I really don't want to turn you away from this because I approve very much of people making thier own energy. However, I know a small bit about this, and it is a very difficult thing. Firstly, power companies have a lot of money and pull, they don't wnat to lose either. Hence they make it very difficult for the "small farm power plant" by requiring special licenses. You CAN get them, it is difficult. Also they won't pay you for your power (at least not around here) they give you credit towards power you might get from them in the future. Secondly the set-up is a little difficult. My electrician friend said you need a special switch (expencive) that will allow your power source to feed your house when it needs it and the grid when you are not using electricity. That being said Obviously we need to be using alternative sources for our power and doing what you want to do is what we all should be doing. Also lots and lots of small power plants makes a much more efficient system than a big power plant as a supplier. We lose huge amounts of power off the lines into the air because power doesn't travel long distances very well.
