House Gov Oversight Comm Chair Waxman(D-CA) (here: tinyurl.com/yrz35y) Has alleged that the EPA ( here: tinyurl.com/6qpw5) has withheld critical material from the Gov Oversight Comm. Waxman has threatened compel production of the information he claims is withheld (here: oversight.house.gov/document...0952.pdf)

The information Waxman seeks is related to the EPA decision rejecting California's greenhouse gas emissions waiver request. California wants to regulate emissions from vehicles independently from the US government and it’s regulations which may have occupied the field.

The Oversight Comm seeks to learn if the EPA acted wrongly when it denied the CA waiver request. (here: ag.ca.gov/cms_attachmen...pa-letter.pdf)

The EPA said “NO” in December 2007, citing to the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (here: tinyurl.com/2mjzxj) (fact sheet here: tinyurl.com/2utuf3).

In January 2008, California filed a lawsuit to demand that they be allowed to regulate vehicle emissions independently of the Fed. (PDF here: ag.ca.gov/cms_attachmen...etition-1.pdf)

In February 2008CA AG’s office made a formal statement about the denial ( here: tinyurl.com/2ftqvg)

. Also in Feb the EPA filed a statement ( here: www.epa.gov/otaq/url-fr/fr-waiver.pdf) to be docketed in the federal register explaning the denial

Barbara Boxer claims that the EPA wanted to approve the waiver but that Johnson ( EPA director) refused (here: tinyurl.com/2xrdsh)
