Re: I've joined your tribe to tell you that ARIZONA IS EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mon, February 12, 2007 - 11:23 PMWell, I agree with you. I think the premise for this tribe is to rant about the metropolises of the state. It would be fine if the metropolis was extremely vertical instead of the current typology of vast horizontality and sprawl. could you imagine the 6 million inhabitants or so living in a super dense environment?? look at the cities like hong kong, mumbai, shanghai, tokyo, barcelona... these cities boast over 10 million inhabitants with soaring skyscrapers. At the end, this very smart urban systems saves resources, and forms communities. Communities are DEVOID in arizona cities. And "gated" communities like those that are called "la vita" or whatever borrowed italian word are not communities. They are illusions that only feast off of the ignorance of its citizens. And boy, are there a lot of them there. They don't even RECOGNIZE the desert. All they have to do is turn up the air conditioner in their cars, in their homes, and in the malls. No one ever goes outside. No one ever plants a tree to make neighborhoods cool down anymore. They rather save money and buy tons of rocks to be laid in their yards. Well, it's better than having grass anyhow. Desert cities could be quite amazing; there are so many examples of them around the world.. in africa, middle east, and asia that boast plenty of vernacular way of life in the dry climate of the desert. Even in the backcountry of Phoenix, one can find the most beautiful cave dwellings, carved into the landscape. Ultimately, people are affected by the way communities in large are designed. Though everyone now gets a lot of land, the psychological impact on its citizens is not worth it to continue to expand the metropolis anymore. The place is null of culture, diversity, indivuality. it's all about football and corporate sponsorship out there. A good way to stop global warming... stop sprawl!!!!!!!!! fuck you planning department.

Sat, April 21, 2007 - 10:26 PMAgreed!
Also, as far as SOME Performance Arts go (seems there is a large Belly Dance and Fire Arts Community), it is exciting to think of AZ as pretty much a clean slate with great opportunities. I am moving back to AZ (my home state) to bring Aerial Circus Arts into the mix! -

Sat, April 28, 2007 - 8:27 AMThere are some really great things about Arizona. . .Phoenix just isn't a very pretty city. . .and it's too hot. But there are a lot of great people here, and the cultural undercurrents are running strong.

Re: I've joined your tribe to tell you that ARIZONA IS EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sun, May 20, 2007 - 11:45 AMArizona is a wasteland of emo whining bitches, metrosexual he/shes, and drug dealing tweekers. This state is the most backwards, ignorant, and rude state I have ever lived in and I lived in West Virginia!
This state needs to be wiped from the face of the Earth. It's a total and utter waste of barren land. -

Unsu...
Rude?
Tue, May 29, 2007 - 3:38 AMI just move here so I could be wrong: people in AZ are super nice and polite! But I'm starting to realize that this attitude is actually more contagious than sincere. I'm from Maryland and I miss all the rude people and GENUINELY nice people there! Bah!

Re: I've joined your tribe to tell you that ARIZONA IS EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mon, August 13, 2007 - 10:10 AMArizona is epic...the "epic"-center of hell. The north, the so called 'pretty, scenic' part of AZ is always catching fire during the summer months. The Bubonic Plague is alive and well in prarie dog colonies near Flagstaff.
I have been here far too long... and I have found nothing good about this nightmare called AZ. The first thing I noticed .... on my very first day here is that the bugs attack people like crazy! They go right for the eyes.... guess cause that is a water source for them. Other places have more bugs, but at least they usually keep their distance.
I have not one good thing to say about Arizona, its culture, its residents, its cities, nothing.
They tear down trees and plant dead cactus among rocks and boulders. They plow up fields and put in strip malls. Then they wonder why it is getting hotter in the desert each year.... oh duh!
People from other countries flow into the state like the water that it lacks. They do not assimilate into the culture, but rather force their cultures down our throats. They have no respect for the laws, or city codes. They have no respect for the people they live next too.
And one more thing for now.... Never, ever have I heard a Police Officer say "Please" when instructing someone not break the law! That is until I heard an Officer in Arizona say: "Please don't shoot off firecrackers...." Excuse me! Please???? Please don't break the law???? The wimps!!

