2007 Festival Survival Guide
VISION
The A.U.M Festival will establish a safe gathering space that facilitates the exploration of consciousness and connectedness
through inspired, underground psychedelic trance music and culture. It will encourage the growth of the North American
psy-community; emphasize our ability to heal ourselves and each other; embrace an open, multi-generational perspective;
and promote an earth conscious, leave no trace ethic.
The A.U.M Festival is a conscious co-creation and experiment in radical community and psychedelic art. This festival would
not exist without YOU! This survival guide contains important information that is vital to making A.U.M a positive experience
for everyone. Please read it carefully. The A.U.M Festival can be anything we want it to be, let’s make it beautiful!
“THE BIGGER PICTURE”
The dates for AUM Festival were carefully selected to enhance the manifestation of this communal vision.
Day Out of Time
From www.13moon.com: “On the 13 Moon calendar, this day is no day of the month, and no day of the week. Around the
planet, this day is reserved for festival and community. Central focuses are: Stop business as usual and attest to the truth
that “Time is Art!” Planetary Peace through Culture, forgiveness, atonement, freeing of debts, purification, the Art of Peace,
the freedom of being alive. This is an opportunity to experience true timelessness and loving kindness. Whether public
gatherings or private circles, this day is a catalytic launch-pad for the year to come”
Full Moon in Aquarius
“the moon in aquarius teaches us to value our community: we learn from our circle, rather than intimate relations, politics
and group dynamics become part of our sacred path. now is the time to search for new allies and ponder practical applications
of the metaphysical. the path of the soul born under aquarius moon is to tend to the web of community. she needs
to respect true emotions, hers as well as others, but helps us see our interconnectedness and explore theory behind our
experience.” – From Wemoon Calendar
CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE!
Radical Participation
You are invited to be a full participant in the A.U.M Experience! Think about how YOU can enhance the festival vibe. Individual
art projects are encouraged! If you have a large-scale art project or if you will need on-site resources, please be sure
to contact us ahead of time. Costumes and other modes of self-expression contribute to the festive and liberating atmosphere
we will create. Even making eye contact with other participants is a small gesture that goes a long way. Explore your
own personal boundaries; attempt to break out of your comfort zone. Please recognize that everyone’s level and type of
participation is different!
Leadership / DIY
Although this festival is largely a community creation, there are members of the community who have assumed positions
of leadership in order to ensure the safety and well being of all participants. Please acknowledge the challenges that come
along with leadership roles and show them your respect and support. Additionally, there may be times when it is appropriate
for YOU to assume a leadership role. For example, if you notice a problem with the festival site, if there is a conflict
between campers, if you see trash on the ground – take a proactive role and find a solution for the problem. Be conscious
of your environment, if something needs to be done, don’t be afraid to take the initiative and Do It Yourself (DIY!!!).
Respect for Diversity
As a diverse gathering of the tribes it is important to understand that we all come from very different backgrounds. Please
be respectful of all of our differences. It is our differences that make us unique and beautiful shining beings. I mean, imagine a
world were everything was only one flavor... say, banana... after a while, you’d really want to eat some Indian food... Diversity
inspires growth and learning. Violence in any form will not be tolerated!
The “Info” Booth
The “Info” Booth will be a centrally located area where you can find the answers to all of your questions, yes, all of them!
Information will be posted regarding the lineup for the day and the workshop/lecture/healing arts schedule. This is also the
ideal place to meet up with other AUM participants and plan day trips and other adventurous excursions. There will be a
community message board available for you to send love notes to all your crushes, as well as network with other campers.
The Psychedelic Trance Floor
The trance-floor music will begin on Thursday and continue until Monday evening. Sunday night is the full moon and the peak
of the week’s intensity, so make your travel plans accordingly, you won’t want to miss the last night and day. The complete
timetable will NOT be posted in advance; the lineup for the day/night will be posted at the info booth and by the stage
each day.
The Chill Out Zone
The music on the Chill Stage will begin on Wednesday evening and go continuously until Monday morning. The chill zone will
provide constant aural guidance throughout the festival, offering dubby goodness to celebrate the sun and providing an
introspective space at night for those who feel the need for deeper contemplation. We encourage you to lie down and be
counted!
Workshops/Lectures/Healing Arts
There will be a large dome for workshops and lectures. Smaller areas with more privacy will be set up around the workshop
dome for people to share healing arts such as massage and energy work.
The A.U.M. Workshops area has flowed together to create a space based on Aquarian ideals of decentralized community
coming together in tribal gathering while maintaining traditional aspects. This has manifested in a series of symposiums that
gather many of the psychedelic trance communities brightest stars in a panel format to share knowledge they have about
subjects such as music, art, and organizing events.
Ever wanted to learn from long time veterans about how to create these things? This will be the opportunity to come together
and share in the greater community to learn and bring back to your community back home -wherever that may be. In
addition to this, there will be smaller circles on such subjects as spiritual paths, gender relations, even a “free school” where
you are invited to share some of your own knowledge in 10-minute segments flowing from person to person! Please visit
www.aumfestival.net for more info on the workshops.
