Amara,
Would you be kind enough to keep us posted on that yearly excursion you take to Texas for 3rd Coast Tribal's workshops? {Just in case we don't get to readin' their postings about it.}
I know that I would like to go next year (early January, right?) since Ariellah will be there! Plus, as you said, it's good to take classes that we think may be "too hard" for us, as we will learn lots of things anyway!
Also, didn't you say that you try to get a dance spot for Troupe Duende, anyway? Maybe all this is kind of like "old news" to you all, I don't know...I AM a new Ext-Duende, after all! (still working out the spelling on that)
:-)

Re: 3rd Coast Tribal
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 3:36 PMOn the 3rd Coast tribe, early bird registration opens May 8th. Early bird saves you some money on ticket prices, and gives you a better chance at getting into the classes you want. They are also doing a "layaway" plan if you register for classes by May 10th, and get at least $200 worth of classes, you can send them 3 checks each post dated for May 10th, June 10th, and July 10th, and pay for it in monthly installments, but you have to send all the checks up front, and you have to send them by May 10th. It's all on their tribe.

Re: 3rd Coast Tribal
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 10:30 PMOh! I seeeeee....but, what I don't see is pricing per class. Am I missing it? (bunch of stuff on my mind, it's entirely possible) ??? -
-
Re: 3rd Coast Tribal
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 5:10 AMWhen their ordering page goes live on May 8th, there will be prices per class.
Last year they ranged from about $35 or $40 clear up to $120 for the semi-private advanced class with Sharon Kihara. Most were in the the $50-$60 range. If that helps until then. -

Re: 3rd Coast Tribal
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 2:39 PMWhat is this 3rd Coast Tribal event all about? Is it something a beginner could benefit from and actually participate in? I want to know from those who attended how they liked the workshops? Sorry about all the questions but I thought it would be a great getaway for me for next year. -

Re: 3rd Coast Tribal
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 6:02 PMI went this past January, and I got a lot out of it. I don't know what you consider beginner. I've been dancing with Amara for about 2 1/2 years I think. They offer classes for all levels from beginners clear up through uber-advanced. I took a little of it all, and got something out of all of them. I came home with lots of knowledge, I found my lower abs (thank you Sharon Kihara), some really sore muscles in my quads, (again thank you Retu Jayne, Sharon Kihara, and Amy Sigil. I literally waddled home, cried with every step I had to take, and wanted to sleep for days, and it was all worth it. I'll do it again in a heart beat.
It's awsome to meet and dance with people from around the entire country. And since I had the opportunity to perform in the show as well, it was awesome, to be part of a show where you are sharing a stage with the likes of Sharon Kihara and Amy Sigil. WOW!
Even as a newbie, I'd say if you have the opportunity to get there, go for it. -

Re: 3rd Coast Tribal
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 6:23 PMThanks for the info Callie. I have been been only dancing with Amara since January. I had taken cabaret before that. So all in all about a year. I had an opportunity to do a workshop with Sharon Kihara in March and didn't think I wouldn't be able to keep up. It is more fear than anything. I would love to go especially to immerse myself more in the bellydance world!

Re: 3rd Coast Tribal
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 3:26 PMYou could travel to the shows if you're up to it!
As for the class questions - take a little bit with as many teachers as possible.
Cammi Vance was a lot of fun when I had her a few years ago. Bella NaTana is a local (to TX) artist, they are very cool. Why ain't miss O teachin'? :D Artemis Mourat, Ariellah, Sharon, and John Compton are all very famous for different things. Check out their webtubes or read about 'em on other peoples.' Um, and I really don't know how anyone could pass up a frikkin didjereedo class. Dude.
ALL are welcome to join my vanload/caravan load! :D -

Re: 3rd Coast Tribal
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 4:01 PMI was wondering why the wonderful O wasn't teaching either... explanation love?

Re: 3rd Coast Tribal
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 8:42 PMThanks for the info. Now I need to do the research.- Decisions, decisions!
I am all about car pooling! My schedule can be flexible! So tell me when and where.
If the troupe needs a roadie to help out if you perform I would gladly help.
