Does the current loving for all things gay....Elton (shit records and dressing as Marie Antoinette), Scissors (Jake looks good but when he opens his mouth he is the gay equivalent to the Little League Black Panthers>, Kylie <I reserve the right to be str8 if it doesnt hurt my record sales) I would include Ellen but I dont know what she is doing. Is being the most unfunny person on the planet somehow meant to be gay?
Will&Grace? A US revolution or just a sad sitcom showing str8,s what they wanted to see....i.e. cute intelligent rich white gay kids that never actually fucked?
Do gay pride marches, rainbow cafes and gay cities help people to see that who you love is not a choice or just perpetrate the myth that fags are weird.
Do we want equality or normal careers with inbuilt special rights to act to like act fags?

Re: Does the current gay-o-philia help?
Mon, March 19, 2007 - 8:28 AMUnfortunately I have found that being gay has become somewhat of a fad.
I do believe it is 10 trillion times easier to be accepted (at least in the US, in my Liberally-mixed, outside of D.C. -2 million resident po-dunk town) to be gay.
When I realized I WAS gay (in the mid 80's) it was not such a good idea to trounce around like Cindi Lauper, although everyone did. Androgony seemed to be the "Kewl New" thing..........that and HAIR-HAIR-HAIR.
Elton was always gay. Everyone knew it. They just talked under their hands about it.
Will and Grace has always been CRAP and yes, it feed the straight persons reality of gay life.
I watched the Gay Mecha where I lived (Dupont Circle) become homogonized and pasturized. All the gay men either moved out or died. It became a hodge-podge mixture of Yuppies, Hippies, Puppies and Pervs....and a Starbucks on every corner.
WIthin the last ten years I've seen kids "come out" but question their proclamation. My Nephew and Neice (still in High School) were telling me of their Gay friends in Middle school. Well, I would have been ostracized for that in the 80's. I did have people who DID come out (like Lucian) whom I dearly looked up to. It was their strength that kept me going.
When it comes to entertainment, the "Man" (or in the US - Clear Channel) will puke anything down your throat as long as you purchase it or download it after buying a subscription. If it's Gay and it sells, SO BE IT!
Gansta rap sells big as long as you talk about kill'n someone and how much your "grillz" cost. You don't here mainstream Tribe Called Quest or BPD or De La Soul or Public Enemy. It's "Fitty Cent" and the lot. How "gansta" are you. Just dont EVER be black and gay or you'r e playing at a Gay Pride Festival.
Speaking of Gay Pride Festivals - they're festivals and I think they all suk. I think Parades suk. I think Carinvals are filled with Carnies....and suk. I think 4th of July celebrations suk (although the fireworks are pretty cool).
Gay festivals (at least in DC) have atrophied down to queens sitting on the backs of convertable Cooper Mini's shouting "Hey honey" while throwing out condoms and HIV flyers.
As for the normal careers; I've got one. I'm actually lucky to work for a friend who loves me when I act like myself, incourages me to dye my hair and wiats for my taudry tales of the weekend (which never happen anymore, because I'm a bitter old Queen).
SO there's a rant for yah. :) -

Re: Does the current gay-o-philia help?
Mon, March 19, 2007 - 7:39 PMI think that in your liberal oasis' of DC, SF, LA NYC,Miami, Chicago and other big cites it is MUCH easier to be comfortable being a gay person than in such places as Mississippi, Alabama, North Dakota, Utah, Nebraska, Texas and 25 other states
. In order for gay people to achieve equality, it's not going to be in the big cities that matter, but the small towns and the very backwards places that need to see our presence. That is why I am working on a project to create some reverse migration, sending gay people BACK to their hometowns to stick it out and fight rather than running to the gay bubble... There are tons of interesting small and midsize towns that people can live at less than three fourths the cost of living in the gay bubblecities.. There plenty of Midwest, Southern and Northeast cities ripe for rebuilding by creative gutsy artsy gay folk... I used to think that living in the safe bubble of San Francisco was all that until I realized that it's an expensive bubble to live in. Nice place to visit, but not home anymore...

Re: Does the current gay-o-philia help?
Mon, March 19, 2007 - 9:36 PMPerhaps it's a question of WHY it's happening (mostly to make money). Besides it's happened before. The pendulum swings. . . . . -

Re: Does the current gay-o-philia help?
Tue, March 20, 2007 - 6:21 PMGay Pride parades and festivals. Silly tv sitcoms with gay characters. Etc,...
They had a time and place which I think has come and gone. Now the "gay community" is just another block of consumers to be targeted by anyone selling something. I'm a human being first. I just happen to gay too. -

Yep, tell me about it, try the *home* of gay pride <Amsterdam>..(where I live)....it actually makes me feel depressed and last year (as I live on the route) I closed my windows and watched very un-gay DVDs (but only cos I like them)
And Mick...yep..the pendulum does swing....ancient Rome and Greece saw nothing odd about homo/bisexuality but look what happened after...
Maybe I think of gay as I do about my homeland <I love Scots, I just hate all things *Scottish*> -

Fri, March 23, 2007 - 5:45 PM<<Elton was always gay. Everyone knew it.>>
It is folk like him that offend me most. Not for his jewels and his camp and his ...er...active gay voice...but for his blatant hyprocrisy...
When in the 80,s AIDS raised its ugly head Elton saw the lie of the land only too well. He saw Queen virually bomb in the USA after one hit record cos it was kinda obvious that Freddie was not exactly str8. And when all his peers were dying around him (including freddie)..what did he do.....oh yeah...he married a woman.....a virtual stranger....yet just enough to keep record sales up...
Now he says (apologetically) that he was so out of it on drugs he cant remember those days when he did not lift a wig to support gays or HIV/AIDS groups.......the bizarre thing is the world has bought into this collective amnesia.....even stupid wee boys like Jake from Scissors (who considers gay issues the *only* issues on the planet but that shit...
Fact is Kween Elton fucked men in the same dark room as Freddie did but married to avoid folk knowing that...only when artists like Pet Shop Boys (and way before them) folk like Tom Robinson stood up to be counted, did Elton jump on the band wagon...
It irks me that homos are so desperate for a <leader> that they elect a turncoat (sorry, a *Versace* turncoat) like a middle aged, bald, fat, ugly, royalist, up his own ass (who else would be), talentless, boring, did I mention ugly, eye for the main chance, freak like Mr Reginald Dwight -

Sat, March 31, 2007 - 2:17 AMI've been to two "gay pride" events - God they're depressing. There seems to be something very vacuous about most poofters.
