Hi Everyone, has anyone switched their totem animal before? For the last week duing meditation, i have been getting the message to change my totem animal. My current one is a small male black bear and i think the new one will be either a polar bear or spirit bear. At least i hope its another bear because i will be really upset if its not!
I intend to do some drumming or rattling, and honour my previous animal and welcome the new.
Has anyone heard of this before?

Re: Changing your totem
Wed, October 21, 2009 - 5:59 AMHi Jennifer,
Here's some info I found on the net for you. :)
Your totem animal can change during your life. As you grow and change your totem animals may change as well. You may have several totem animals at once. But one is a life totem and represents your basic self or personality, your essence.
www.themystica.org/mystica/...tems.html
As we grow the birth totem is helping us. There may be a time as we grow and change that the birth totem moves in the background and another totem is drawn to us. It is possible to have several animal totems in one lifetime.
crystal-cure.com/animal-totems.html
and here is a thread from a friend's tribe.
tribes.tribe.net/animalspe...354dc435c1
I hope it helps and keep in mind that the new totem spirit animal will choose you and make itself known to you. -

Re: Changing your totem
Wed, October 21, 2009 - 1:44 PMI feel that Phoenix's info is correct.
I also feel that there are different Spirit Guides, and Animal Spirit Guides are one of them. When a new Spirit Guide comes to you, it is usually to help you through a NEW expression of your own identity, and also to help you deal with your life as it unfolds.
My own Life Totems do not change, but there are other Totems that make their presence known and teach me for a specific amount of time....until I am ready to go on to the new lesson.....
I think your idea about a ritual (drumming or rattling) to thank the old and welcome the new, is a GREAT idea! Please let us know how that works out....... -

Re: Changing your totem
Thu, October 22, 2009 - 3:42 PMI pulled the Moth card today.
Animal Totems
www.sayahda.com/cycle.htm
"Moths live in all but polar regions. The wings, bodies, and legs of the moth are covered with numerous touch hairs that come off if it is handled. Because of this the moth is highly sensitive to touch. They can feel, smell, taste and determine temperatures with their feathery antennae. The tiny pegs upon them serve as receptors. This gives the moth the ability to perceive everything with clarity. Those with this totem usually have strong psychic and healing abilities. They must be careful not to pick up other peoples problems and carry them around in their own energy field. If this happens confusion and irritability can set in.
The process of metamorphosis is part of the magic the moth holds. The egg stage symbolizes the birth of an idea. The larvae stage indicates the laying of a foundation. The chrysalis stage represents the process of creating, and the winged stage allows it to take flight and explore new territory.
One of the most interesting characteristics of the moth is how it wraps its wings around itself. When resting, they either fold their wings, wrap them around their body, or hold them extended by their sides. This suggests a basic nurturing quality and those with this medicine often find themselves in some sort of care giving role.
The hearing ability of the moth is acute. They are capable of detecting ultra sound because their hearing organs are found on their legs. These enable them to sense vibrations emitted around them. Paying attention to what is being said and what isn't being said is part of the teachings the moth holds. Observing the body language of others is helpful.
When the moth appears in our life it is asking us to pay attention to issues of sensitivity. Are you overly sensitive or insensitive to those around you? Are you involved in a situation that needs to be reevaluated? Are you honoring the integrity of all concerned?
The transformative qualities of the moth are numerous. It shows us how to develop and refine our psychic gifts. The moth is an optimist and an opportunist. It can teach us how to release unwanted influences and fly into the discovery of our personal joy."

Re: Changing your totem
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 8:45 AMHi Everyone, i have my new animal! I had a friend come over to drum for me. First i thanked my current black bear for everything that he has taught me and he walked away. Then my friend instinctively started drumming louder and faster and i felt the sensation that an animal was circling the house. At first i thought it might be a bird but then i realized it was really large. I had to meditate for several minutes and i welcomed it in my mind.
As soon as it entered the house, i knew it was a polar bear! My whole body went instantly cold. She came in with such a flourish and great energy.
She is a great teacher and she started giving directions through me to my friend about how to do a healing on a person. I instructed my friend to place certain stones on my body for healing. I feel really great and i'm so happy that i got another bear! I guess this is my life totem.
My black bear was more about companionship and he followed me around everywhere. My new bear keeps her distance and only steps in when i really need her. But i guess this is probably the manner of the polar bear. I can see she is going to teach me alot.
I have other spirit animals and they are the eagle and raven. Lately owl and moose have been coming to me and i need to read more about these animals.
Thank-you everyone for the advice!!!
I LOVE my animals!!! -

