There's something I like about the poetic irony that we would return to primordial ooze to power our 21st Century tech. This plan of Dow's (not everyone's favorite for sundry reasons, I'm sure) as outlined by the NYT (ditto) seems to tighten the carbon cycle in an interesting self-fulfilling loop that may contain some promise. As long as they're not salinating fresh water in order to provide the salt water needed for the operation. Could provide some interesting new economic and technical energy solutions along our vast coastal areas.
