that the primary obstacle to the actualization of a desire through a magical rite is the interference of the conscious mind. The underlying concept here is that there exists an unconscious, perhaps even a collective unconscious, termed by Jan Fries "the Deep Mind" and by A.O.Spare "Kia", but an acceptance of this idea, because of the situationalist approach of Chaos magicians, not necessary to the successful fulfillment of desires through magical rituals. It is, rather, part of the argument, a method to persuade Chaos magicians that the techniques may actually work, but the primary function is rhetorical, not substantive. This is, of course, a radical approach to magic, not to mention psychology, but it can be substantiated as an effective approach among certain individuals. To be sure, chaos magicians routinely use chaos magickal techniques for personal psychotherapeutic goals.

Phil Hine recognized this in his User's Guide:

"A purely psychodynamic model of Servitor operation would state that our psyche is made up of a very large cluster of forces which can be projected as intelligences, complexes, or subpersonalities (whether you're into magick, NLP, Jungian Psychotherapy, etc). These mental forces enable us to do some things but prevent us from doing others. By consciously realigning and redirecting these energies we can create Servitors which will enable us to do things which we couldn't do before, such as refrain from compulsive behaviors, thoughts, or emotions. In these terms, a Servitor is a conscious form of redirecting these largely unconscious entities so that they work for us."

I believe that chaos magickal techniques would actually prove quite valuable to psychotherapists in the treatment of abnormal behavior, but that, I'm afraid, is a topic for an entirely different essay.

Human Holography

Holographic living has been a recent repeating concept in my meditations. I’ve been exploring what it means to live holographically. What I’ve gathered is just a fraction of the information yet to come. Nevertheless, here is where I start.

Remember those 3-D Magic Eye books you spent hours looking at when you were younger? Remember that sometimes it revealed itself in seconds, and other times you couldn’t see it no matter how long you looked. This concept sparked a pivotal question for me—am I functioning with holographic information? And more importantly, am I being holographic? Let me back up one second and say that even though I was the one asking the questions, I didn’t necessarily understand the questions I was asking. Often I don’t until I get the answer; and sometimes not even then. But that has no bearing on my ability to integrate the information and evolve.

My first meditation on holography (did I make that term up? Maybe.) was quite revealing to me. I set my intention to work on healing some root chakra pictures. I used my version of AP to access information at Mary’s Garden—a wonderfully nurturing place if you’ve never been there. Once there, Mary led me by the hand to sit next to a waterfall. There she gave me a handful of dirt and told me to hold some earth while my root opened to heal. I could feel layers of pictures fading away as patterns around my relationships illuminated, then disappeared. Next, she handed me a crystal ball. This crystal ball was actually one I’d been playing with the week prior. It was not clear, but full of crystalline architecture that appeared in different formations depending on how it was positioned to reflect the light. I held this ball, and Mary said, “Do you see how the insides, although full of depth and myriad formations, only reveal that which is reflective? At each turn you see a different snapshot of what’s inside, but never do you get to experience the full depth. This is how you live; this is how most people live—reflecting only snapshots of themselves in the different situations that make up their lives.” I understood this very well. I’ve spent a lifetime compartmentalizing and rationing pieces of myself that fit this situation or that. Mary then went on to say, “In order to live holographically you must learn how to dance between the spaces of action and reaction. Then you will bring all of your depth to the moment.”

Here’s the dichotomy I’ve often faced in enigmatic situations like these; do I try to congnitively make sense of her words and label them, or do I just let them go and potentially miss the learning? I’ve realized lately that to run them through my cognitive realm is to dampen the learning, and sometimes actually prevent it. In this case, I set my intention to “integrate” and bypass the label piece. I came out of the meditation sure I had learned something magical about how to embrace my human holography, but unsure of what that would look like. It was the next day that I received my validation.

I was driving with my daughter who was quite upset and crying. I felt myself reflecting her cries back at her. I understand the concept of yielding, but I was unable to put it into practice in the moment. Then I heard Mary’s voice remind me to dance in the spaces of action and reaction. In that moment I became all of my depth so that her cries were no longer interacting with “Mommy”, but also with the many other facets of me. Her cries had the opportunity to experience my wholeness, and she instantly stopped. There was no conscious map I followed, no prescribed technique. I just went with the knowledge that my meditation prepared me with abilities I didn’t have before. I am eager to bring my holography into more of my life, and curious to see how it impacts my world. This journey has just begun for me, but is tapping information I’ve gathered and stored for eternity. God, I love those dichotomies!

Bodhi Dharma for free or on the cheap

I am collecting links to free dharma teaching for those who can’t afford the $10.00 to $20.00 that many centers ask for a class. I am sure it is worth it and I understand the need to pay bills and rent, but I barely have enough to pay my bills and rent. This doesn’t negate the need or importance of hearing or learning the Dharma. I think it is important and there are sources that offer it for free or cheap to those who can’t afford it. In the middle of the Vietnam war Thich Nhat Hanh and a few other Buddhist monks, nuns and laypeople broke with the 2500-year tradition of Buddhist apoliticism and founded the Tiep Hien Order in an effort to relate Buddhist ethical and meditational practice to contemporary social issues. Members of the order organized antiwar demonstrations, underground support for draft resisters, and various relief and social service projects. Though the movement was soon crushed in Vietnam, Nhat Hanh has carried on similar activities from exile in France, and the idea of "socially engaged Buddhism" has spread among Buddhists around the world. One of its main expressions in the West, the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, defines its purpose as being "to bring a Buddhist perspective to contemporary peace, environmental, and social action movements" and "to raise peace, environmental, feminist, and social justice concerns among Western Buddhists."

The emergence of engaged Buddhism is a healthy development. Despite the bullshit that Buddhism shares with all religions (superstition, hierarchy, male chauvinism, complicity with the established order), it has always had a core of genuine insight based on the practice of meditation. It is this vital core, along with its freedom from the enforced dogmas characteristic of Western religions, that has enabled it to catch on so readily even among the most sophisticated milieus in other cultures. People engaged in movements for social change might well benefit from the mindfulness, equanimity and self-discipline fostered by Buddhist practice; and apolitical Buddhists could certainly stand to be confronted with social concerns.

So far, however, the engaged Buddhists' social awareness has remained extremely limited. If they have begun to recognize certain glaring social realities, they show little understanding of their causes or possible solutions. For some, social engagement simply means doing some sort of volunteer charitable work. Others, taking their cue perhaps from Nhat Hanh' remarks on arms production or Third World starvation, resolve not to eat meat or not to patronize or work for companies that produce weapons. Such gestures may be personally meaningful to them, but their actual effect on global crises is negligible. If millions of Third World people are allowed to starve, this is not because there is not enough food to go around, but because there are no profits to be made by feeding penniless people. As long as there is big money to be made by producing weapons or ravaging the environment, someone will do it, regardless of moral appeals to people' good will; if a few conscientious persons refuse, a multitude of others will scramble for the opportunity to do it in their place.

Others, sensing that such individual gestures are not enough, have ventured into more "political" activities. But in so doing they have generally just followed along with the existing peace, ecological and other so-called progressive groups, whose tactics and perspectives are themselves quite limited. With very few exceptions these groups take the present social system for granted and simply jockey within it in favor of their particular issue, often at the expense of other issues. As the situationists put it: "Fragmentary oppositions are like the teeth on cogwheels: they mesh with each other and make the machine go round — the machine of the spectacle, the machine of power."1

A few of the engaged Buddhists may realize that it is necessary to get beyond the present system; but failing to grasp its entrenched, self-perpetuating nature, they imagine gently and gradually modifying it from within, and then run into continual contradictions. One of the Tiep Hien Precepts says: "Possess nothing that should belong to others. Respect the property of others, but prevent others from enriching themselves from human suffering or the suffering of other beings."2 How is one to prevent the exploitation of suffering if one "respects" the property that embodies it? And what if the owners of such property fail to relinquish it peacefully?

If the engaged Buddhists have failed to explicitly oppose the socioeconomic system and have limited themselves to trying to alleviate a few of its more appalling effects, this is for two reasons. First, they are not even clear about what it is. Since they are allergic to any analysis that seems "divisive," they can hardly hope to understand a system based on class divisions and bitter conflicts of interest. Like almost everyone else they have simply swallowed the official version of reality, in which the collapse of the Stalinist state-capitalist regimes in Russia and East Europe supposedly demonstrates the inevitability of the Western form of capitalism.

Secondly, like the peace movement in general they have adopted the notion that "violence" is the one thing that must be avoided at all cost. This attitude is not only simplistic, it is hypocritical: they themselves tacitly rely on all sorts of state violence (armies, police, jails) to protect their loved ones and possessions, and would certainly not passively submit to many of the conditions they reproach others for rebelling against. In practice pacifism usually ends up being more tolerant toward the ruling order than toward its opponents. The same organizers who reject any participant who might spoil the purity of their nonviolent demonstrations often pride themselves on having developed amicable understandings with police. Small wonder that dissidents who have had somewhat different experiences with the police have not been overly impressed with this sort of "Buddhist perspective."

It is true that many forms of violent struggle, such as terrorism or minority coups, are inconsistent with the sort of open, participatory organization required to create a genuinely liberated global society. An antihierarchical revolution can only be carried out by the people as a whole, not by some group supposedly acting on their behalf; and such an overwhelming majority would have no need for violence except to neutralize any pockets of the ruling minority that may violently try to hold on to their power. But any significant social change inevitably involves some violence. It would seem more sensible to admit this fact, and simply strive to minimize violence as far as possible.

This antiviolence dogmatism goes from the dubious to the ludicrous when it also opposes any form of "spiritual violence." There is, of course, nothing wrong with trying to act "without anger in your heart" and trying to avoid getting caught up in pointless hatred and revenge; but in practice this ideal often just serves as an excuse to repress virtually any incisive analysis or critique by labeling it as "angry" or "intellectually arrogant." On the basis of their (correct) impression of the bankruptcy of traditional leftism, the engaged Buddhists have concluded that all "confrontational" tactics and "divisive" theories are misguided and irrelevant. Since this attitude amounts to ignoring virtually the entire history of social struggles, many richly suggestive experiences remain a closed book to them (the anarchist experiments in social organization during the 1936 Spanish revolution, for example, or the situationist tactics that provoked the May 1968 revolt in France), and they are left with nothing but to "share" with each other the most innocuous New-Agey platitudes and to try to drum up interest in the most tepid, lowest-common-denominator "actions."

