Team leads up for grabs...?

I think that clearly Pete has first shot at Web Team lead, with Christina as his able second, and it seems Loki is in for that team as well.

But we'll need other things...medical, fire, security, safety, happy people relations, promotions...oh so many more...

Pick yourself a problem to deal with! We've got plenty!! :)

Hey y'all!

Our heroic Christina is giving of her time this week to turn the altburnative website from a dream into a reality.

What she needs from you is GRAPHICS. Art, photos, that sort of thing, to make the site more than just a blank page with some boring text.

Send it bitches!!

Busy Pete

Hi Everyone. I am crazy busy these days, and I'll donate a few hours every so often, but right now my life is nuts. I have work, school, buying (and repairing) a house, a girlfriend, teaching poi workshops, organizing the Alchemy conclave, trying to be an active member of the burner community.

I want to see this succeed, but I'm not sure how much I have left to put into it. I'll try to help the website get going, and I'll try to find out more about how to protect the organizers from liabilities, but I'm not going to have much time left for digging. I had a pretty busy weekend, and I had to take Monday off to give my brain a break, so life is interfering with what I have to do. I wish I had all the time in the world to dedicate, but I'm reaching my limits and need to consider my own health.

I'll be in touch, and I'll help when I can, but I'm not going to be as active as I'd like to be or as this event may need me to be. My apologies! I'll make extra effort to be available for the things I can do but no one else can (like some of the programming and possibly database stuff).

Lions, tigers, and bears, oh no!

I am looking into setting up an LLC so we can keep taxes and things legal. If any one has any advice from knowledge or experience or knows who to talk to, please let me know!

Does any one have a problem with establishing an LLC? Burning Man, Transformus, Alchemy, and Flipside are LLCs (Flipside is overseen by two LLCs, it is not itself one). Does any one know of a better way of handling this?

We also want to protect the people running the event from frivolous law suits. You know how sue-happy people are these days. I'd hate to see that come back on someone for trying to make this happen. I know insurance is part of that deal, but I think the proper legal structure is also necessary.

I am also working on writing the framework for a format that allows us to have a Board of Directors to be responsible for keeping the event legal while leaving as much of the power of decision making in the hands of the community. I've already started drawing this up, but I need some time to revise before posting anything.

Website Provisioning

I am in the process of getting DNS straightened out. I'm transferring domains to Dreamhost's registrar so website management is easy and all in one place. Unfortunately, Network Solutions won't reimburse me for the year I paid them...oh well. I'm never using them again...the person I talked to on the phone was a little less than helpful. It took me 20 minutes to get her to understand what I was even calling about (I don't think they're support is based in the US).

Until everything is transferred, www.altburnative.com and www.altburnative.net will show a Network Solutions page. When it's complete, it will look like www.altburnative.net, which currently has nothing on it. I'll put up an "Under Construction" page when I get home tonight.

Once that is done, I'll have to get the .com and .net redirecting to .org. This shouldn't be hard to do, and I'll see if Dreamhost is going to charge me for doing that. Sometimes, they make you have a DNS-only account.

Then, we can go to work on the website and create something good. Thanks for volunteering Christina! We can definitely use your help!

The pic you posted is a great start!

I think the pic at the bottom should definitely be something else, or simply removed...it looks repetitive because the same pic is used all over the place.

The left-links could be part of the page, not a separate frame, however, have a border or something to set the apart from the rest of the page. Nothing fancy or tacky, just so the eye can quickly pick up on the page structure. Most websites with left-hand menus do it this way. Is that what you had in mind? Whether we put the menu info at the top or the left, I don't think it should be a separate frame that stays on the screen while the page is scrolled.

I also think it would be a good idea to float the text over the background image so it stays centered on the screen. It's easy to do with CSS, we just have to decide how to place it so that it looks descent near the menu and if the menu is scrolled off the screen.

Transformus invites? What you need to do!

Reposted from transforma@lists.transformus.com

===

Greetings Mysterians!

As most of you are now aware, we have had some fairly widespread issues with our website, and specifically with our invite/ticket page. We need all your help to facilitate the repair of this system. We have the data of who was approved at this stage, and who is still pending. We also have PayPal receipts and data for those who have already paid for their invites. What we are needing is your contact information and other numbers to help us proceed.

If you have paid already you should have just gotten an email from us with your new gate codes. Any old gate codes you had are NO LONGER VALID.

If you have not paid OR were not accepted in the first round please go to http://www.transformus.com/invites/ and click on the link to register - filling out this form will give us the information we need to match you to your original request.

Please provide on this form:

* Your full name and snail mail address
* Your email address that the request was made from and to which you want e-invite codes returned to.
* the names for participants 1 and 2 (if applicable) as you entered them on the website request form, be it first name only, nickname, or playa name.

IMPORTANT DATES:
April 30th: Last day to send us your contact information if you have not paid or were not approved.
May 5th: Last day to pay for invites.
May 6th: Emails will be sent out for the second round of invites to those who applied on the former website.

Again, we have your names and some of this information, Your providing us with all this info will verify you are who you say, that you are on our list, and fill in any info we may be missing, especially contact info. If you never checked the website before it all went away, do not worry, it may just take a little longer to get in touch with you.

Thanks for all of your assistance!!
Transformus BOD
