I think we should also require the poster to submit a photo as evidence for our concideration -- saves us from googling the images ourselves, and fills out our photo section more...

oh yeah - David Bowie... rowr! :D

He looks total straight and male when he's not made up.

the problem [for me] is that he looks that way *make up* too... :/ just not sexy to me...
what can I say, I just don't get this guy [only saw him for the first time recently tho]...

OK, no he absolutely does not ever look like a straight man. Antony is always very feminine, make-up or not. He identitfies himself as transgender also. We have performed together many times back in my NYC days.
He doesn't ever look anything like Divine either. He's an amazing artist and his songs will slay you.

Sorry, but the image search I did didn't reveal any photos to support your statement -- perhaps he feminine in person, but the photos just don't do justice to that.... (feel free to pm some good examples if ya got em)

            > He identitfies himself as transgender also. We have performed together many times back in my NYC days.

ummm.. ok.. glad you can refute his photos looking so masculine... still fishing for some examples here, as the one a couple posts up is a good example of such. Sure, I believe he may seem less masculine in person - but the photos just don't do that justice. sorry, but since you know/knew him, I'd love to see some examples that do him justice....

            > He doesn't ever look anything like Divine either.

Speaking only of the face, and to the above link, I still think he does. Now, this is where I should point out that that is not exactly a bad thing here - it is soley suggests the face shots can be similar in masculinity to me. Do I think they are twins? hardly. Is he reminiscent to me? yup.

            > He's an amazing artist and his songs will slay you.

I'm sure he is, but again, I am (as is this entire thread) merely speaking to his looks here.

Cheers, and thanks for the input! :) --Crizzly

I just uploaded 3 photos of Antony into the picture section of this tribe. While I admit that the 2nd one he looks a little like a goth-y teen he by no means looks masculine in any of these pics. I don't think anyone would ever mistake him for a straight man. I'm sure most people also would not think of him as transgender either, that's his own personal identification. He does definitely look male but I think he always looks and seems very feminine.
As for the Divine comment, I love Divine more than anything and think she was a genius. I just don't see any resemblence between them. I mean, Divine wore tons of extreme make-up and Antony usually only has on a little - like in that picture above. They are also both larger in stature so I suppose that's a similarity.

ah, yes, we're mincing connotations is all. :) To me, he looks more like a "sweet/kind guy" (which is actually rather normal around the pacific northwest, so perhaps I'm just attuned to seeing it enough to make distinctions? lol), vs a "girly guy"... I'd say I wouldn't be surprised if I found out he wasn't "straight", but I wouldn't presume otherwise simply based on the shots I found of him.

Getting to that subject, I redid the search for pics of Antony... and this time I mostly found "guy with emo black haircut" style photos... whereas the last time I mostly found the "covered in white completely with bold accent colors" photos. *shrug* Still looks like a fairly normal guy to me...altho I would not describe him as the next marlboro man. :)

                > As for the Divine comment, I love Divine more than anything and think she was a genius.

Ok, so, first off, I tend to look thru the makeup for similarities... so, compare the two photos I uploaded: "John Waters and Divine" to "Antony3". To me, they look like brothers, given the same facial structure and whatnot. I kinda had a initial shove in that direction given one photo of Antony I had seen prolifically in my original search which had a pale face and alot of eye shadow/etc. That kinda made me realise they look alot alike, and I cite the photos above as evidence in my case. :) And, no, not all larger folks look alike to me.... lol ;)

So, yeah, don't worry, we're not arguing or anything... it's just different takes on the appearances - likely from our locales... heck, around here, guys in kilts doesn't get a second look by anyone but tourists typically, but when I travel elsewhere in the US (Vegas, new england, ..) it gets a ton of looks, and sometimes causes near-accidents. :-) It's all just a matter of one's experiences of environments...

Cheers to ya, and thanks for keeping the conversation alive! :) --Crizzly

PS I'm not trying to be argumentative it just struck me as odd that anyone would ever think he looked like a regular dude. Maybe post a picture of him that you saw so I can see what you mean.
              Cheers.

You know, that chick that played that lezbean, who wanted to pass as a dude, and was wasted by his//her two male friends, after they found out he was a she....then they raped her, and then they wasted him and two other people...you know who I am talking about.
    • Hilary Swank as Brandon Teena

      Tue, March 6, 2007 - 2:28 AM
Just as an fyi, Brandon Teena was not a lesbian. He was a female-to-male transsexual (according to what he told his friends, lovers, etc) and he planned to have sex-reassignment-surgery.

I agree that Swank was really attractive in that role. Not "the hottest" , for me--- haven't yet thought of who I think might fill that bill. Mid/late-70's David Bowie is right up there.....

Interesting pics. But Calista Flockheart as "androgynous"??? Small-breasted and anorexic, yes, but it's the first time I've seen the results of an eating disorder interpreted as androgynous. :0

I think it's the Elfish otherworldly quality that Calista gives off that some find attractive and see as androgynous. Bit like Orlando Bloom in the Lord of the Rings trilogy: www.lordoftherings.net/legend...obloom/

          "... Elfish otherworldly quality..."

Yeah, I can see that part. She looks not-entirely-human, at least when you see more candid photos (taken at events etc) where more of her body shows. Tiny, emaciated, frail arms etc. More doll-like. Or like a person who was locked in a cage as a small child and not fed for fourteen years. Actually, it is interesting what that form of ill health would do to a person's gender presentation----- if you've ever seen (in person) women with severe anorexia, they do lose all female shape, their breasts become essentially non-existent, and of course, menstrual periods cease. So, yeah, shortly before death, they're really, really "androgynous". :0

            LOL

I find it very amusing that people are still so obsessed with labeling Calista as an anorexic. Strangely this is all I could find on the web about Calista being anorexic: www.cinemablend.com/celebrit...-104.html

I figure she is just a skinny girl who may well have went through a spell of under-eating due to stress but that's not anorexia. Before anyone asks I do have quite a large DVD collection and I do have all five seasons of Ally McBeal. I did notice that she lost weight and looked rather stressed as the show progressed, especially in the fourth season, but I never thought she was anorexic.

So what about Orlando Bloom? Does Orlando have an elfish appearance or was that just makeup, lighting etc?

              >Hmmm... would John Taylor from Duran Duran around 1982 count?<

Absolutely! How about glitterbug Marc Bolan or early '70s Jagger...?