It is ironic that people capable of appreciating the classic Zen anecdotes fail to see that sharp wakeup tactics may also be appropriate on other terrains. Despite all the obvious differences, there are certain interesting analogies between Zen and situationist methods: both insist on practical realization of their insights, not just passive assent to some doctrine; both use drastic means, including rejecting pointless dialogue and refusing to offer ready-made "positive alternatives," in order to pull the rug out from under habitual mindsets; both are therefore predictably accused of "negativity."

One of the old Zen sayings is: If you meet a Buddha, kill him. Have the engaged Buddhists succeeded in "killing" Thich Nhat Hanh in their minds? Or are they still attached to his image, awed by his mystique, passively consuming his works and uncritically accepting his views? Nhat Hanh may be a wonderful person; his writings may be inspiring and illuminating in certain respects; but his social analysis is naï¿½ve. If he seems slightly radical this is only in contrast to the even greater political naï¿½vetï¿½ of most other Buddhists. Many of his admirers will be shocked, perhaps even angered, at the idea that anyone could have the nerve to criticize such a saintly person, and will try to dismiss this leaflet by pigeonholing it as some bizarre sort of "angry leftist ideology" and by assuming (incorrectly) that it was written by someone with no experience of Buddhist meditation.

Others may grant that some of these points are well taken, but will then ask: "Do you have any practical, constructive alternative, or are you just criticizing? What do you suggest that we do?" You don't need to be a master carpenter to point out that the roof leaks. If a critique stirs even a few people to stop and think, to see through some illusion, perhaps even provokes them to new ventures of their own, this is already a very practical effect. How many "actions" accomplish as much?

As for what you should do: the most important thing is to stop relying on others to tell you what you should do. Better make your own mistakes than follow the most spiritually wise or politically correct leader. It is not only more interesting, it is usually more effective, to pursue your own experiments, however small, than to be a unit in a regiment of units. All hierarchies need to be contested, but the most liberating effect often comes from challenging the ones in which you yourself are most implicated.

One of the May 1968 graffiti was: Be realistic, demand the impossible. "Constructive alternatives" within the context of the present social order are at best limited, temporary, ambiguous; they tend to be coopted and become part of the problem. We may be forced to deal with certain urgent issues such as war or environmental threats, but if we accept the system's own terms and confine ourselves to merely reacting to each new mess produced by it, we will never overcome it. Ultimately we can solve survival issues only by refusing to be blackmailed by them, by aggressively going beyond them to challenge the whole anachronistic social organization of life. Movements that limit themselves to cringing defensive protests will not even achieve the pitiful survival goals they set for themselves.

The FDA has been known to use legal maneuvering to try to end your access to natural health products (like vitamins, minerals and herbs) and natural health therapies of all sorts. We believe they are at it again. This time, their ploy is to issue a "Guidance" that implies these therapies can be "Medicine," which
creates the risk that any non-physician who uses them could be held to be practicing medicine without a license. Since these practices could be considered "Medicine" any products intended for such use could be considered untested drugs and could therefore be forbidden.

Public, professional and industry comments are being accepted by the FDA on the proposal, that we view as a sly maneuver to "capture" alternative procedures and products as "medicine" and then make them illegal. If You're Conscious, How Can You Die?

COHEN: Yes. But one could live next to a chemical plant and get poisoned, or live next to Chernobyl and get cancer from radiation, and that wouldn’t necessarily have anything to do with any negative thinking, right?

RAGNAR: It’s a hard question to answer because people get very sensitive when you say anything about personal responsibility. But I think that if I had been living in the Ukraine, there would have been something inside me that said, “Get out of here, boy; get out of here.” You know, whenever a severe storm comes, if you look around here, the animals are gone. They disappear; they know. All you have to do is listen to nature, and it tells you everything and anything you need to know about life. The animals know without knowing all the time. Not some of the time, not part of the time, but all of the time. And we do too.

COHEN: But there were thousands of people who would have had no warning. I mean, that has to be part of the equation, doesn’t it?

RAGNAR: When do we have no warning? I’ve said this so many times, and I know it bugs people. It irritates them when I say, “Look, you never have an accident without being warned at least three times in advance. It’s just that you fail to hear or see or perceive the very warning that’s before you.” Nothing happens to us without us first being told about it. It’s like the tsunami. Where did the animals go? They already knew.

COHEN: Yes, that was amazing.

RAGNAR: Well, we have the same faculty.

COHEN: But let’s say you’re driving through a town where the water has been completely polluted, and you don’t know it. And you happen to go to a diner and drink a cup of tea or something, and then eventually, you get cancer as a result.

RAGNAR: You’d know it. You’d know it ahead of time.

COHEN: But how would you know?

RAGNAR: Are you familiar with behavioral kinesiology, or muscle testing?

COHEN: Yes.

RAGNAR: Okay. How is it that certain things weaken us and certain things strengthen us? Our body tells us. Our body sends us a signal, and that signal either weakens or strengthens us. The other day, someone was asking me about some testing equipment for kinesiology. And I said, “I don’t need the testing equipment. I’ve already got it; it’s inside me.” I can look at something or think of something, and I know the feedback loop. I know whether it comes back “this is good” or “this is bad.” It’s the same feedback loop that all animals have.

COHEN: So, in other words, you’re saying that when you become more and more conscious, you become more sensitive to what you should do and what you shouldn’t do, a direction to go in or a direction not to go in, a place to eat or a place you shouldn’t eat, that kind of thing? That your intuition will evolve in leaps and bounds, and you will experience a level of sensitivity and intuitive knowing that most people would ordinarily be unaware of, or wouldn’t even be able to imagine?

RAGNAR: Precisely. Now, I know people will say, “You’re making me feel guilty now. You’re making me feel uncomfortable because I don’t have that.” And I say, “But you can. It’s something that develops in time. It’s all called consciousness.” Some of us have been at it longer, that’s all. Some of us have grown up faster. It’s just a part of our evolution. We grow more conscious if we work at it, and if you make a commitment to work at it, then you have the ultimate protection. You’re always in the right place at the right time for the right reason—you are never not. Nothing can happen to you that you do not designate if you are that conscious.

Now, let’s say my belief is wrong. Okay, we’ll find out. But the neat thing is that your confidence is bolstered once you realize that the process works. It works in little ways, and if one is conscious enough to see it working in little ways, then you will see it working in dramatic ways. I choose to believe that everything works because you are more conscious. If you’re conscious, everything works in your favor. And if you’re unconscious, everything works against you.

COHEN: Is that because if you’re more conscious, you’re at one with the life process? So then the process itself opens up within you and before you and around you?

RAGNAR: I’ll give you an example. The other day, a wild coyote came out of the forest, came right up to me. I was outside, and I opened the door and said, “Do you want to come in?” It said, “Sure.” And it came in. I said, “Let me fix you a meal.” So my wife and I fixed him a meal. I handed him a cookie, and he said, “Thank you, I really appreciate that.” I said, “Well, I appreciate your visit. It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Coyote.” And so now Mr. Coyote comes back and forth. But this is the relationship we have with all the animals because I see that as an extension of my own energy. This is life force, just the flow of life force. It’s like I have a kite, and he’s on the other end, and the wind is blowing, so he runs through the forest. And then when I wind up the kite, here he comes again.

We have deer, a whole bunch of deer, and when we walk out there, they come up and nose me. We give them apples. I know the wildlife people in the park would go crazy if they heard me telling this story. But I say, “Hey, they love me, because I love them, and they have nothing stopping them from feeling that.” We have a wild boar—I mean, you ought to see this thing. He’s got a mane like a big black lion and burning red eyes—especially at night—and these big tusks. It would scare the hell out of anybody if they saw him. We call him by name; I call him Rasputin. He comes running up and dances around in a circle on the deck. He loves us. And this thing is totally wild. If a stranger came here, they’d never see this happen. They wouldn’t see a bear, they wouldn’t see a deer, and they certainly wouldn’t see the coyotes. The birds leave, too, when the vibrations are wrong or off.

Now, what does that tell you about life? All life is one, and if you’re in harmony with it, you can walk out into the middle of a forest, walk up to a strange deer, and touch it. The first time a mama bear came, I was out in the woods. I laid down in front of her, and she came over and sniffed me. And I showed her that I was totally surrendered, that I wasn’t going to hurt her. I have not one ounce of fear or negativity about these animals. You know, she was pregnant, and she brought her three cubs. She brought them right to our bedroom door, and we babysat the cubs while she went off and had some free time. This is on a regular basis. I’ve got photographs of this. The cubs would come in the bedroom, and we’d watch them until she came back half an hour later. And then off they’d go with their mama, because there’s no disconnect. There is no separation. It’s all one beautiful picture. However, when people with other energies come—people with fears and apprehensions—they don’t see a thing. The world changes. It’s a different world. And between the two worlds, I choose this one.

I recently sprouted the idea to use mind mapping in creating servitors and sigils or/and as the servitor or sigil it self. Has anyone already done this? What do you think?

It is interesting on many levels. One being that it is asthetically pleasing, to me anyway. Another being that it is using both hemispheres of your brain. What would this last one have to do with your minds? Whats the difference between your brain and your mind? How would bringing closer together, the concious and unconcious affect the process of creating and firing a sigil?

This is an amazing idea and one which I have some experience with. I have had the experience of feeling my body/psychology as a swirling construct, a relative reality when viewed against the Whole Sky of Being. This experience was a conscious, waking one. It was great to find it spoke of in this book…..

The Three Minds correspond to the Three Tan Tiens or major energy centers within the body. They can store, transform and supply energy to and from eachother, the spinal cord, sexual organs and other major organs. The Upper Tan Tien is located within the Upper Brain, the Middle Tan Tien is located in the heart and the Lower Tan Tien in the abdomen.

If the Upper Brain generates too much energy, it can subsequently transfer and store it in the organs; heart, lungs, liver, spleen, stomach, pancreas and kidneys). Excess sexual energy can also be stored in the organs and the Three Tan Tiens. The Taoists, understanding these principles, learn to generate, refine and store continually increasing amounts of energy within the body. As these energies multiply, it becomes necessary to practice growing the virtuous energy which provides for true alchemy, exchange with heaven, earth and universal energies and all those whom we share our lives with.

Does Objective Reality Exist, or is the Universe a Phantasm?