Wed, November 11, 2009 - 5:03 PMInteresting. I was visited by horse this week. it was like one of those native painted ponies or medicine pony. Horse medicine must be good for endurance. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Changing your totem
Thu, November 19, 2009 - 6:56 AMSpeaking of horses, have you seen the "Medicine Pony" photo in the gallery of this tribe? They are very powerful allies to have. -

Re: Changing your totem
Thu, November 19, 2009 - 10:46 PMI never noticed those pics before. Thanks for pointing them out!
I've always thought of the horse as majestic...but there is something about the medicine pony that connects to a higher level. -

Re: Changing your totem
Thu, December 17, 2009 - 11:18 PMWelcome, Smitty. Peacock is my totem. I love love love peacocks and always have since I was a little girl and my great grandfather raised them. I remember collecting all the feathers in his backyard and how I felt so wonderful when the peacocks would come up to me and let me hug and pet them.
So, I have a question for all of you because Polar Bear has come to me twice now. I didn't know he was the animal that helps you reach the astral plane. What other secrets does he hold? -

Re: Changing your totem
Fri, December 18, 2009 - 3:46 AMHi everyone! I feel so welcomed! haha;
-A place where I can communicate freely about animal totems and such: refreshing!
Peacock is your Totem, eh, Petite? Ooh from what I understand he can help teach about clairvoyance, yeah? Wall of eyes and what-not.
I'd like to know more about Polar Bear myself, having learned from Bear before. I've also been seeing Penguin in meditations lately and I think they have similar connections to Lucid Dreams and what-not. -

Re: Changing your totem
Fri, December 18, 2009 - 3:57 AMHello Smitty,
I am glad you are enjoying this tribe and yes, you are welcomed here.
Here's something I found on the net for you.
-Polar bear's medicine includes the ability to navigate along the earth’s magnetic lines , introspection, ability to find sustenance in barren landscapes, purity of spirit, strength in the face of adversity, solitude, expert swimmer through emotional waters, finding ones way back from the brink, communication with Spirit, dreams, death and rebirth, transformation, creature of dreams, shamans, mystics and visionaries, defence and revenge
-Within the animal kingdom the polar has no enemies. However, they do have but one enemy - the human hunter.
-Intelligent and fearless
-a spirit helper
-Of the bear family the polar is the most aggressive and carnivorous

Re: Changing your totem
Fri, December 18, 2009 - 3:50 AMHi Petite. I found this on the net for you.
In shamanism bears are totem animals or power animals. They take us to the very source of 'nature in motion' - the summer solstice - shaminism - the rhythm of drumming - sweat lodges and cleansing - as we meditate - initiate - and activate our DNA to uncover our lost wisdom and soul's purpose.
Bear is the keeper of the dreamtime, and stores the teachings of dreams until the dreamer wakes up to them.
Bear medicine is the power of introspection.
Bear is a fierce warrior, especially when protecting their young.
With Bear Medicine, the power of knowing has invited you to enter the silence and become acquainted with the Dream Lodge, so that your goals may become concrete realities. This is the strength of Bear.

Re: Changing your totem
Sat, December 19, 2009 - 9:06 AMWhen people ask me what my totem/power animal is, I laughingly but seriously reply "I have a zoo."
I have different animal allies for differnt moments in life - healing, adventure, strength, soul-purpose.
It's all relative to our paths, how and where we walk, and our growth.
Happy Solstice!

Re: Changing your totem
Yesterday, 6:04 PMI love you Phoenix!! thanks for the info.
I'm asking because I just bought these Heart & Soul angel cards by Angela McGerr. It's a deck that she's designed to help you work on your heart's desire and soul purpose. The two animal cards that I pulled were my beloved peacock and polar bear; both of which resonate with me very much.
I'm not that familiar with polar bear although I've been seeing him a lot in my dreams lately, so that's why I was asking. The last two months I've really been going within and looking at myself with a cold, Blue Heron eye, and going within during meditation and noting what comes up. Each time, it's new information about spirituality and/or accessing higher truths via my intuition/psychic eye. I've been getting deeper and deeper into the core of my personal truth and I'm being led by Polar Bear and accompanied by Peacock.
