Maybe I remember it wrong, but I first learned back in the fourth grade that Jupiter has 12 times the gravity of Earth. But later on, I learned that Jupiter has 2.5 times the graviry of Earth. So was there a time when Jupiter's gravity was thought to be 12 gs or did I just remember it wrong?

Re: Jupiter's gravity
Fri, February 2, 2007 - 9:58 PMim not sure about that but jupiter is more than 200 times the size of the earth so i think its probably well over 12 times the pull of earth.

Re: Jupiter's gravity
Tue, March 20, 2007 - 9:40 PMI believe that Jupiter, though 11 times bigger than Earth, is far less dense than the Earth. This is why the gravitational pull is not just 11 times that of the Earth.
Saturn itself is less dense than water and if you had an ocean big enough it would float. Jupiter is a little more dense than water, so sorry, bottom of the ocean for Jupiter!
