Re: Suggestions, helpful tips?
Fri, August 7, 2009 - 8:10 PMHmmm...do you have a storyline in mind? It's usually easier for me to do a gothic dance when I am playing a character and there's some kind of conflict or change. It helps me with the mood of the song, gives me an attitude to approachand execute moves and combinations with, and helps me practice and maintain eye contact, facial expression, hand gestures.
If you're using a shroud or veil for the beginning, I'm thinking a few things:
1. You could be something evil disguised, like a harmless old woman who really holds a poisoned apple for the unsuspecting
2. the opposite: you're something pretty and enchanting with the veil on, pulling the audience in, and when you come out, you're putting your spell on them until you show your true colors...you can be creepy, scary, but still sexy, if you want to. You could even tease with the veil, peek out a little, hide, show a little, take it back (I know you have the first part choreographed, but I don't know how it looks so far or if you want to add anything)
3. What if you went really wild...like the veil was controlling you in the beginning, and you did really creepy things with it on, and you escape, but it tries to hold on? Kind of like the alien symbiote and Spiderman, only prettier. The music gets kind of white-noise and chaotic, so I kind of like this one. :)
I am biased, and I usually let the evil win or take over. hehehe...
Just a few thoughts. -

Re: Suggestions, helpful tips?
Sat, August 8, 2009 - 1:15 AMI am with Melanie. Storyline always helps. What costume are you planning to wear underneath coz I find the costume and the story need to go together. So say you wanted to go down the old lady route maybe think of Miss Haversham and take clues from movie stills

Re: Suggestions, helpful tips?
Tue, August 11, 2009 - 3:37 PMThanks for the suggestions!!! They are so great!! The veil was tulle, so there wasn't a huge surprise element. The storyline idea helped alot! I decided to go with a woman who lost someone, and was lost in the veil, it represented how someone gets lost in emotions and everything else that goes with the death of a loved one. At the climax of the song, I threw off the veil with some struggle...mostly because it was stuck to my hair. It was like throwing everything bad away...at least that's what i was going for. I the end I had a black rose that i tossed, then looked at it like...with a sigh of relief.
That's why I love tribe, everyone helps everyone. -

Re: Suggestions, helpful tips?
Fri, August 14, 2009 - 1:36 PMI'm a little late in the reply, but when the word of veil in art is mentioned, I tend to always think about Salome, her dance and her cruel request.

I'm a big fan of art, and there are lots of inspiring ideas in these great pieces of art.