In 1982 a remarkable event took place. At the University of Paris a research team led by physicist Alain Aspect performed what may turn out to be one of the most important experiments of the 20th century. You did not hear about it on the evening news. In fact, unless you are in the habit of reading scientific journals you probably have never even heard Aspect's name, though there are some who believe his discovery may change the face of science.
Aspect and his team discovered that under certain circumstances subatomic particles such as electrons are able to instantaneously communicate with each other regardless of the distance separating them. It doesn't matter whether they are 10 feet or 10 billion miles apart. Somehow each particle always seems to know what the other is doing. The problem with this feat is that it violates Einstein's long-held tenet that no communication can travel faster than the speed of light. Since traveling faster than the speed of light is tantamount to breaking the time barrier, this daunting prospect has caused some physicists to try to come up with elaborate ways to explain away Aspect's findings. But it has inspired others to offer even more radical explanations.
University of London physicist David Bohm, for example, believes Aspect's findings imply that objective reality does not exist, that despite its apparent solidity the universe is at heart a phantasm, a gigantic and splendidly detailed hologram.
To understand why Bohm makes this startling assertion, one must first understand a little about holograms. A hologram is a three- dimensional photograph made with the aid of a laser. To make a hologram, the object to be photographed is first bathed in the light of a laser beam. Then a second laser beam is bounced off the reflected light of the first and the resulting interference pattern (the area where the two laser beams commingle) is captured on film. When the film is developed, it looks like a meaningless swirl of light and dark lines. But as soon as the developed film is illuminated by another laser beam, a three-dimensional image of the original object appears.
The three-dimensionality of such images is not the only remarkable characteristic of holograms. If a hologram of a rose is cut in half and then illuminated by a laser, each half will still be found to contain the entire image of the rose. Indeed, even if the halves are divided again, each snippet of film will always be found to contain a smaller but intact version of the original image. Unlike normal photographs, every part of a hologram contains all the information possessed by the whole.
The "whole in every part" nature of a hologram provides us with an entirely new way of understanding organization and order. For most of its history, Western science has labored under the bias that the best way to understand a physical phenomenon, whether a frog or an atom, is to dissect it and study its respective parts. A hologram teaches us that some things in the universe may not lend themselves to this approach. If we try to take apart something constructed holographically, we will not get the pieces of which it is made, we will only get smaller wholes.
This insight suggested to Bohm another way of understanding Aspect's discovery. Bohm believes the reason subatomic particles are able to remain in contact with one another regardless of the distance separating them is not because they are sending some sort of mysterious signal back and forth, but because their separateness is an illusion. He argues that at some deeper level of reality such particles are not individual entities, but are actually extensions of the same fundamental something.
To enable people to better visualize what he means, Bohm offers the following illustration. Imagine an aquarium containing a fish. Imagine also that you are unable to see the aquarium directly and your knowledge about it and what it contains comes from two television cameras, one directed at the aquarium's front and the other directed at its side. As you stare at the two television monitors, you might assume that the fish on each of the screens are separate entities. After all, because the cameras are set at different angles, each of the images will be slightly different. But as you continue to watch the two fish, you will eventually become aware that there is a certain relationship between them. When one turns, the other also makes a slightly different but corresponding turn; when one faces the front, the other always faces toward the side. If you remain unaware of the full scope of the situation, you might even conclude that the fish must be instantaneously communicating with one another, but this is clearly not the case.
This, says Bohm, is precisely what is going on between the subatomic particles in Aspect's experiment. According to Bohm, the apparent faster-than-light connection between subatomic particles is really telling us that there is a deeper level of reality we are not privy to, a more complex dimension beyond our own that is analogous to the aquarium. And, he adds, we view objects such as subatomic particles as separate from one another because we are seeing only a portion of their reality. Such particles are not separate "parts", but facets of a deeper and more underlying unity that is ultimately as holographic and indivisible as the previously mentioned rose. And since everything in physical reality is comprised of these "eidolons", the universe is itself a projection, a hologram.
In addition to its phantomlike nature, such a universe would possess other rather startling features. If the apparent separateness of subatomic particles is illusory, it means that at a deeper level of reality all things in the universe are infinitely interconnected.The electrons in a carbon atom in the human brain are connected to the subatomic particles that comprise every salmon that swims, every heart that beats, and every star that shimmers in the sky. Everything interpenetrates everything, and although human nature may seek to categorize and pigeonhole and subdivide, the various phenomena of the universe, all apportionments are of necessity artificial and all of nature is ultimately a seamless web.
In a holographic universe, even time and space could no longer be viewed as fundamentals. Because concepts such as location break down in a universe in which nothing is truly separate from anything else, time and three-dimensional space, like the images of the fish on the TV monitors, would also have to be viewed as projections of this deeper order. At its deeper level reality is a sort of superhologram in which the past, present, and future all exist simultaneously. This suggests that given the proper tools it might even be possible to someday reach into the superholographic level of reality and pluck out scenes from the long-forgotten past.
What else the superhologram contains is an open-ended question. Allowing, for the sake of argument, that the superhologram is the matrix that has given birth to everything in our universe, at the very least it contains every subatomic particle that has been or will be -- every configuration of matter and energy that is possible, from snowflakes to quasars, from blue whales to gamma rays. It must be seen as a sort of cosmic storehouse of "All That Is."
Although Bohm concedes that we have no way of knowing what else might lie hidden in the superhologram, he does venture to say that we have no reason to assume it does not contain more. Or as he puts it, perhaps the superholographic level of reality is a "mere stage" beyond which lies "an infinity of further development".

Bohm is not the only researcher who has found evidence that the universe is a hologram. Working independently in the field of brain research, Standford neurophysiologist Karl Pribram has also become persuaded of the holographic nature of reality. Pribram was drawn to the holographic model by the puzzle of how and where memories are stored in the brain. For decades numerous studies have shown that rather than being confined to a specific location, memories are dispersed throughout the brain.
In a series of landmark experiments in the 1920s, brain scientist Karl Lashley found that no matter what portion of a rat's brain he removed he was unable to eradicate its memory of how to perform complex tasks it had learned prior to surgery. The only problem was that no one was able to come up with a mechanism that might explain this curious "whole in every part" nature of memory storage.
Then in the 1960s Pribram encountered the concept of holography and realized he had found the explanation brain scientists had been looking for. Pribram believes memories are encoded not in neurons, or small groupings of neurons, but in patterns of nerve impulses that crisscross the entire brain in the same way that patterns of laser light interference crisscross the entire area of a piece of film containing a holographic image. In other words, Pribram believes the brain is itself a hologram.
Pribram's theory also explains how the human brain can store so many memories in so little space. It has been estimated that the human brain has the capacity to memorize something on the order of 10 billion bits of information during the average human lifetime (or roughly the same amount of information contained in five sets of the Encyclopaedia Britannica).
Similarly, it has been discovered that in addition to their other capabilities, holograms possess an astounding capacity for information storage--simply by changing the angle at which the two lasers strike a piece of photographic film, it is possible to record many different images on the same surface. It has been demonstrated that one cubic centimeter of film can hold as many as 10 billion bits of information.
Our uncanny ability to quickly retrieve whatever information we need from the enormous store of our memories becomes more understandable if the brain functions according to holographic principles. If a friend asks you to tell him what comes to mind when he says the word "zebra", you do not have to clumsily sort back through some gigantic and cerebral alphabetic file to arrive at an answer. Instead, associations like "striped", "horselike", and "animal native to Africa" all pop into your head instantly. Indeed, one of the most amazing things about the human thinking process is that every piece of information seems instantly cross- correlated with every other piece of information--another feature intrinsic to the hologram. Because every portion of a hologram is infinitely interconnected with every other portion, it is perhaps nature's supreme example of a cross-correlated system.
The storage of memory is not the only neurophysiological puzzle that becomes more tractable in light of Pribram's holographic model of the brain. Another is how the brain is able to translate the avalanche of frequencies it receives via the senses (light frequencies, sound frequencies, and so on) into the concrete world of our perceptions.
Encoding and decoding frequencies is precisely what a hologram does best. Just as a hologram functions as a sort of lens, a translating device able to convert an apparently meaningless blur of frequencies into a coherent image, Pribram believes the brain also comprises a lens and uses holographic principles to mathematically convert the frequencies it receives through the senses into the inner world of our perceptions.

An impressive body of evidence suggests that the brain uses holographic principles to perform its operations. Pribram's theory, in fact, has gained increasing support among neurophysiologists.
Argentinian-Italian researcher Hugo Zucarelli recently extended the holographic model into the world of acoustic phenomena. Puzzled by the fact that humans can locate the source of sounds without moving their heads, even if they only possess hearing in one ear, Zucarelli discovered that holographic principles can explain this ability. Zucarelli has also developed the technology of holophonic sound, a recording technique able to reproduce acoustic situations with an almost uncanny realism.

Pribram's belief that our brains mathematically construct "hard" reality by relying on input from a frequency domain has also received a good deal of experimental support. It has been found that each of our senses is sensitive to a much broader range of frequencies than was previously suspected. Researchers have discovered, for instance, that our visual systems are sensitive to sound frequencies, that our sense of smellisin part dependent on what are now called "osmic frequencies", and that even the cells in our bodies are sensitive to a broad range of frequencies. Such findings suggest that it is only in the holographic domain of consciousness that such frequencies are sorted out and divided up into conventional perceptions.

But the most mind-boggling aspect of Pribram's holographic model of the brain is what happens when it is put together with Bohm's theory. For if the concreteness of the world is but a secondary reality and what is "there" is actually a holographic blur of frequencies, and if the brain is also a hologram and only selects some of the frequencies out of this blur and mathematically transforms them into sensory perceptions, what becomes of objective reality? Put quite simply, it ceases to exist. As the religions of the East have long upheld, the material world is Maya, an illusion, and although we may think we are physical beings moving through a physical world, this too is an illusion.
We are really "receivers" floating through a kaleidoscopic sea of frequency, and what we extract from this sea and transmogrify into physical reality is but one channel from many extracted out of the superhologram.
This striking new picture of reality, the synthesis of Bohm and Pribram's views, has come to be called the-holographic paradigm, and although many scientists have greeted it with skepticism, it has galvanized others. A small but growing group of researchers believe it may be the most accurate model of reality science has arrived at thus far. More than that, some believe it may solve some mysteries that have never before been explainable by science and even establish the paranormal as a part of nature. Numerous researchers, including Bohm and Pribram, have noted that many para-psychological phenomena become much more understandable in terms of the holographic paradigm.

