Currently the One Laptop Per Child program is accepting applications 5/31 for grassroots applications on the new system.
http://www.laptop.org/
This round I am working on learning some of the existing applications like sqeak
http://www.squeak.org/
and even better scratch
http://scratch.mit.edu/

Please contact me if you are involved with an organization that could help to insure Rroma children are included in this important project which will bring laptop systems designed to engage the learner directly in the process of computing, and allow children to share work and educational spaces with each other, teachers, the OLPC and the internet. For over thirty years since we first began dreaming about the "dynabook" we have created everything from the internet to laptops in order to administer this innovative educational system to children everywhere. The key is direct learning and transparency of system. In many ways this project is uniquely suited to the Rroma, and I would love to see as many people involved as possible worldwide making sure that Rroma children receive the laptops that will allow them to participate in the educational program.
