A Matriotic Tribepublic - created 09/07/07 |
|
This tribe has been founded specifically for residents of the USA who object to the current pressure to prove their loyalty to the land of their birth, as though contributing to an orderly, free, and cooperative society isn't enough any more. Witnesseth the designation of the anniversary of the World Trade Center and Pentagon bombings as "Patriot Day," as though being a file clerk in a skyscraper was suddenly more patriotic than it had been before 9/11/01, and the re-naming of September 17, Constitution Day, as "Citizenship Day."
Non-citizen residents of the US and like-minded folk from other political states are encouraged to join, provided they are willing to provide support for locals who feel oppressed for not being nationalistic enough, rather than US-bash.
It seems, to this tribe's founder, than identifying as a "matriot" doesn't preclude being "patriotic" in any customary senses of the word, but the emphasis here is on keeping a global--Gaian, for example--perspective.
Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway: Lively, pointed debate is welcome. Ad hominem arguments, name-calling, and personal attacks are not. We criticize logic, not tribemembers, here.