In a universe in which individual brains are actually indivisible portions of the greater hologram and everything is infinitely interconnected, telepathy may merely be the accessing of the holographic level.
It is obviously much easier to understand how information can travel from the mind of individual 'A' to that of individual 'B' at a far distance point and helps to understand a number of unsolvedpuzzles in psychology.
In particular, Stanislav Grof feels the holographic paradigm offers a model for understanding many of the baffling phenomena experienced by individuals during altered states of consciousness. In the 1950s, while conducting research into the beliefs of LSD as a psychotherapeutic tool, Grof had one female patient who suddenly became convinced she had assumed the identity of a female of a species of prehistoric reptile. During the course of her hallucination, she not only gave a richly detailed description of what it felt like to be encapsuled in such a form, but noted that the portion of the male of the species's anatomy was a patch of colored scales on the side of its head. What was startling to Grof was that although the woman had no prior knowledge about such things, a conversation with a zoologist later confirmed that in certain species of reptiles colored areas on the head do indeed play an important role as triggers of sexual arousal. The woman's experience was not unique. During the course of his research, Grof encountered examples of patients regressing and identifying with virtually every species on the evolutionary tree (research findings which helped influence the man-into-ape scene in the movie Altered States). Moreover, he found that such experiences frequently contained obscure zoological details which turned out to be accurate.
Regressions into the animal kingdom were not the only puzzling psychological phenomena Grof encountered. He also had patients who appeared to tap into some sort of collective or racial unconscious. Individuals with little or no education suddenly gave detailed descriptions of Zoroastrian funerary practices and scenes from Hindu mythology. In other categories of experience, individuals gave persuasive accounts of out-of-body journeys, of precognitive glimpses of the future, of regressions into apparent past-life incarnations.
In later research, Grof found the same range of phenomena manifested in therapy sessions which did not involve the use of drugs. Because the common element in such experiences appeared to be the transcending of an individual's consciousness beyond the usual boundaries of ego and/or limitations of space and time, Grof called such manifestations "transpersonal experiences", and in the late '60s he helped found a branch of psychology called "transpersonal psychology" devoted entirely to their study.
Although Grof's newly founded Association of Transpersonal Psychology garnered a rapidly growing group of like-minded professionals and has become a respected branch of psychology, for years neither Grof or any of his colleagues were able to offer a mechanism for explaining the bizarre psychological phenomena they were witnessing. But that has changed with the advent of the holographic paradigm.
As Grof recently noted, if the mind is actually part of a continuum, a labyrinth that is connected not only to every other mind that exists or has existed, but to every atom, organism, and region in the vastness of space and time itself, the fact that it is able to occasionally make forays into the labyrinth and have transpersonal experiences no longer seems so strange.
The holographic paradigm also has implications for so-called hard sciences like biology. Keith Floyd, a psychologist at Virginia Intermont College, has pointed out that if the concreteness of reality is but a holographic illusion, it would no longer be true to say the brain produces consciousness. Rather, it is consciousness that creates the appearance of the brain -- as well as the body and everything else around us we interpret as physical.
Such a turnabout in the way we view biological structures has caused researchers to point out that medicine and our understanding of the healing process could also be transformed by the holographic paradigm. If the apparent physical structure of the body is but a holographic projection of consciousness, it becomes clear that each of us is much more responsible for our health than current medical wisdom allows. What we now view as miraculous remissions of disease may actually be due to changes in consciousness which in turn effect changes in the hologram of the body.
Similarly, controversial new healing techniques such as visualization may work so well because, in the holographic domain of thought, images are ultimately as real as "reality".

Even visions and experiences involving "non-ordinary" reality become explainable under the holographic paradigm. In his book "Gifts of Unknown Things," biologist Lyall Watson describes his encounter with an Indonesian shaman woman who, by performing a ritual dance, was able to make an entire grove of trees instantly vanish into thin air. Watson relates that as he and another astonished onlooker continued to watch the woman, she caused the trees to reappear, then "click" off again and on again several times in succession.

Although current scientific understanding is incapable of explaining such events, experiences like this become more tenable if "hard" reality is only a holographic projection. Perhaps we agree on what is "there" or "not there" because what we call consensus reality is formulated and ratified at the level of the human unconscious at which all minds are infinitely interconnected. If this is true, it is the most profound implication of the holographic paradigm of all, for it means that experiences such as Watson's are not commonplace only because we have not programmed our minds with the beliefs that would make them so. In a holographic universe there are no limits to the extent to which we can alter the fabric of reality.

What we perceive as reality is only a canvas waiting for us to draw upon it any picture we want. Anything is possible, from bending spoons with the power of the mind to the phantasmagoric events experienced by Castaneda during his encounters with the Yaqui brujo don Juan, for magic is our birthright, no more or less miraculous than our ability to compute the reality we want when we are in our dreams.
Indeed, even our most fundamental notions about reality become suspect, for in a holographic universe, as Pribram has pointed out, even random events would have to be seen as based on holographic principles and therefore determined. Synchronicities or meaningful coincidences suddenly makes sense, and everything in reality would have to be seen as a metaphor, for even the most haphazard events would express some underlying symmetry.

Whether Bohm and Pribram's holographic paradigm becomes accepted in science or dies an ignoble death remains to be seen, but it is safe to say that it has already had an influence on the thinking of many scientists. And even if it is found that the holographic model does not provide the best explanation for the instantaneous communications that seem to be passing back and forth between subatomic particles, at the very least, as noted by Basil Hiley, a physicist at Birbeck College in London, Aspect's findings "indicate that we must be prepared to consider radically new views of reality".

I start with the premise that each person wants to experience both itself and the matrix more fully. By doing so, it attracts and creates far better (more intense) sensations for itself. The difference between attracting and creating sensations are typified in an ancient Chinese symbol most people are familiar with, the yin-yang. To experience the difference involves a meditation. The experience is kinesthetic, which means you feel it, and what’s more: you feel it within yourself. Most meditations involve either visualisations or feeling outside of yourself, such as watching or feeling your breath. The nose is a long way from centre, and we are feeling inwards. All meditations are valid to the people of the matrix, some have more intense sensations around them, some give us what we are questing for, whereas most don’t. If you wish to feel the difference between yin energy and yang energy do this meditation. I’ll explain the difference more fully shortly.

Preparation:

This is the same for both meditations and is a fairly common meditation in itself. Sit with your back straight, perhaps on a chair as I prefer, or else on the floor, or perhaps lay down and start by taking a few slow deliberate breaths and close your eyes. Allow your consciousness to roam freely within your body, settling eventually in your toes. Focus on the feeling within your toes and feel the space within your toes. Move to the sole of your foot leaving just the shell of your toes, i.e. your toes are empty space. Move your consciousness upward within your body: toes, soles, feet, heels, ankles, calfs, shins, knees, thighs, buttocks, anus, sexual organs, hips, kidneys, stomach, inner body, lungs, heart, slowly up the spine, throat. Then along the arms, doing each finger one at a time, hands, wrists, fore-arms, elbows, biceps & upper arms, armpits, shoulders, nape, neck, chin, mouth & tongue, nose, eyes, third eye, ears, back of head, top of head then inside head. I’ve found it useful spending 10-15 minutes emptying the body/feeling the space until the whole body is felt to be empty space.

The consciousness is then directed to the centre of your body, let your consciousness sit quietly centred for a short time, surrounded by the shell. The heart region is the centre of the body for the purposes of this and the following meditations and is called the heart chakra, in Eastern texts.

Yin: Once you are centred to your own satisfaction, that is, your consciousness is at the heart chakra: let go of the shell which is to say fall through the shell. The feeling you’ll have is of falling and the energy is yin. There is a point where consciousness says “hang on!” and you climb back up. You then need to create the space within your body again, though it can be done much more rapidly as you deem fit. Centre yourself again and drop again. Note the feelings you get, but avoid intellectualising just yet. This isn’t head-stuff. These are physical energies you’re learning how to experience.

Yang: To best feel the difference between Yin and Yang, follow straight on from the Yin meditation once the feelings have been noted. On alternate meditations, start with the Yang then follow with the Yin. Centre yourself again, placing consciousness at heart chakra, then direct your consciousness now to your innards as you breath. Trace a mental circle within your body starting below the navel, breathing in: tracing around to the top of the lungs then breath out: tracing the circle down the other side within yourself. Get a good circle within yourself. Once you’ve got the circle happening within yourself, feel the sensation you have at the upper and lower points of the circle, that is, between breathing in and breathing out. Feel the Yang at these two peaks within each cycle. Chi: It took me 3 attempts at this meditation before I felt the difference so persevere if the results aren’t felt on first go. After 6 attempts or so, the difference between Yin and Yang energies becomes blatantly obvious and I can feel the difference now, as easily as I can feel the keyboard under my fingers. The combination of Yin and Yang energies results in the basic substance of life, Chi, which goes under various names. In English it is best described as the LifeForce, or just the Force for 2 reasons: - It encompasses death. - I’m a fan of Star Wars.

Before continuing with more techniques, I’ll explain the difference as a combination of what I’ve read and of what I’ve felt. These 2 energies have different charges. I’ll join the consensus by calling Yang “positive” and Yin “negative”. Yang is a creative energy, a potential; Yin is a passive energy, a void to be filled. Yang is described as male and Yin as female. I feel these descriptions as inaccurate and wonder where they originated. Perhaps the social standing of women at the time, being more passive, caused these descriptions. More likely, it has to do with the physical qualities of women and men. The sexual organs are manifestations of Yin and Yang. However, the sexual difference between Yin and Yang energies is not relevant today. Women and Men have equal access to Yin and Yang energies. I know I do. The Taoists describe the first manifestations of Yin as the Moon (Thai Yin) and of Yang, the Sun (Thai Yang). [Almost?] all mythologies describe the Sun as masculine and the Moon as feminine, assumingly because the Sun was active and the moon was passive. I agree that calling the Sun Yang; and the Moon Yin is more accurate than the sexual descriptions of these space bodies. I am talking about energy, and access to energy here.

The energy spurned by the combination of Yin and Yang, results with Chi. This is far more easy to experience than the two as separate entities. Simply, sit still and upright with your hands about 2 feet apart palms facing each other. Put your consciousness between your hands (feel what is there) and slowly bring your hands together until you feel the barrier between them (about 3-6 inches apart for starters). This is Chi energy that you can feel. If you have troubles with this, rub your hands together deliberately and try again. I have no doubt that you will feel this. Many people can see it too, usually it is of an electric blue colour or else [as I do] a golden sphere, though to date I don’t know the difference. Often visualising the golden sphere helps in bringing the energy to your fingertips.

Visualize one of the 2 colours as you deem fit, but not white, as many books and teachers recommend. White is Pure Yang energy, and the quest for enlightenment needs to be balanced with the quest for endarkenment if it’s quested at all, in my honest opinion. Let me explain how I define some terms: Enlightenment is the attainment of a pure Yang energy. The enlightened direct what they are doing, and know where they are going, and how to get there. The enlightened usually arrive where they are Heading. The energy is one of potential, of movement, of creativity. It is the active force in the matrix. Endarkenment is the attainment of a pure Yin energy. The endarkened finds something to do, and knows how to [literally] ride the flows of energy in the matrix. There is a powerful intuition attainable with endarkenment. The energy is one of acceptance, of being moved, of inspiration. It is the passive force in the matrix. Based on these definitions, neither can be labelled “Good” or “Evil”, nor can they be labelled “Masculine” or “Feminine”, but labels and definitions vary widely in the spiritual communities. I base my definitions on my experience. Your experiences may be different.