Re: I've joined your tribe to tell you that ARIZONA IS EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sun, October 14, 2007 - 3:49 PMArizona is totally not EPIC. It is probably the single worst place in America to live. Yes, I said it, it is.
Why would I make a statement like that? Two words: 121 degrees. Or two more words: 34 days (the number of days it was above 110 in Phoenix this past summer). Do you know what that means? That means when the rest of the country is out and enjoying summertime, we're burning up in hell. While kids in Wisconsin are enjoying 4th of July fireworks, our kids see it from the backseat of their family's air conditioned car. There is no more boring place in the USA than Phoenix during the summertime. The only things you can do in Phoenix during May, June, July, August & September are:
a.) Go to the mall
b.) Go bowling
c.) Watch a movie
d.) Sit in a lukewarm tub outside at your apartment complex with 65 redneck kids swimming around you screaming "Marco! POLO!"
Yeah, yeah I know..."Arizona is amazing in the winter," cries Mr. and Mrs. Phoenician. Au contraire. Phoenix is nice from the middle of October to about the first week of November. And then again during a few days in March. Then God turns the oven on again. Hell, it's October 14 now and the temperature is finally (after six months) back in the 80s. The rest of the winter is chilly. No swimming. No sunbathing. Phoenix pretends it's San Diego but in all actuality it gets much, much colder than all of Southern California, and conversely much, much, much hotter. And if you don't believe me, move here and check out your electric bills. All year long they're crazy high from running the air nonstop to running the heat nonstop.
There is absolutely no culture here. Unless you consider the Spanish graffiti spray painted randomly around your neighborhood forms of culture. The city has sprawled out in every single direction. The traffic is unbearable. And even if you get to leave the city on weekends (like the rest of the 4 million or so of us try to), you have to sit in a traffic jam to get out only to sit in a traffic jam to come back in. Seriously, who planned the highway between LA (the nation's third biggest city) and PHX (the nation's fifth biggest city) and thought, "I think we should keep it two lanes!!!"
People here suck so friggen bad too. They're all soccer moms with gigantic, lifted SUVs or they're scum-sucking real estate agents that have no soul. They treat everyone else like crap. They drive with utter disregard of any sort of law ever written. And they let their little brat kids drive their ATVs throughout the neighborhood to "practice" before they take them to the dunes on I-8 on weekends to kill themselves.
But I hear there's jobs! Lots and lots of jobs. Gobs of jobs. Jobs for everyone! #1 job market in the country: Phoenix, Arizona! The jobs they are currently offering here are:
a.) warehouse workers
b.) road construction workers
c.) taco stand cashiers OR
d.) house auctioneers/bank foreclosure representatives
Arizona natives suck ass. They treat the rest of us like shit all while preaching out how "ruined" their state is now that we've moved in. They talk about how we should move our "liberal" asses back to wherever it is we came from. As far as I'm concerned, it's kinda hard to feel welcome in a place where John McCain and Jon Kyl and Joe Arpaio are treated as some sort of western movie heroes.
Yeah yeah, I know. I'm gonna get the deluge of hate-postings. "ARIZONA ROCKS! GET OUT IF YOU HATE IT!" I'm way ahead of you there. I'm leaving. The way I look at it, if you live in a place where central air conditioning is not only a means to stay comfortable, it's a matter of life and death, that's probably not the best place to raise your kids. Or to have pets. That's actually my idea of hell. And it's all here for you, in wonderful sunbaked Arizona.
It's a DRY heat, my ass...obviously the suckers who uttered those famous words never spent any time here during monsoons. Only in Arizona would anyone ever include the phrase, "Oh my God, look at that HAIBOOB!" in their vernacular. I'd rather shovel snow then pick flying dirt out of my contact lenses ever again, thank you. At least you can have a shot of whiskey to warm you up. If you drink shots of alcohol in this hellhole, it could kill you.
So to sum this up: it sucks here, I'm leaving. Arizona, I can't imagine who would want to live here in 5 years. What with Global Warming and the crazy humid monsoons we've been having. So I'm getting out and spending some time in the real West. I just hope that Utah and New Mexico are paying attention. They should plan now before they're ruined from all the Arizona refugees: "I'm on FIRE! It's 130 degrees! ARGH!!" -

