United Kingdom abrogates right to trial by jury in criminal cases.
Civil Rights in Europe all but evaporated.
This last Thursday (11 June, ‘09) the Court of Criminal Appeals for England and Wales held that a court can require a judge-only criminal trial.

In the instant matter four men were suspected of tampering with juries convened to consider robbery charges against them.
This is a first impression ruling and the first time the Criminal Justice Act of 2003 has been applied: www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2...7#pt7-l1g44
That Act abrogates your right to a criminal trial by jury and allows a court to hold a judge-only trial if there is "evidence of a real and present danger" that jury tampering may take place and it is determined that other measures to prevent tampering would be ineffective.
So the mere accusation means you are guilty and thus you lose your rights.
ERGO: in Europe you get that fair trial before the hanging.

This reminds me of the argument that insane pointless squandering of enormous resources is supposed to help dig a path out of crushing debt.
