Greetings to you all,
I found this place looking for others who were Satanists and had an Interest in Anton Lavey.
Let me tell you all a little bit about myself. I'm now 52 years old and when I was 15 I was going through a really bad time in my life especially my sexuality. I was brought up Christian and was so messd up with guilt I almost took my life over thinking I was going to die someday and be judged for all my sexual thoughts and deeds. One night on the evening news which my father always watched, I saw the most impressive man I have ever seen. They were talking about Anton Lavey and his formation of the Church of Satan. I became totally swept up in his apearance and just had to write him. I ordered the Satanic Bible and read it cover to cover and all my fears and guilt went out the window. I onced received a personal letter from him which I still have to this day. beleive me, that is only the begining of the story. I even met this guy 8 years my senior when I was 17 and married him with the promise of going to SanFrancisco to join the Church Of Satan. It didn't work out as I planned because the guy was a con and I ended up coming back to Oklahoma City where I'm from, after the FBI picked him up at a Motel we were staying at in Lewiston Idaho. I went on with my life but always continued the practice of my Satanic beliefs and then when I heard he had past away I felt like that I had lost a second father. I would have given anything to have met him before he past from this world. I need others of like mind to comunicate with so badly and maybe even eventually join the ChurchOf Satan like I had planned for so many years. I want to say any of you are welcome to e-mail and I would love to hear from you.
Hail Satan!

Sun, April 22, 2007 - 2:31 PMHello Jay,
thanks for the reply and welcome.
maybe if your down this way another time we can meet.
I think there is a few more than just me because they were trying to form a Satanists
MeetUp group through meetup.com awhile back and it kind of fell apart because of
not being able to find a good meetup location. I wished I could afford a big old rent house
I would surely get things going.

Sun, April 22, 2007 - 2:47 PMI wouldnt want to be a part of any Satanist group unless I joined the COS and then I would find the nearest grotto and see what they are like or start one of my own. -

Sun, April 22, 2007 - 3:00 PMI have tried getting a response from Karla Lavey but havn't had any luck.
I even wrote her, but never heard back. I was thinking about maybe copying
my letter from her father that he sent me and sending her that and then maybe
she would take me seriously. I want to join so bad and have all my life.

Re: New Member
Sun, April 22, 2007 - 3:04 PMI don't know many COS members who've stayed all that active since LaVey died.
there is a sweet picture of my sister filling out some forms for COS involvement when we lived in TX in the back of my photo gallery:
images.tribe.net/tribe/upl...d4240f69b1
she is a very articulate and intelligent writer and apparently her membership app back before he died impressed ol' Anton but even she is not involved pretty much at all anymore. I totally respect what the COS was trying to do but I don't have enough contact with current active members to know how things are going without the good Doctor. -

Sun, April 22, 2007 - 3:50 PMI think to some extent you actually have to be a member for people who are already members to be more interested in speaking with you about it. I think if people know youre a member alot of what you get is debate and it's not really something of interest to members. Even me not being a member get people who want to endlessly discuss WHY and WHAT and what have you. I say the same thing a few people I know who are members say, "It's all on www.churchofsatan.com ". I used to try to keep up with what Zeena & Karla & his son and Blanche and everyone is up to. It interests me and maybe at some point I will look into what they are up to currently. If I get to the point where I want to join I will fill out the form and submit it. I'm always teetering on the edge of taking the swan dive but time keeps passing by and I just do my thing. Maybe one day. Till then I'll just keep doing my thing. Even if I do and did I would basically be doing the same thing. My thing. My life. That's all I can do is live my life as I see fit whether I'm a member or not. I think that's mostly what it's all about anyway. -

Sun, April 22, 2007 - 3:53 PMEven the Setian member I know is cool with hanging out and having some drinks and shooting some pool. But when it comes to discussing TOS she's not really interested. I think you have to actually be in the TOS for someone that's in it to want to discuss it in any detail with you.