Re: I've joined your tribe to tell you that ARIZONA IS EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tue, October 16, 2007 - 12:18 PMI agree that it's totally hot..there's not much culture..and most of the people suck. I never see tweakers or a lot of old people though, where the hell are you guys living/going that you're seeing that kind of stuff?
Things and people are changing in Az, especially if you live around Tempe. How could they not..with MR Asu president trying to take over the world?? He is trying to make ASU the biggest University in the U.S. People are also coming all over for the music conservatory. New sky rises/condo's are also bringing people to downtown Tempe.
If you live in phoenix, well that's just your problem.

Re: I've joined your tribe to tell you that ARIZONA IS EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fri, November 2, 2007 - 7:58 PMexactly!! i couldnt agree with ya even more! i really dont see whats fun to do here, if it was so fun here it would be more ppl in this state. i even ask native ppl here where the social club organizations are at to meet new people and i just get silence! i mean every state has them if u r new to the state of course. ive met ppl who were really not that nice or smart! ive met dumbasses from phx, mesa, aj, and those other dumb towns, they were mainly men who were not so smart. someone else said az ppl are nice? i havent seen nice! well, when i go out i have met nice ppl other than that, nah. maybe im not gettin out much, maybe i havent seen enough of the ppl here. im from cali, my fiance and i are gonna leave AZ when we are done with college and move back to NY.
its really hard to get around here if u dont have a car, places are 2 damn far to travel by bus and when u have to figure out what time that bus stops running and figure out how u r gonna get back home without being stranded!

Re: I've joined your tribe to tell you that ARIZONA IS EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mon, November 26, 2007 - 10:46 PMI've gotta agree with Kimmy!
Having lived in several parts of the state including Phoenix (16 years) and Tucson (5 years), and having traveled to about 30 US states and at least 15 countries, I feel like I have to agree ARIZONA IS EPIC! However, I notice that several people on this list are actually not bitching about Arizona, they seem to be talking about phoenix. Phoenix is one of the crappest cities in the country! Phoenix is not Arizona. Get out of phoenix! Try Bisbee, Prescott, Flagstaff, Jerome, Tucson... There are more rad communities throughout the state and countless beautiful places, but you'd be hardup to find a person who includes phoenix among them.

Re: I've joined your tribe to tell you that ARIZONA IS EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thu, January 10, 2008 - 8:19 PMI am here to echo everything Abe has mentioned about Arizona. It is a horrible state, the worst one I have lived in by far. What's funny is that it's right next door to CA, by far the best state to live in. People in AZ are not friendly at all! They stink, they are fat, they are frumpy, and extremely rude and obnoxious. The men here have to drive their LIFTED TRUCKS and sit 3 floors above everyone else while driving their Silverado 3500 down the road acting like they are superior to everyone else. In CA we have a name for those people: Rednecks! But here it's the cool thing to do. If you are an intellectual, and appreciate art and classical music, people here will think you are gay. Education does not take a high priority here at all. Less than 8% of people have a college degree, and most young people I talk to don't even have plans to go to college. I guess that is why Arizona was ranked as the "Least Educated State" in 2006, and believe me, it's noticeable. Racism towards those of other cultures is very high here. If you go into a foreign restaurant, the place is empty and so many of them go out of business, however the steakhouses and chicken-wing joints have people flooding out the doors. But on top of the rudeness, smelliness, racism, and lifted trucks, atleast they are conservative republicans! Thank Goodness!
By the way, I am moving back to CA in 3 weeks after more than 3 years of living in this dump. -

exactly! i couldnt agree with u even more! im a cali girl myself, my fiance is from ny! he says the same thing ur sayin, u have assholes in everyday, but so far ive seen the most assholes in this state! i have never met so many rude people in my life, the ppl here are so stupid, they dont use any kind of common sense whatsoever! the women in az are the most stupid to me, i have met so many high school drop outs and they are not even worth my time.
i have met nice people as well, i think most ppl here have a stick in their ass!
