Anyone seen "CSA: The Confederate States of America"?

A couple of days ago as I was getting ready for work, I saw parts of this movie on the Independent Film Channel. Since I was doing my morning routine, I wasn't able to give it my full attention, but from what I did see it looked like a fairly well-done alternate history "mockumentary," with both narrative and commercials and bits of propaganda films. The clips of a cable shopping network selling slaves were chilling though.

Did anyone else here see it? What did you think?

Peace,
--Andy

American Dad time travel

One episode of American Dad has Stan going back in time and accidentally getting Martin Scorsese off of drugs. That leads to a complicated series of events that has the U.S. unconditionally surrender to the U.S.S.R. after Walter Mondale becomes president. Of course I'm dismayed at the politcal implications there. But at the same time, I will admit that it is one possibility. It's also possible that the Russian occupation of America would drain their military and economic resources to such an extent that it would cause the collapse of the Soviet Empire -- especially with all those Red Dawn-type resistance fighters running around. This, like with any and all events in history, is a matter of infinite possibilities.

More Whiners pages

I just uploaded more Whiners pages.
http://www.comicspace.com/timelike01/comics.php?action=gallery&comic_id=7333
For those who don't know (and that's most of you), Whiners is a web comic miniseries I creatred that deals with a small group of whiny cats and their human friend as they travel to other universes in search of a world where cat persecution doesn't exist. After all, cat persecution is one of the most prominent and obscene cliches in history. Whiners represents a more creative view of the cat bashing cliche in that it regards that mess as the mess that it is. Very rare in today's modern dystopia.

There's been tons of stories dealing with this. Here's a few to get started:

"The Timeliner Trilogy" by Richard Meredith
"The Big Time" by Fritz Leiber
"All of an Instant" by Richard Garfinkle
"Changing Planes" by Ursula K. Le Guin
"The Timeships" by Stephen Baxter

Talkin' 'bout regeneration!

The recent news of the regenerated bladder achievement has gotten me to think of something I briefly considered when the Terry Schaivo hoopla was going on: What if it were possible to regenerate Terry Schaivo's destroyed cerebral cortex? Of course it may be decades before regenrating cerebral matter can actually be done, but if it were possible now, Terry Schaivo might actually have been cured of her disability. At the same time, we have to remember that her previous knowledge and memories won't likely be retained within her new cerebral cortex. Thus, she'd have to gain new knowledge and memories. But then the question of the moment is would Terry Schaivo's new knowlwdge and memeories mean that she'd be a different person? Perhaps so. But since there'd be no way to get the old Terry Schaivo back, we might as well take what we can get.

Mass media learned a decade ago that this brainy fare has an audience:

"Sliders" 1995 - 1998 on FOX
"Fatherland" on HBO, 1994 (much better than the book in my opinion)
"Groundhog Day", 1993
"A Sound of Thunder", 2005 (hasn't been released yet, hope it doesn't suck)

Can you name some more?