Re: New Member
Sun, April 22, 2007 - 4:29 PMI think the CoS is practically dead, as far as being an organized body for sanctioning doctrine goes. It's become a relic... A pleasant reminder of the legacy of Dr. LaVey... Definately not something that can be useful for our purposes. -
-
Re: New Member
Sun, April 22, 2007 - 4:35 PMI see it as very alive and not a relic. I could be wrong. What are "our purposes"? I don't think certain people that are involved with the COS would be members if it is as irrelevant as some people think it is. Typically people who hold these views are obviously not members. -

Re: New Member
Sun, April 22, 2007 - 4:40 PM>>>I see it as very alive
--->Exactly what you have seen Marvin?
Indeed, I am not a member. That's only because they have disbanded their organization and said you may become a member by sending us your money and we'll send you a cool ID card that says you're one of us, but there are no local grottos, no organization, and no real interest in realizing the dream of Dr LaVey. Just fundraising by selling cool ID cards.
I think our purpose is to network with like minded people and support/cooperate with each other as we collectively resist the efforts of the RRR (Radical Religous Right-wing) to control our lifestyle choices through legislation and social pressures. -

Re: New Member
Sun, April 22, 2007 - 4:47 PMI'm not a member either but I think they are interested in more than selling 200 dollar ID cards. There are no local grottos? No organization? I thought there was according to their site. But not being members we would not be knowledgable of these grottos or organization. I'm sure it's very members only. If I joined and they accepted me there would probably be things I would not be discussing with non members I would imagine. If we're not in and down we truly have no idea. -

Re: New Member
Sun, April 22, 2007 - 5:02 PM>>>I thought there was according to their site.
---->As I understand it, the formal sanctioning of grottos has ended. Any grottos that had been sanctioned may or may not still exist. It is true that as non-members we wouldn't be knowledgable even if there were, but I have a feeling that even if I mailed in my $200 and got my cool ID card indicating I too was a member, I still would not know of any local grottos I can participate in, because there probably aren't any.
I think a much smarter move would be to form a grotto ourselves. With a good size group of members who are intelligent and successful in their personal lives, when we begin making an impact on our community, if there is an organized church of satan, they would take note and reveal theirselves to us so that we can join and become part of them.
If there is no such organization, we've lost nothing and we've gained what we were searching for in the first place. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: New Member
Sun, April 22, 2007 - 5:23 PMI think it sucks that it would take 200 dollars to find out but I guess it depends how bad you want to know. What kind of impact do you wish to make on your community? They have revealed themselves. We can join & become a part of them if we join the COS. Until this is done you will have no idea what soing so will accomplish. It's not like theyre some outreach program to feed and clothe the poor. If people are interested they come to COS. I dont think COS comes to people who can't decide. I dont think theyre really into "recruiting". I think they are there for those who are interested and if youre not interested enough to join then you will probably never know.
God I am so interested to join now! lol It's been a long time coming. I have always been leary of rejection though. I like to think they would accept me but I wonder how I would feel if my membership form was rejected? lol Hmm. Guess I won't know till I try. -

Re: New Member
Sun, April 22, 2007 - 5:44 PM>>>They have revealed themselves.
--->They really haven't revealed anything, except they'll gladly accept $200.
So what you're saying is that I should send a check for $200 and fill out a lenthly questionaire that includes very personal information and send that to someone I don't know hoping to receive something in return that I'm not allowed to know what it is until after I've done this? Yeah right! That'll never happen.
I wasn't talking about recruiting. There's no sense in that. I'm talking about the organization (if there is such a secret organization in our midst) that takes note of a group of satanists who have been successful of achieving their goals, and inviting them in because they have proven theirselves worthy, instead of proving they are a bunch of gullible sheep who were sillied into sending $200 to a stranger in exchange for nothing.
Let us know how that works out for you.... Oh dam, that's right, you wont be allowed to talk to us anymore, lol.
No, in all seriousness, do you see where I'm coming from at all here? -

Re: New Member
Sun, April 22, 2007 - 6:31 PMTotally. I have reservations about joining anything. But I do find it all very intriguing. : ) Hence, todays dialogue.