An example may help to illustrate, that of a painter. Painter Yang, has an idea, gets the necessary equipment, and paints with a great deal of passion producing a masterpiece. Painter Yin, has an idea, gets the necessary equipment, and relaxes. Yin lets the art be it’s own inspiration and produces a masterpiece. It remains to be seen what Painter YinYang, aka Painter Chi, can do.

So, you’ve now created an energy sphere in your hands. This can be quite potent, yet there is more power available elsewhere. Put your palms flat on your thighs and re-enter the empty space within your whole body. Instead of generating the Force within your hands, you generate it at the heart centre, and have your centre of consciousness there. It’s a little harder to get started with this energy, primarily due to us always using our hands, and never spending much time feeling our hearts. Once it is felt (connected with consciously), the power raises many times over. Also note if you can feel that the energy from heart centre is different to the energies of the hands, and different parts of the body. Accurately, the higher on the body you stimulate energy within, the higher the frequency of the energy. A common mistake is to believe that higher = better. There is a whole science of the different parts of the body and their energies, which deserves it’s own later section. Known as chakras.

Naomi Ozaniec writes in her discussion on the raising of the Kundalini Force up the chakra network: “The spinal network of energies is a vital part of the subtle anatomy of the human individual. The chakras are strung upon the inner column of sushumna [the spinal meridian] like jewels on a necklace. It is this central column which unifies the separated chakras into a whole. It is possible for high levels of energy to rise up from the base chakra through the spinal nadi [meridian] and dramatically affect all the chakras simultaneously.” The chakras, are more than that. They are matrices within the body. Each has it’s own energy, each can be felt. There is a ritual called the Middle Pillar, published by various authors. This ritual is calling the energy downwards. If you are a student of rituals such as this, experiment with going upwards and note the difference in energies available. If you have experienced your own energy to some degree of definite success, you may desire to enter a group structure.

{Editor’s Note: It’s remarkable how closely America’s current decent into a police state parallels that of Germany in the 1930s. You already know that the major ‘crisis’ news items are themselves staged events: 911, the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993, the Oklahoma City bombing, the Bali bombing, the embassy bombings in Africa, the Madrid train bombing, the ‘anthrax letters’ (October 2001, as an excuse for stampeding through the unconstitutional Traitor’s Act {Orwellian title: “The Patriot Act”}, and similar ‘crisis’ news events were carried out by operatives and agents of the CIA, Mossad, military special forces, civilian ‘black ops’ contractors, etc.

I hope you also realize by now that most radio talk shows are intended to function as either propaganda outlets to promote the Illuminati’s ‘illusion masquerading as reality’ agenda or to produce alarm and anxiety in their listeners in order to serve the ‘fear production/inability to think’ manipulation mentioned above. All of those fascinating interviews we hear on the radio about the impending oil shortage from the likes of Michael Ruppert (CIA family) or the calamitous predictions we get from Father Andrew Wingate (military background) or the Nostradamus predictions, or the Ed Dames crap or the coming ‘plagues’ of Bird Flu, West Nile, etc., or the fearsome ‘coronal mass ejections’ from the sun or the ‘inevitable’ asteroid collisions with Earth and similar ’science news’ we get from Tavistock directed propagandist Michio Kaku, etc., are ALL intended to produce fear and anxiety, although those voices of doom and gloom would vigorously deny that was their intention. I still listen to many such radio interviews, of course, but they no longer cause me anxiety or alarm. Rather, they provide me with intelligence information about the person promoting the propaganda, or the direction of the disinformation/misinformation, or the intended plans of the treasonous manipulators and it gives me an opportunity to plan ahead or to think about a solution or countermeasure to thwart the staged disasters being ‘predicted’, etc.

You should also keep in mind that there are hundreds of web sites which are under covert control and intentionally promote fear or anxiety (while pretending to ‘enlighten’) while many other web sites act as unwitting pawns for the dark side and parrot the doom and gloom hysteria of the above ilk. Note well that the author of the article below mentions that the German people of the 1930s were kept ‘busy’ and ‘fascinated’ with continuous changes, with ‘crisis’ news and with tales of national enemies. Don’t allow yourself to be manipulated this way into passivity and inaction. Take a stand and get involved with the task of defeating the satanic minions who are attempting to destroy America and its people. Anyone can simply apply their will, their mind, their intentions, and their prayers ( a prayer is a petition for help and assistance) to defeating the destructive agenda. Prior to that, we had chemtrails being laid down recently, but we also had Sylphs flooding in immediately to destroy those chemtrails and prevent the chemtrail overcast and haze out that we were so accustomed to prior to Don & Carol Croft’s wonderful observations about orgone generators and their effects on the atmosphere, on bodies of water, on microwave ‘cell phone’ towers, on nuclear power plants, on building structures which house dark activities, on negative aliens, on demonic influences, and on people’s emotional outlook and sense of optimism. The Power of Chaos In Zen and the Tao

The emperor of the South Sea was called Shu [Brief], the emperor of the North Sea was called Hu [Sudden], and the emperor of the central region was called Hun-tun [Chaos]. Shu and Hu from time to time came together for a meeting in the territory of Hun-tun, and Hun-tun treated them very generously. Shu and Hu discussed how they could repay his kindness. “All men,” they said, “have seven openings so they can see, hear, eat, and breathe. But Hun-tun alone doesn’t have any. Let’s trying boring him some!” Every day they bored another hole, and on the seventh day Hun-tun died.*

Hun-tun, that is Chaos, is not to be confused with the chaos as typically seen in the western world as in “chaotic.” It is the supreme ideal of Taoism. Chaos is wholeness, oneness and Nature. Chaos represents the natural state of the world. Digging holes on the head of Chaos means destroying the natural state of the cosmos. Therefore, to the ancient Chinese chaos not only has the meaning of disorder but also presents a respectable aesthetic state. This idea of chaos may be very different from its western counterpart.

CHAOS MAGIC

Imbeded in all of the above is what has been called Chaos Magic. The term “Chaos Magic” is modern day terminology for something that has been cultivated and used in Shamanism and by others of similar ilk in cultures all over the world for centuries under other names and terms, sometimes even, no name. That which is Chaos Magic, like Obeah, is awesome, potent, compelling and in the wrong hands, highly dangerous. It’s secret lies in its POWER. Sometimes even a person’s White Light Shields are vunerable to collapse, be rendered impotent, or buckle to another’s stronger power when pitted in a test of strengths.

Adherents to Chaos Magic express there is an underlying inter-connectedness and inter-relatedness of everything in the universe. What seems random or chaotic has a higher “order” that can be perceived from a great enough perspective. From this arises the life force, the tendency for matter to accrue intelligence.

Philosophically, Chaos Magic bears a resemblance to Taoism and Zen with a strong dose of the Sanskrit Siddhi. Success hinges on self-annihilation of the Self stripped bare to the Non-Self (Anatta) or Death of the Ego, so there is a lot in common with the Nagarjuna and Madhyamaka schools of Zen. It has been said the effect of a Zen Buddhist Koan on the discursive mind is a small taste of what a Chaos Magician seeks. The practice of Chaos Magic can be destablizing because it’s designed to deconstruct belief. Like psychedelic drugs, it can drastically alter your reality.

Because all dualism is an illusion Chaos Magic does not discriminate between so called “white” or “black” magic, say such as seen through the eyes of a Diablero for example, a shaman-sorcerer with an evil bent said to be the type teacher of Don Juan Matus who Carlos Castaneda apprenticed under. Being morally neutral, Chaos Magic is probably not for those who have not already come up with a well-developed code of personal ethics. Chaos Magicians are sometimes defined as “black magic” magicians, but NOT as defined by those who see the dark side of existence as merely “evil”. As with Kali Ma, the Black Goddess of Hinduism, who takes away the darkness from every individual who strives in the path of perfection by performing the spiritual disciplines of purifying austerities. Just as all the colors of the spectrum mix into black, yet still black remains black, so too, Kali, who is completely Dark, Unknowable, takes away all the Darkness, yet She, Herself, remains unchanged. If their magic is “black”, it is because it deals with that which is dark and hidden.

As I watched Londoners in the street going about their lives there appeared a Dark Luminosity within each being. Yet at the same moment there was a strange feeling that they were no more than sleepwalking robots utterly oblivious to that shining nature within themselves. The life force of each person was somehow entrapped within a dull dreaming shell which seemed to prevent any contact with the real and what could have been aflame with consciousness was gray and lifeless.

Free medical school! Sounds impossible to US citizens. When people first hear it, they can't believe that Cuba has offered and is proving totally free medical education of various specialties to poor and minority students from countries all over the world. How could Cuba, a "3rd World" country itself really be doing this. If they do a simple web search, it turns out that not only has Cuba provided such training to thousands of specialist from the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa, but more recently, they even offered this training to US students!

Of course the student has to apply and then qualify, but it's not money that matters, its motivation and readiness to serve under-served communities. And you only have to read the US press these days to see how badly our costly medical system is failing to serve Americans of all incomes, but it is the minorities, unemployed and working poor who are served the worst.

After years of training students for free from other Latin American countries, Cuba first offered this free training to the US in 2001 (see below) and expanded it from 8 initial qualifiers, to 60 in 2003 and more coming. Then in 2005 Katrina exposed the many ways US government institutions don't serve their own people, again treating the poor and minorities the worst. You may not know that Cuba immediately responded to Katrina by quietly offering hundreds of highly trained, crisis experienced and fully equipped physicians to the US. They didn't publicize it at first so the US government wouldn't have the excuse to say Cuba was just doing this for propaganda, but the US ignored Cuba's offer anyway. The US spokesmen even publicly listed all the other countries that had offered aid, but purposefully left Cuba off the list! So faced with this callous insult to a humanitarian offer, Cuba publicly announced they were upping the offer to at least 1,400 doctors, ready with medicines to fly to the US in several hours. This time the US authorities lied and said they didn't need the Cuban help. The truth is that many hospitals and services in the New Orleans and Gulf Coast are still not functioning and during the last year, thousands of people have gone with no or inadequate medical help.

Can we even imagine what these crises experienced 1,400 Cuban doctors might have contributed? The have helped in other hurricane devastated areas and provided surgery and care in devastated areas such as the earthquake areas of Pakistan. Then this is not surprising, because these 1,400 are just part of the 10's of thousands of doctors that Cuba has sent free to countries where they are desperately needed, all over the world.

