Re: Such a lovely place China is
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 8:52 PMyeah, i saw those yesterday. . .just looking at those photos makes me sick at my stomach. poor workers having to work and live in that hell. .
people who buy chinese crap should think twice. . .three times before they put their money down.
it's getting pretty damn hard to find stuff that isn't made in china. we need to make some radical changes, cause pollution isn't the half of it. . -

there are going to be fuck-ups regardless. just as there are fuck-ups here.
compare the steady transition in China to the fiasco in Russia.

Maybe it's error to presume that they need to be lifted out of anything.
The hinterlands of China are being dragged kicking and screaming into a really ugly 19th century.
More often than not they tribal villagers whose farms of centuries are being swept aside by river and hydro and road building projects.
They are dragged into the coal mines to grub in the filthy air.
They were probably much better off being left alone.
China's efforts to launch itself as a world power are not about lifting any one from poverty. It's all about the power and the money just exactly like it always is everywhere.

Not at all.
The Chinese hill people and rural villagers have not seen any quality of life improvements subsequent to damming the rivers and digging coal. The government in China doesn't give a rat's ass about them. That's why they send their children to work in sweat shops. -

Thu, November 5, 2009 - 5:27 PMPerhaps we will see how China treats its new interests in Africa as it begans major extraction of mineral resources. I am sure they will behave themselves properly as a guest.
