OPEN BUCKSTOPPER POSITIONS

Since its inception, MMOS has always remained a fairly small collective of artists, educators, and activists who have been responsible for the bulk of the Procession and other events promoting Festal Culture. As the All Souls Procession Weekend grows and meets more of the public’s needs, it also requires more community members to come forth and help with the organization and execution of each event/activity. These “Buckstoppers” are the persons ultimately responsible for the success or failure of their areas of responsibility, and without them, ASP Weekend simply could not happen. The Buckstoppers are an integral part of MMOS and the community it fosters.

Each of these positions is volunteer-only, but it is a goal of MMOS to eventually pay Buckstoppers for their efforts. For now, Buckstoppers will receive an ASP T-shirt, an artist-signed ASP poster, a pass to three (3) ASP fund raising events, and listing on the ASP website as the Buckstopper of their activity.

Every Buckstopper is accountable to the ASP Event Administrator. Buckstoppers are chosen for their specific skill sets, networks, and ability to be responsible. Every Buckstopper begins by developing their own Crews to assist them in creating their events. We have a whole community available to assist the Buckstopper with ideas and resources, so don't hesitate to ask MMOS for help networking you to others. Come and join the ASP family!

For details on the Buckstopper Positions, visit our website at www.allsoulsprocession.org.
Those who are interested in becoming Buckstoppers must e-mail our ASP Event Administrator at: info@allsoulsprocession.org

BECOME AN MMOS SUPPORTER!

Every year MMOS must fund raise to cover expenses for our major events and projects - most of which are FREE for the public to enjoy. These expenses include FREE community workshops, art materials, barricading, permits, flyers, promotion, upgrades, goods, and gear- and we are always in need of YOUR support!

Many Mouths One Stomach was created as a mechanism for creating and promoting modern Festal Culture. Festal culture responds to core human needs for deep meaning, connection, celebration, rites of passage, and personal expression. Our events, like the All Souls Procession, establish a legacy that reclaims public space through art and blurs the line between participant and observer; ritual and performance.

Now more than ever people are starving for intentionally-driven art that has the power to engage, transform, and heal. Ironically, the arts are also among the most under funded sectors of our society. But, you can be a trend-setter by donating to MMOS. Your support ensures our organization's future, and your donation will be well rewarded!

As an MMOS SUPPORTER, you become a primary stakeholder in our mission to perpetuate modern Festal Culture. There is no other group seeking cultural transformation at such a core, archetypal level in the Southwest, and your donations will further help MMOS serve the individuals, families, and the community in the most effective ways possible. Please support us to the extent you can. Also, you get a number of pretty cool THANK YOU GIFTS (see below), and become a recipient of our quarterly newsletter. Here, you'll get the latest info regarding MMOS and its projects, events, info on how you can participate, fundraising activities, and additional opportunities for MMOS SUPPORTERS Only.

Many Mouths One Stomach is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and can accept tax-deductible donations from individuals, families, businesses, and organizations. Donations can be made via Paypal at our website (www.allsoulsprocession.org) or you can send a check to:

Call for Submissions : Dia de los Muertos: Honoring the Dead Across Cultures

Call for Submissions : Dia de los Muertos: Honoring the Dead Across Cultures

Rituals to memorialize and honor the dead exist among cultures throughout the world.
One such ritual, Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, traces its history to the indigenous peoples of Mesoamerica. Dia de los Muertos is a national holiday in Mexico and is observed in numerous countries in the Caribbean, Central and South America as well as the United States, parts of Europe, and the Philippines. Similarly-themed celebrations to venerate the dead including Japan’s Bon festival, Korea’s Chuseok, China’s Qingming and a variety of ceremonies in Africa pay tribute to departed ancestors, albeit at different times of the year.

In keeping with this multicultural celebration, El Pueblo Historical Monument will present in the Pico House Gallery from October 18 to November 19, 2007, Dia de los Muertos: Honoring the Dead Across Cultures. Artists are asked to submit for consideration two and three-dimensional work (including ofrendas/altars) that explores Dia de los Muertos and other rituals from around the world honoring the departed.

