The Site for Alchemy 08

Can someone describe the site to me? I've never been, so I don't really know what to expect. Site-specific tips are more than welcome!

There are some photos of the site in the tribe under photos.

There is a large field and some smaller fields with some trees. The effigy is at the top of the main hill. There is a small pond. There were some ants last year where i camped so you may want to bring some ant killer and don't keep food out. There are showers that are hot sometimes. There is camping near tree lines for shade as well.

That's a pretty brief description. Anything else you want to know?

Does Ant killer conform to LNT?

Ju, I believe you said something about using cinnamon to deter ants from entering your camp. Since this has become an ant thread, can you confirm this?

Yep, I did some research on natural substances to keep ants out of your tent / tables, etc -- and many recommended ground cinnamon.

I would still recommend letting a volunteer or organizer know and having them contact the land crew as that is what they requested.

I have tried cinnamon many times without much luck. I use Borax, or Boric acid (Borax). It's relatively benign and works great...Not sure if Smokey (the land owner) would mind, but I doubt it.
I've been to this land many times for the Primitive Skills Gathering (we will have an earthskills theme camp at alchemy this year) as our event begins the Monday after Alchemy. The pond is good to swim in but often kind of muddy if there are heavy rains.
Come on by if you'd like to learn to make fire by friction! Maybe the effigy lighters could learn to do it and light it up without the use of a BIC!

                Hey Hun,

If cinnamon doesn't work for you... Very, very strange. I purchase it in bulk and buy it at the same store.

Anyways, *in my best transplanted South Georgia accent*... Down here in the South, we's got dem big ol' fire ants as well as the generic black ants, and the best fixin's is plain ol' cheap, and dry 'Grits'!

You see ants are high in water, so they smell food, attack, then kinda implode.

                Siryn
