In the most recent newsletter, Kathryn suggested that a restaurant dancer should have a chaperone with them.

I feel very strongly that this is not a necessity. If you're planning to take on restaurant work in a professional or semi-professional capacity you need to be able to manage your own costumes, music and travel arrangements. I understand that people have concerns about personal safety, but I've never felt at risk within a restaurant. The journey to and from your car can be more unsettling, and you can always ask a member of staff to see you to your vehicle.

The bottom line is - you're getting paid to go to work - in what other profession would you expect an unpaid chaperone to accompany you? And how many of us can persuade someone to accompany us?

I'm interested in hearing what other people think abut this...

this seems like the right site to ask...

what advice do people have about restaurant dancing? just got my first solo job, start next Friday in quite large place where they would like Isis wings and veilwork (yikes!) have got regular gig already but much smaller one where you mostly have to work on the spot and try not to drop sequins in the couscous! and I share it with a friend so less pressure, usually I improvise alot... should I try to choreograph more of a show for this one?

would love to hear other peoples experiences
