the problem isnt that i can't sleep it's that i'm a freakin night owl..and my job requires me to get up every day at 5am. last night i didnt fall asleep until after 2:15. i can't keep doing this.. it's been like this a loong time..but i know i need to try something to help me get to sleep at a reasonable hour.

I too am a perpetual night owl. I try to stick to routines to prepare for bed, which is research supported. Routines to relax not only help the body prepare, but also the mind. I stretch a bit, turn off all screens and dim the lights, sometimes meditate. I also take hot showers just before bed. After which my body cools down, which releases meletonin, triggering sleep.

I have read research that actually supports warm milk. Research also states things like T.V. and computer screens interfere with natural sleep cycles, though I don't recall if it is anything more than the artificial light. Some recommend chamomile tea. Simple carbs, like pasta, can help put one to sleep, too.
