Summer Vacations?

Anyone one doing anything or going anywhere?

My free time will be spent helping my mother in her never ending quest to clean out the attic and organize before it kills one of us.

I'm going to Seattle to help my mom with some cleaning in a week.

So far, I plan on visiting my GF who's on retreat near Ashland, OR, in June.

I may go to NYC in the summer, too. Maybe September?

Also, I heard a rumor that there's a voluntary leave program starting soon at work, so once that gets started, I may take another week or two in London or Europe.

    Chicago's also nice in summer...

I'm sure I was speaking of Wrigleyville, where I spent one July, where there's at least some air. I like it hot, though.

I like it hot, just not humid and hot. I am a delicate flower.

I hear you. If I'm near a river or lake, though, even in your landlocked middle america, I'm happy.

Those queens in Manhattan had it right when they started carousing at the Chelsea Pier. Thank God, sometimes, for the Hudson River.

Houston: NO...no water. One big parking lot. One must go to Galveston. I don't know what they do in Atlanta.

Not sure about in ATlanta but when I lived in Marietta we spent every weekend from spring to fall on the Chattahoochi (sp) River white water rafting and jumping off cliffs into the river.

            heh....

I'm going to try to be making a living this summer. That's all I have planned. If I happen to win the lotto, I MIGHT try to go to Denver in August for a convention, but I don't see that happening.

              What convention?

My big summer excursion will be going out y Ohare to Wizard World Comicbook convention. Garth Ennis is supposed to be there. Going to try and drag bowiegirl there. I met Lois Lane there last year. DORK, I am.

                Cool!

It's called Denvention, it's the World Science Fiction Convention? I think the website is www.denvention.com. I figured how much it would cost and realized it would be almost $1000. I think it's like $250 for the tickets to go, about $150/night hotel for a week, and then about $200-300 for airfare and none of that counts in the shoppin....

So I'm going to a writer's conference here instead. It's not in my genre, but it is in my price range and back yard practically. It's in downtown LA and includes lunch and snacks and a pitch slam session with agents, as well as seminars. Not that I have anything to pitch, but I figure it would be good to go watch and learn.

Can you pitch even if its not in your genre. It would be good experience/opportunity if you could.

The more experience you have, the better at it you will be when the really important one comes along!

It's at the end of May. Maybe I'll have some idea to pitch by then. It would be good practice, but I also don't want to take up valuable time from an agent or editor with a "fake" idea when there are others out there with real ideas.

Shit, man, I clicked on this thread and thought Bowie had DIED. Glad to see it's just Bowie Avatar Day.

Anyhoo, we might go to Seattle with the kiddies for a few days in July, as long as they can get along with each other well enough until then.

I may spend the whole summer working. If I get time off, I might just go to my cabin in the Sierra-Nevada mountains: swim, sun, grill fish and drink beer. If I'm lucky, I'll share the time with somebody.
