So one of my toenails just stopped growing a few weeks ago & the toe is kind of swollen & slightly tender. The nail seems fine so far, but in doing a little online research it sounds like it might be a toenail fungus. I just started putting tea tree oil on it twice a day. Do you think that will help? Any other ideas?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Tonenail fungus? (Ew!)
Sun, March 23, 2008 - 9:56 PMIs it swollen all over or only on one side? Any redness? How long has it been swollen and tender? Usually with fungus the nail keeps growing but just comes out unhealthy, yellow and brittle. There are a couple of chinese topical formulas that can be used for fungal infections but they are only to be swathed on the toes and nails, some fungal infections lie within the nail and need to be treated thru the bloodstream, so your only hope might be a western med that can accomplish that. Find a eastern pharmacy that carries Hua Tuo Gao, Tuijin Liniment, or Xiao Yan Tang Shang Cream, better yet go ahead and see a practicioner to assess your situation for the best outcome. -

Sun, March 23, 2008 - 10:05 PMIt's swollen all around but only tender on one side at the base of the nail. I'm going to give the tea tree oil a few more days & I may end up going to an MD. -

Re: Tonenail fungus? (Ew!)
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 2:56 AMHi Samantha:
Keep us informed on how the tea tree oil works... and if that doesn't work, on whatever your MD suggests. If nothing works, and you get desperate, let me know.
Fungi problems usually have a core cause in biological terrain issues. Correcting imbalances, and then directly addressing the infection, is often the most effective route.
HOWEVER, in my experience, doing so can be... unpleasant.

Re: Tonenail fungus? (Ew!)
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 8:26 AMI have read that Vicks mentholated rub will kill toe nail fungus, but have never had call to try it myself. It is a bit of folk medicine, your mileage may vary, but just thought I would throw it out. Read about this on the people's pharmacy. -

Fri, March 28, 2008 - 3:21 PMI think it might be looking a BIT better after the regular tea tree oil use. I'll keep going & see what happens. -

You can consider swapping off your tea tree oil treament with Tetrasil Oinment...
www.tetrasilointment.co.uk/test...s.htm
( you can find tetrasil online from U.S. suppliers as well ).
If your biological terrain is in decent shape, then the Tetrasil will wipe out the fungus... but if your soft tissues are overly acidic ( due to diet/stress ), thus supporting the perpetuation of the fungal infection, then no topical treatment will be 100% successful.

Here are lots of sites with different remedies. One of these should work. Hope this helps.