The approach to medicine in Cuba and that they offer to those in need in other countries is different than most medicine practiced in our country. This different approach and philosophy and years of anti "socialized medicine" propaganda is part of why most US citizens know nothing about the millions served by Cuban doctors in the Americas. Free doctors, free eye operations, doctors in the barrios because local physicians won't go there and now even offers to train US doctors who will return to offer medical care in this same spirit!

Clearly, in 2006 in the US, we don't need more medical insurance or new prescription plans. We need access as a right to healthy, healthcare, for all who need it and delivered in a manner that encourages the best outcome. Cuba and the countries working with Cuba are trying to bring this about for those most in need.

The have helped in other hurricane devastated areas and provided surgery and care in devastated areas such as the earthquake areas of Pakistan. Then this is not surprising, because these 1,400 are just part of the 10's of thousands of doctors that Cuba has sent free to countries where they are desperately needed, all over the world.

The approach to medicine in Cuba and that they offer to those in need in other countries is different than most medicine practiced in our country. This different approach and philosophy and years of anti "socialized medicine" propaganda is part of why most US citizens know nothing about the millions served by Cuban doctors in the Americas. Free doctors, free eye operations, doctors in the barrios because local physicians won't go there and now even offers to train US doctors who will return to offer medical care in this same spirit!

Clearly, in 2006 in the US, we don't need more medical insurance or new prescription plans. We need access as a right to healthy, healthcare, for all who need it and delivered in a manner that encourages the best outcome. Cuba and the countries working with Cuba are trying to bring this about for those most in need.

How this is seen on the world stage is described in Znet's article on why Cuba got so much support for the new UN Human Rights Council and the US didn't even run makes the link:

Its a different philosophy and approach, than the US's reliance on money, privatization, corporate medicine and maybe a little bit of charity and an occasional visit by generous rich personalities. We need a better approach.

The Fourth Dimension by John Grau

It seems to me that there is a lack of clarity over just what the fourth dimension is. And also on what exactly the Fourth Dimension does. In-fact, on many web-pages that I visit, I find an array of documents that say that the fourth dimension is the fragment of the whole Emotional Plane which is known as the Astral Plane – which it is surely not.

The truth of the make-up of the fourth dimension is veiled in the ‘impossible structures’ of mathematical artists, such as M.C. Escher, and which is quite brilliantly depicted his ‘Day and Night’ illustration which is shown below.

I recently came across an essay by Stephen Mace that really clicked and reminded me of various meditations that were similar to his version of a simple banishing.

I am gonna post an excerpt of a few reasons for banishing along with why one might decide to banish that are a little different from the common ritual reasons. I will post his simple banishing as well.

I am wondering what you guys are doing along these lines and for what reasons. What kinds of variations do you know and what do you find effective for various situations?

Here goes some excerpts from Mace...

"...banishing rituals also have another, more long-term function. Through their habitual repetition (three or four times a day for the rest of your life), they build up your aura so it becomes impervious to external psychic currents, unless you deliberately choose to let them influence you. Then weather you banish on any particular occasion or not, you will find yourself less susceptible to fads, authority, the enthusiasm of crowds, and the beliefs imposed by politicians, advertisers, and consensus reality in general. Such a diamond-hard aura will allow nothing but your own will to influence you as you create the reality you need to carry you through life."

The banishing...

" To begin, concentrate your thought in the point between your ears and behind your eyes.
Imagine a vertical line of light passing through it from beneath your feet to about ten centimeters above the top of your head.
Imagine a spot of light about thirty centimeters in front of your point of view. Use this spot to trace a circle around your head.
Then use it to trace an ellipse from in front of your face, over the top of your head, down your back, under your feet, and up the front of your body to the top of your head.
Finally, use it to trace a third ellipse from down the right side of your body, under your feet, and up the left side to the top of your head. You should now be in the center of a cage of light....
With your defenses in place, all you need to do is burn out your aura. To do this, transform the vertical line you first visualized into a pillar of fire. Let it expand out through the three rings, burning up any and all thoughts and images until there is nothing left but the three rings glowing blue-white."

I am sure that whatever tradition you are working in, you can see parallels with this. Maybe the points and lines or perhaps colors or some missing colors, lines or different directions. Of course this can be elaborated on or adapted.

I am also wondering if anyone know exactly what tradition Mace is getting his version from.

The Ultimate Fighting Anarchist

He is, without a doubt, the toughest subscriber to In These Times. Standing 5’ 9” tall, weighing 240 pounds and sporting a shaved head, Jeff “The Snowman” Monson looks like a cartoon ready to pop, a compressed giant of crazy shoulders, massive biceps and meaty forearms.

When he sneers, people shudder. When he sweats, they turn away. When he’s angry, your best bet is to run.

He’s angry right now, even though his combat career in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)—an often-bloody tournament that combines martial arts disciplines like Brazilian Jujitsu and Muay Thai Kickboxing—is taking off. In February’s pay-per-view event, Monson easily beat his opponent with a chokehold in the first round. If things keep going this way, he could have a title shot in the heavyweight division, against the explosive Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski. So no, it’s not his future career prospects that have him pissed. It’s the state of the world.

“I’m not some sort of conspiracy theorist,” Monson says of his political leanings. “I’m not talking about how the government is trying to hide UFOs. I just want to do away with hierarchy. I’m saying that our economic system, capitalism, is structured so that it only benefits a small percentage of very wealthy people. When I was traveling in Brazil, they had us staying at a really posh hotel. Outside the hotel there was a mom sleeping on the sidewalk with her two kids. That’s when reality hits you. What did that woman ever do? Who did she ever hurt?”

Monson wears his politics on his sleeve, as well as the rest of his body. An anarcho-syndicalist star is tattooed on his chest, an anarchy sign on his back and another “A” on his leg. While he loves his sport, he also feels a responsibility to use whatever exposure he receives for a larger purpose. “I don’t think I’m more important than anyone else, but since some people are paying attention, then I’m going to use this as a vehicle to express myself,” he says. Some fans have labeled him anti-American, but he shrugs off such criticism. He was slightly taken aback, however, when three Secret Service agents showed up at his gym in Olympia, Wash., last fall.

A t-shirt prompted the visit. While Monson was preparing for a fight in Portland, a film crew came to the gym and recorded his outfit that day, which included a tank top that read “Assassinate Bush.” When he entered Portland’s Rose Garden for the fight, a video clip of him training in the shirt was played on the Jumbotron, and after he finished off his opponent in the first round, he was more interested in speaking to the post-match media about the devastation of Hurricane Katrina than his fight career. He mentioned his anger that the Bush administration had diverted $76 million from the Army Corps of Engineers for the levies, and that the National Guard were in Iraq instead of Louisiana and Mississippi. “I was making a political statement, trying to open people’s eyes,” says Monson of his t-shirt and post-fight comments.

Not long after, he had three sets of open eyes walking through the doors of his gym. “The Secret Service told me that they wanted to search my gym and my house. They said that if I refused, they would have a warrant within an hour.” They poked around the gym and then headed over to Monson’s house. “I told them that they could go to my house if they wanted, but that I was going to stay here and finish my workout,” Monson says, not sounding the least bit intimidated. “They haven’t bothered me since.”

The UFC fighting style is called Mixed Martial Arts, but at times it looks more like a barroom brawl, especially to non-practitioners who miss the technique and strategy. It’s easy to poke fun at the event: heavily muscled and tattooed men wearing skimpy skin-tight trunks, celebrity models in the stands beside drunk frat boys wearing wife beaters with their caps on backwards. Its popularity has skyrocketed, thanks in part to the self-styled “first cable network for men,” Spike TV, which has a UFC-based reality show. Tickets can go for nearly $1,000, and sell out quickly.

But the sport is more than mere show. Monson works hard to maintain his gargantuan body. When preparing for a match, he’ll train six days a week—lifting weights, running, boxing, grappling—and though a veteran at 33, he feels like he’s just now reaching his prime in what he believes is the hardest sport in the world. “I would describe it as the evolution of unarmed combat,” Monson says. “You have to know kickboxing, jujitsu, wrestling. If you don’t know how to do even one of them, you’ll be beaten bad.”

Despite his build, Monson is more technician than brawler, and in 1999 and 2005 he won the Abu Dhabi World Submission Championship, held annually in that tiny country recently making headlines, the United Arab Emirates. He takes each UFC fight very seriously. “You can use any technique, and you have to be in great physical shape. You’re facing a guy that’s trying to knock you out or submit you, so it’s no joke.”

Monson sees no contradiction between his radical beliefs and his full-time occupation. “What I do is completely different than war, because everyone wants to be there, and it’s a competition. There’s no victim. We’re all entertainers,” he explains. “If there is any contradiction, it’s that we’re part of the capitalist machine, and I’m really just a wage slave. You know, we don’t make any money without fighting, and if I win I get more; if I lose I get less. But it’s simply a sport. Sure, it’s somewhat like a gladiator sport, but it’s voluntary.”

Monson grew up middle class in Minnesota. His mother still works as a nurse, and his late father worked at a penitentiary. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he wrestled, and then received his Masters in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. During his graduate work, Monson had his political awakening—a course entitled Community Psychology.

“Oh man, that class really opened my eyes,” he says. “Just looking at the way the world is run, the way that the people that might be disabled or have mental issues are left behind. How education and general welfare are not a priority, and how the elite run everything for their own benefit. Then I started reading a bunch of stuff—Animal Farm, the International Socialist Review, Chomsky—and I started thinking in a different way.” Monson the Ultimate Fighter uses Plato’s allegory of the cave to describe the experience.

After graduating from Minnesota, he moved to Washington State, where from 1997 to 2001 he counseled the mentally ill for Lewis County; his primary responsibility was to determine whether an individual needed to be institutionalized. “I started right when they were pushing through welfare reform, and so we had all of these huge cuts in money for mental health and welfare. It’s the same basic idea with No Child Left Behind. The government tells you that you have to cut your programs, cut your money for books, cut the money for teachers, but then you are expected to somehow do better. It’s a brilliant strategy, really, from their perspective.”

Despite being a world-class competitor, Monson finds time to remain politically engaged. In 2003, he marched against the Iraq War in Seattle, and protested the Free Trade Area of the Americas in Miami (where the notoriously aggressive cops wisely left Monson alone). He is also a member of the Industrial Workers of the World, and despite the controversy that surrounds him, continues to engage people within the fighting community about politics.

