I wrote this last year when I was still living in Tucson. I thought you'll might enjoy it.

Have I been dreaming the last 7 years?
Does a grocery store have to have security guards at all hours of the day?
With only the poorest workers coming there with their babies at midnight?
Where is the city?
I know where the suburbs are.
Three blocks downtown is not much, but
there are delightful restaurants and original bars.
Hard to find, but they are there.

Oh, and I love sun.
E v e r y d a y.
Roasting me like a chicken slowly over the fire.
Giving me a great tan and skin cancer.
So, I will leave Tucson by night.
So, that I can't see the angry mountains yelling at me:
"Leave, if you don't like it!"

There are so many people here I'd like to meet,
If only someone would look up from the concrete sidewalk, please?
They are like gems hidden in fog
deep enough that it makes me proud just knowing of them.
These are spirited people, independent and unique.

Oh, you shy people of Tucson.
Do fraternity boys have a monopoly on extrovertness?
I am not shy.
I just like to keep to myself.
Sitting alone at home
writing with my bleeding pen.
I have not felt at-home in a long time.
Loneliness is my best friend.
It's always with me, it's comforting that way; you know?
