*Props* to the people who are unjustly on trial today and tomorrow essentially for witnessing Canada's evil nemesis on a global scale, the 'annual' seal slaughter... The unified voice of an ever-loudening worldwide call to end the seal hunt needs to be fully heard out, not penalized and harrased in backwardsville yang dominated court systems that don't come close to employing listening skills in the first place. Over the years, the government has imposed increasingly restrictive conditions on observers in an effort to hide the atrocity of this slaughter from a world outraged by it. On *Thursday and Friday, October 18 and 19*, the HSUS/HSI ProtectSeals team will stand trial for documenting the hunt, accused of crossing the 10-meter barrier they are required to maintain from seal hunters as a condition of their observation permits. This was not the case, and we have the evidence to prove it. At the same time, Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) is trying another tack: proposing amendments to the Marine Mammal Regulations which would clarify the terms under which the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans could refuse any person an observation permit for the seal hunt. Please tell the DFO and Prime Minister Stephen Harper right now that you support the right of the ProtectSeals team to observe and document the hunt, and that you will not accept these amendments to the Regulations or this cynical attempt by the Canadian government to cover up the cruelty it is allowing to take place. Please take time to personalize the letters—it is important for the government to know that each letter comes from an individual concerned about the seal hunt. In 2007, more than 215,000 baby seals were killed in Canada for their fur -- clubbed, shot and skinned in the largest commercial hunt of marine mammals in the world. Once again, the Canadian government is trying to block observation of the commercial seal hunt, and we have very little time to act. Join me in protecting the right to bear witness to the hunt and expose its cruelty to the world. Please take action today to help end the cruel seal hunt by sending the Canadian government comments on the trial of the ProtectSeals team and proposed amendments to the Marine Mammal Regulations. Comments are due in October!