So what lies ahead for “The Snowman”? At the moment his focus is on his next big fight. On April 15, he’ll be back in the Octagon—the distinctive eight-sided ring of the UFC—hoping to make quick work of Marcio “Pe de Pano (Sugarfoot)” Cruz. Then, if all goes well, a title shot.

“But this is not my whole life,” Monson says of fighting. “I’ve got children and a girlfriend, and I like to be with my family. I try to remain involved in political events. After my next fight, I’ll be taking my son to Montreal. They’re having an Anarchist Book Fair, and they invited me to come up and do a workshop.” The topic: self-defense.

The Practice of Dynamic Sleep

A fundamental goal of Taoist dream practices is the ability to enter dream state deliberately, as an act of will, fully conscious. Ordinarily as we begin to fall asleep and relax our senses disconnect one by one we become progressively unconscious, entering a twilight zone which rapidly eclipses into total darkness. From that moment on until we finally awaken several hours later we lose awareness of where we are or that we are asleep.

In Taoist dream practice one of the first things the practitioner does is make a firm decision to remain conscious as one enters dream state. This initial step is done by voicing a mental command of what one intends to practice or experience during that sleep session.

The sleep command is a powerful expression of willpower which is usually voiced over and over as the practitioner prepares to sleep. This repetition of the sleep command, like all energy practices is to be done with complete awareness and mindfulness, rather than mechanically or unconscious. As one begins to enter the twilight state of drowsiness the sleep command begins to function like a beacon guiding the consciousness across the threshold of the unconscious.

Breathing in, we allow ourselves to feel the inevitable suffering that occurs in this life. Our heart's natural response to this suffering, while breathing out, is compassion. We breathe in the pain and suffering of this world like a dark cloud, letting it pass through our hearts. Rather than bracing ourselves against this pain and suffering, we can let it strengthen our sense of belonging and interdependence within the larger web of being. Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig) is the Bodhisattva of Universal Compassion. His name means "One Who Hears the Cries of the World." Long ago he vowed not to return to nirvana until all living beings had been liberated from suffering. Avalokiteshvara listens to and feels the pain and suffering of the world. He breathes in, receiving the cries and anguish of the world and responds with the greatest care and compassion. In Buddhism, the traditional vow made by the Bodhisattva is to alleviate the suffering of all sentient beings.

The path of the Bodhisattva is to remember our belonging and connection with all of life. When we know in our hearts that we are connected to the insects, animals, trees, the earth, and every living being, we do not cause harm or suffering to any of these parts of ourselves. Rather, we become sensitive and attuned to the cries of the world, and we learn to respond with wisdom and deep compassion. We develop the wish to free all beings from their suffering and its causes; we desire, more than anything, to bring them happiness and peace. Indeed, the practice of Tonglen is an excellent way for us to train our heart and mind so we too can develop universal compassion and help alleviate the suffering of all living beings.

"Nothing" begins to take on a face—the smooth, featureless egg- or gourd-visage of Mr. Hun-Tun, chaos-as-becoming, chaos-as-excess, the generous outpouring of nothing into something.

The Evolutionary Tendency of Kindness

The word kindness derives from "kind," which derives from "kin," meaning those with whom we are related. To show kindness toward others is to treat them like one's own relatives. One shows kindness to others by allowing them greater latitude in their behavior, by making greater efforts to understand them and assist them. Humans evolved the care of infants and ancients, and extended assistance to the physically sick and "feeble minded," discovering along the way that infants are a delight to care for, that the aged have wisdom to share, that sick people like Steven Hawking are sometimes terribly clever, and that feeble minded people like Edison and Einstein are sometimes not as crazy as they seem.

These humanizing tendencies to care for those who may not be the best hunters, the most able childbearers, or the shrewdest manipulators, nevertheless turn out to be evolutionary tendencies, because in the aggregate, they can improve our species' chance of survival by expanding the scope of our knowledge. Advocates of a "lean and mean" society sometimes deride what they call "altruistic" behavior that reduces competitiveness. But these are usually groundless criticisms, as altruism is always practiced toward those who possess skills we want to acquire. Because the human community thrives when all of its members are well cared-for, and because the skills that sustain a society are so widely distributed among individual persons, all people benefit from an attitude of universal kindness toward all people.

Thick Brained?

Meditation alters brain patterns in ways that are likely permanent, scientists have known. But a new study shows key parts of the brain actually get thicker through the practice.

Brain imaging of regular working folks who meditate regularly revealed increased thickness in cortical regions related to sensory, auditory and visual perception, as well as internal perception -- the automatic monitoring of heart rate or breathing, for example.

The study also indicates that regular meditation may slow age-related thinning of the frontal cortex.

"What is most fascinating to me is the suggestion that meditation practice can change anyone's gray matter," said study team member Jeremy Gray, an assistant professor of psychology at Yale. "The study participants were people with jobs and families. They just meditated on average 40 minutes each day, you don't have to be a monk."

The research was led by Sara Lazar, assistant in psychology at Massachusetts General Hospital. It is detailed in the November issue of the journal NeuroReport.

The study involved a small number of people, just 20. All had extensive training in Buddhist Insight meditation. But the researchers say the results are significant.

Most of the brain regions identified to be changed through meditation were found in the right hemisphere, which is essential for sustaining attention. And attention is the focus of the meditation.

Other forms of yoga and meditation likely have a similar impact on brain structure, the researchers speculate, but each tradition probably has a slightly different pattern of cortical thickening based on the specific mental exercises involved.

Austin Osman Spare is mostly remembered for his extraordinary artwork and techniques of 'sigilisation', embraced in particular by Chaos Magick. One of the more ambiguous of Spare's contributions to what we can conveniently call 'magick' is his "Alphabet of Desire". Compared to the development of sigilisation, this area of Spare's work has been relatively unexplored since his death. Spare's original system involved 22 glyphs which he identified as 22 corresponding "aspects of sexuality". Spare's writings on the subject are, however, by no means exhaustive and we are left only a fraction of the actual glyphs he used and a few clues as to their use.

Peter Carroll applies Spare's concepts and aspects of his technique in "Liber Null & Psychonaut" (published by Weiser), reinterpre . it as he sees fit. Carroll develops a system of what he calls "complementary dualisms" whereby certain emotional states are polarised into strict opposites. Examples include rapture/anger; attachment/loathing; joy/terror and, of course, pain/pleasure. Personally, I find such dichotomisation of abstract 'states' more of a hindrance than help in creating a 'language of experience' or whatever you may like to call it. Although the interaction of such 'states' (this term immediately deceptive as emotions are more like processes than states) is granted, emphasis is placed on the mutuality of two states at the cost of being extricated from the whole realm of human experience. For me, this is an overemphasis. Yet, the principle remains valid, if approached in the right way. But what is the right way? For me that involves identifying the complexity of relationships between emotional, psychological, physical and other processes through personal languages. Perhaps what to me is an artificial map of experience (such as Carroll's system) works perfectly for someone else. But I have difficulty seeing how isolating emotions etc into 'biunivocal'(*) units could do anything but fragment and confuse the 'user'.

[*Biunivocal being the best term I know to describe the process of two 'things' being polarised along a single line or sliding scale/spectrum, thus having reduced what was potentially many 'voices' or possibilities down to two. These two ultimately are reduced to one, having effectively only the one 'voice', being an isolated 'unit'.]

Another commentator on the subject of Spare's "Alphabet of Desire" is Frater U.D. (author of "Practical Sigil Magic" & "Secrets of the German Sex Magicians", both books to be recommended). In "Practical Sigil Magic", Frater U.D. also uses the same basic framework or ideology invested by Peter Carroll in the system. He calls it dualism. Fortunately, he emphasises the personal nature of the languages to be developed, rather than the segmentation of experience one applies to the technique.

One of the beauties of the 'Alphabet of Desire' system is the ability to create words or glyphs or representations for things inexplicable by one's known languages- in my case 99% English. So how do I create my own personal "Alphabet of Desire"? My Alphabet, or Language as I prefer it, is simply an index book with a record of every glyph I have created to express a word, image, idea, emotion, experience or whatever. Most of these glyphs were created in the context of preparing sigils, but not all of them. Some are merely glyphs created at a time my available languages and mediums of expression were inappropriate or incapable of representing what it was I wanted to express. Over time this catalogue or dictionary grows and begins to gather a code, grammer and syntax of its own, no longer held up by the crutch of the languages I could not help implanting within the glyphs (spoken, visual etc). It also creates a web, as does any language, linking the terms in an interdependant fabric of meaning. In this case, personalised meaning.

As for the use of the alphabet, sigils are the most obvious application. The use of an alphabet for sigils helps integrate disparate and sometimes contradictory desires. These need only be sigilised or merely expressed in one's own 'language of desire' to become effective. It is an interesting process to observe at the very least. The alphabet also weaves loosely a link between graphic and written language, like personal hieroglyphs. It is also interesting to look over your 'dictionary of sigils' to see which ones are being used more or less than others. What is not present? Like a diary, the record of one's own 'Language of Desire' can reveal many things one wasn't aware of at the time of construction. So the technique can be used for self-observation, self-analysis, self-(re)construction, self-expression, and a host of other applications. It is a product of imagination for use by the imagination.

animals

Seeing how taoism evolved out of the old shamanism, what do you suppose one could traditionaly be invoking while doing the various Tai Chi Chuans of the different families as well as the other animal forms and qigong forms/exercises.

From doing the classical yang for a while I get the feeling I am invoking elements rather than any animals..... and perhaps the entire universe and maybe beyond, which is hard to try and grasp.

Does anyone do anything that seems to have something that wants in when you do it? any animal forms?

I had a small revelation while reading about my double/energy body and how it can be in different shapes... all of a sudden I got the notion to invoke the bear and have that shape till I start feeling more myself...... if people sense bear they leave you alone..... and bears seem pretty kick back.....

Just some recent ruminations.

III:I INITIATING COMBAT

War torn Horizon-

The blood leaves a crimson trail

from the battlefield.

In matters where it is determined conflict is unavoidable, an Adept should always strike first, taking care to strike hard enough to eliminate the possibility of retribution. An Adept, therefore, must maintain an ever-present vigilance: seeking, scanning and eliminating the potential for conflict. Further, an Adept must never allow hirself to be placed in a position of defense if at all avoidable. Should a position of defense become necessary, an Adept is advised to counter-attack immediately. That way, if s/he should die in the exchange, s/he will do so without remorse.

It is often said; "Attack with Enchantment – Defend with Evocation". This guideline serves to protect an Adept who is unskilled in the art of war. However, so long as the evoked has an appropriate source of food, any threat to an Adept is nullified. There are no absolutes.

