I think the math is there. we each have our own preferences. is it possible to allow us to create our own home page the same way you allow us to do things on our profile. (or similar).

My 2 cents

  • First, many thanks to Tribe for actually listening to the users -- the updates are a vast improvement.

Tabasco's idea is a brilliant one. It would solve a lot of problems.

Also, please let users customize the color scheme. All the white space is killing me.

Users should be able to control the layout just like they do on their profiles.

Friends should be more prominently positioned -- after all, that's why most of us are here. I would put them where the left-side menu is.

As for the menu: it eats up too much valuable real estate. I rarely use those buttons. Why not go to a tab-style format where all those menu items can go on a seprate page that you can access via a tab at the top of the page.

Same deal with the "my tribe/tribes/members/places/listings" bubbles -- they take up too much space at the top of the page and they look ugly. Please reduce them to small tabs at the top of the page.
    • black jaguar, that's my personal crusade at the moment as well. I think they should do exactly that, customize the home page, an let us put on what we want where we want, and add the template as well.

You have an interesting point about the menu also. I can't think of the last time I used it. I probably would if I bookmarked things, but I don't. I don't bookmark things, for some reason. Usually I just join a tribe if I'm interested in it. Does anyone use that menu sidebar on every visit or otherwise "frequenty"?

Sounds suspisciously like the old tribe design, the way you describe it... :-)
      • Just found this on the Tribe FAQ page:

Q: Can I design my own profile style?
A: The profile style gallery currently only contains styles created by Tribe, but the gallery is meant to be a showcase for Tribe members' creativity. Stay tuned for news on how to submit your own style for addition to the gallery.

Sounds like it's in the works, eh?
    • I also don't use the menu bar on the left very much, only for a few things. The big bubbles on the top are meant primarily for new users - something approachable and easier to use. Also it is evident that tribe is trying for a craigslist-type function with the new prominence being given to places and listing - but I don't know if they will ever make it: tribe just doens't have the membership to support location-based functionality.

I also agree that it is a big mistake to send friends down to the bottom. They should be placed prominently.