Submissions should be sent to Mariann Gatto, Curator, El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, 125 Paseo de la Plaza, Suite 400, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Submissions will be accepted in the following formats:
• CD containing digital images, i.e. jpeg format
• Photographic prints
• Slides

Absolutely no email (electronic) submissions will be accepted. Do not mail or drop off originals for consideration. All submissions must be received by August 15, 2007. A maximum of four (4) submissions from each artist will be considered. All submissions must be original work done by the artist. The following information must accompany the submission: artist’s first and last name, telephone number, email address and website (if available), title of work, year executed, media, dimensions and price (if for sale). For more information, please call 213.485.8432 or email mariann.gatto@lacity.org.

OK—this is has been weighing on my mind for sometime and I just have to share……I LOVED the All Souls! I thought it was a really cool experience and had a great time. There were many people there who, due to the crowds, I didn’t get to see. A few days after the procession I saw a very good and dear friend of mine who walked in the procession and he had a different experience. He is a REAL Catholic Bishop in the Liberal Catholic Church. He walked in the procession to honor the beloved who have passed. He received taunts, insults, and negative comments, because of his religion! Although I am not Christian I am shocked and amazed that a community I feel alliance with could so miss treat a friend. This is a man who honors others opinions and paths to the holily. Where have we gone wrong?!

What a fabulous event!
NATIUM World Dance was honored to be part of it and THANK YOU so much for having us perform up on the docks. We LOVED being next to Elemental Artistry b/c their music was so ethereal and perfect for our installation sets!
The procession was again electric with energy and my heart was so warm n fuzzy as I sent "messages" to my departed loved ones.
The after show was again goosebumpling, hair raising, jaw dropping wonderment!
Last year was the first time for many of us, jamming down from Phoenix to watch and support our fire girls on the bridge, but we had no idea we'd be totally enamored with the entire event, the way we were.
So this year, we loaded up nearly the whole troupe to come down for the event, and those who had never been were elated.
We are all totally hooked and cross our fingers for next year, to have another spot to share with everyone!
Thank you to everyone who worked so so so hard to put this together every year. It means so much to so many.

I have been getting lots of calls and e-mails about the event tonight. We would love to see as many of you as possible for this first ever event. There are going to be four dance performances on the main stage (Bare Bones Burlesque (Kyra nd Sophie's fun new piece), Midriff Crisis featuring Trigger Happy (with a brand new set honoring those who have passed before us), Hadia Sahara, and Black Cherry Burlesque will close the night), there are also several bands and stilt performers etc.
This is a fundraiser for the All Souls Procession, in order to continue this long Tucson tradition we MUST raise money and we still need lots of it. The organizers are stiving to keep the Procession free of corporate sponsorship and influence and we desperatly need you help.
Please come and we hope you will wear a costume, any sort will do of course there will be lots of skulls and Day of the Dead influence. But we will love you no matter what you wear!!

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who came out to watch the shows and perform last night. We are so very lucky to have such awesome talent and creativity concentrated in this area. I had a blast performing with Midriff (couldn't keep that silly grin off my face) and absolutely loved seeing everyone else out there.

We are also HELLA lucky to have such an amazing event (ASP) that takes place here every year. Thanks to those who bust their butts to make it happen. I encourage anyone who can to help by volunteering for any of the events for next weekend!!!

MAUSOLEUM
In 2005, Matt Cotten created the Ancestor Mausoleum, a multi-panel
display of ancestral portraits drawn by his students. The drawings
were lit from behind, illuminating each of the portraits for
passersby to view along the Procession route. This year, the
construction of the Mausoleum will be documented and integrated into
the Video Ancestry Project.

CALL FOR SPONSORSHIP
As an element to the Ancestor Mausoleum installation, Matt Cotten
will be soliciting commisions from the general public to do large
(3ft. x 5ft.) portraits based off of photographs of deceased loved
ones.
Asking price: $200 - $300.

A certain percentage of this fee will go towards All Souls expenses.
The artwork will be included in each year's Mausoleum Project.
Sponsors would not aquire the final piece but would be supporting
the event, while creating a way to honor thier loved ones in an
annual ritual.

For more information, contact Matt Cotten via e-mail.