A Frater attacked a target’s drug addiction with entropy – this took two years to manifest fully waiting for the right combination of: right dose, drug, time and opportunity. The attack was as relentless as the Frater was in his pursuit.

III:II TENACIOUSNESS

Africanized bees:

when attacking, many die

but die intensely.

A knowledgeable Frater once said; "If a sigil is disrupted, an Adept should attack with his Wand. That being broken, he should attack with open hand. His hands crippled, he should attack with his eyes. Even in death, the Adept is a powerful foe."

III:III OUTNUMBERED OR POOR CHANCES OF SUCCESS

Thirty foes waiting-

outmatched, cold and all alone

a wise Adept chants.

It is a common occurrence for an Adept to face overwhelming odds. Whether the probability of success has dwindled, or the skill of an Adept is below the task s/he faces, an Adept stands with the same resolve. It is never strategically correct to retreat, unless retreating to a better vantage point from which to attack. Once conflict begins, it must continue until it is resolved. This is our way.

Because of this, an Adept is able to relentlessly pursue victory without the distraction of self-preservation.

III:IV RETRIBUTORY STRIKE

Bleeding and wounded

the Adept slows down hir breath

stalking death to kill.

One of the greatest disgraces an Adept can face is being forced to act defensively. Although sometimes necessary, this demonstrates the inability on the part of the Adapt to successfully prepare for and/or avoid conflict. This bring said, it then becomes the duty of the Adept to not only repel the attack, but counter attack with lethal force. This counter-attack should be relentless and unyielding until the attacker is completely nullified with no threat of continued pursuit. Acting in such a manner will shield the Adept from future remorse. Remember, the Adept was unprepared once. It is tragic to be forced to end ones mortal existence because one disregarded training and was left unprepared for conflict.

In an effort to explain the severity of this philosophy, it must be understood that if enough strength remains in the Adept to either launch a retribution or launch a reincarnative rite, the former should be employed, relying on ones fellows to perform the Unction.

III:V PASSIVE STRIKE

The snake eats its tail

so none can tell where snake starts

and where the snake ends.

Once, when a certain Frater was asked how a certain person should be dealt with, he replied; "Perform a healing right away on his intense head pain." When informed the individual did not suffer from head pain and questioned upon a healing response to combat, he replied; "The Multiverse has a way of setting things right. To heal head pain, head pain must exist. The Multiverse cares little which existed first." The student had forgotten time was not linear.

III:VI NATURAL SELECTION

Pack surrounds new Wolf

Alpha Male first approaches,

worthiness is proved.

Wolf packs follow certain internal power structures. The Alpha pair are the leaders, the first to attack and the first to eat. The Beta pair are 2nd in command, replacing the Alphas should they perish. The Omega wolf is the weakest but most useful in the pack, for the other wolves harass it relentlessly. This allows them a focus for their aggression creating harmony among the rest of the pack.

When the pack is confronted by a "lone wolf", the Alpha Male tests his worthiness by attacking the new wolf. The battle ensues until either the new wolf is dead, or the Alpha Male is satisfied of the strength of the potential pack member. In this way, only the strong wolves – able to carry their own weight – are admitted to the pack.

The pack always hunts together and defends together, demonstrating perfect unity – and in this way, they may prosper.

One may easily see the wisdom of the wolf.

III:x.1 MAGICKAL DEPENDENCY

The leaf moves fast on the stream alone.

Faster still with the wind blowing down.

There is an ancient axiom that states: "Cast as if everything depends on Magic, then work as if everything depends on you!" This statement can be misleading if one does not recognize that by performing on both levels one is strengthening the force of the link, and therefore the effectiveness of the Magic involved.

Of course, as in all things there are times when performing in this manner would be ill-dignified. For example, in cases of Magical attack one would not necessarily desire to act visibly unless acting visibly was an intentional part of the attack. Further, the Adept must ensure acting on both planes does not promote obsession or attachment.

III:x.2 ON STALKING

Fox crouches down low

and passes by many wolves

to get to the sheep.

Stalking is the first art of the Adept. It is a practical art that allows one to become what is needed at any time. Don Juan described this art in this manner: "What is the art of stalking ? A hunter just hunts, a stalker stalks anything, including himself. An impeccable stalker can turn anything into prey. We can even stalk our own weaknesses. You do it in the same way you stalk prey. You figure out your routines until you know all the doing of your weaknesses and then you come upon them and pick them up like rabbits inside a cage." To stalk, one must behave in their role impeccably. It is not an art of acting, rather an art of becoming.

Silence ones mind, then silence ones self until the small voice of what one is to become can be heard whispering. An Adept is prepared when the small voice is screaming, and the voice of self is but a whisper in the breeze.

III:x.3 INDESCRETION

The officer stares

waiting for the slightest sign

to feed suspicions.

Once at a gathering of people, a Frater spoke on topics both secret and fearful to the uninitiated in his presence. It was decided a bolt would be thrown upon him but his sentence was suspended because of certain oaths. So he was cast out of the Temple, thus removing the threat of exposure.

To many, indiscretion is a lethal offense. To disrupt any stalk by an Adept merits repercussion.

III:x.4 OBSESSION

Collections are necessary

until one becomes

the collected.

A mystic once had a student who was the only survivor in a lion attack that left him an orphan. Seeking answers he already knew, he approached the mystic:

"Master, why do lions eat people?"

"To answer that question, you would have to ask a lion!"

"But Master, do you not possess the power of transmogrification?"

"I do."

"Then Master, why to you not become a lion for awhile until you understand why they eat people?"

"Ah – but I might ENJOY being a lion."

III:x.5 OBSERVATION

All time is now.

All space is here.

Nothing unreal exists.

A Soror having a child of five once remarked on the clear, unobstructed manner in which the child interacted with her world. Because children slowly evolve into the "mannerisms & rules" of others, they gradually lose touch with the NOW or non-linear perception of time & space. They prove this is a learned, unnatural behavior. Children can be a lesson because they do not associate cause and effect as the sleepers. A Magician would be well advised to study their viewpoint and utilize it to break free of self-imposed restriction.

III:x.6 RULES

Who is the Buddha that makes the grass green?

The Osprey, having found his acolyte too willing to accept the restrictions placed on his study, related the following discourse:

Osprey: "Why do you not retaliate against one who has harmed you?"

Acolyte: "Because, Master, of the ‘Law of Three’. Anything I put out into the Universe will return to me three-fold!"

Osprey: "That is a rule. I now condemn you to be bound by that rule for all your existence!"

Acolyte: "Master – why do you curse me so?"

Osprey: "You do not understand. The grass is green to you because you were told it was green and you accept it. You will be ruled by Karma because you accept it. You are restricted because you accept your restriction. Why do you not fly?"

Acolyte: "Master, I am neither a bird nor an insect!"

Osprey: "Another rule! You are both bird and insect. You do not fly because you follow a rule that says you cannot. Unquestioning adherence to rules is a sign of weakness."

With that, the Osprey launched the Sigil of Saturn against the Acolyte’s foe.

Proving Grounds

We grow under the auspice of laws that have been enjoined with the progression of our minds to more fully relate to our place in the universe.

A fair amount of science in needed in the garden - an understanding pH values, chemical reactive fertilizers, meteorology, and general physics. We use empirical methods to ascertain weather outcomes – such as looking up and seeing “horse’s manes” high in the sky and knowing that a change is coming, but not knowing the extent or direction of that change.

We build on where we start, and start with what we know, and what we know was taught, either by others, or ourselves. Science in agriculture has given us cloning, hydroponics, and genetic engineering. When we adopt a plant, we adopt the science behind it. When we buy a Poinsettia for Christmas, most fail to realize it is probably descended from a cutting (a clone) from a plant discovered in Mexico in 1828. From 1923 until the early 1960s, all of the principal cultivars of commercial importance were clones from an original “Oak Leaf” seedling.

Hydroponics, using liquid nutrients, demonstrates that our soil is simply a holding agent.

Genetic engineering allows insights into the hard-wired nucleus containing the genetic keys for change and adaptation to numerous environmental conditions, but just as the with the horse’s manes, what the change will bring is dependent upon unknown forces.

Then there is the age old question of “nature or nurture?” Our gardens give us a good answer: no matter how vibrant the seed may be initially, if it is not nurtured it will only be able to fulfill a small portion of its locked-in destiny potential.

The name protein means “primary element” (Proteios, Gr.) Proteins are the primary components of all plant and animal cells. Each protein has its own unique sculpture, referred to as its “conformation”, providing the organism its structure and formation.

Until recently, science has proceeded down a path apparent, one that Watson and Crick began, and has since developed into the “Primacy of DNA”. This primacy concludes that DNA controls and determines the character of an organism.

However, recent studies show that genes are regulated by “environmental signals”. Cells can read the environment and their protein receptors respond to vibrational frequencies through a process known as “electroconformation coupling”. These receptors convert awareness of the environment into “physical sensations” providing perceptions of reality. But, because we are often consciously unaware of what happens around us, or we misinterpret it, it becomes necessary that our beliefs should control our perspectives.

These environmental vibrations are received and translated through cell membranes, the only organelle common to every living organism. These membranes are able to perform this function because, based upon the organization of its phospholipids molecules, the membrane is a crystal, and information crosses the hydropholaic barrier rendering the membrane a semiconductor, endowing it with proteins that function as gates (receptors) and channels. As a liquid crystal semiconductor with gates and channels, this membrane is an information processing transistor, or an organic computer chip. Science, once establishing its “facts”, continues to support only its own perspectives - even in the face of experiments that show plants can benefit from electricity, electromagnetism, music, or good thoughts.

Until Rachel Carlson showed the interconnectedness of our environmental actions, DDT was used and over used as a matter of routine. The shift towards the idea of a more organic, earth-friendly environmental growing of our foods has been slow, and for many, seen as in impossible goal to achieve.

Such thoughts and expressed views are the vibrations that most people’s organelles are subject to, and hence the result of a perspective of limitation and mis-direction. It is then imperative that our beliefs become the designing force toward our garden within as well as the garden outside.

Just as we look to the next season for newness, so must we look to new thinking and new ideas, discarding the scaffolding that has brought us this far, but has now become an obstacle for new growth.

Our next steps will be of experimentation and trial, new thinking and discovering for ourselves and others, a better direction in which we can grow.

The curious thing about a spectacle is how it immobilizes the spectators: just like the image, it centers their attention, their values, and ultimately their lives around something outside of themselves. It keeps them occupied without making them active, it keeps them feeling involved without giving them control. You can probably think of a thousand different examples of this: television programs, action movies, magazines that give updates on the lives of celebrities and superstars, spectator sports, representative "democracy," the Catholic church.
