Having been in the wine industry for almost 15 years in CA and recently moving to AZ, I really wanted to somehow get back into the wine industry…. Have never encountered such a “forward thinking” idea like this one and after VERY carefully and painfully going through this vineyard and winery investors packet, I invested.
One month later, we had an article in the Wall Street Journal, and many more to come! If anyone is interested in more info, let me know and I will pass on whatever info I can.

Hi Guys,

The wine-making equipment was easy enough to locate, but what about the grapes?

If you’ve made your own wine, any advice on how to obtain a small quantity of quality grapes for an at-home vintage? I believe that the grapes at your typical, established vineyards are already reserved, with plots contracted out to various wineries, no?

As it is right now, it seems that I will have to stick with the concentrates…I guess this will work as I continue to figure out what the hell I am doing…but I have attitude…I mean, I don’t want some concentrate that’s as old as the relic sitting behind the counter…and, more importantly, I want the satisfaction of crushing my own grapes, dammit!

Also, any input on these McWinery experiences that are popping up here and there (e.g. CrushPad in the SF Bay Area)? Again, I have attitude but haven’t actually tried them or spoken to anyone who has used them…so my prejudice has no basis…

Thanks for your input. Here’s my offering in return: Mauritson zinfandels. Some friends and I found this winery in Healdsburg, CA a few years back when the winery was just starting so we had the opportunity to speak with the winemaker and toss a Frisbee with his dog. His family has owned vineyards for years and years but never made wine. He decided to take a shot at winemaking and its doing pretty well, being stocked in some flashy restaurants in NYC and the like…whatever; I thought it was pretty tasty and I’m typically not a huge fan of zinfandels.

Out.
