Charlie was a missionary to Uganda East Africa, Rwanda, Berundi, Peru and Mexico. He was a member of the Rock Four Square Church in Highland Park, CA and the Church of the Living World of God in Los Angeles, CA. Thanks to all. Charlie "Sako" Sahagian was truly a spirit-filled man and will be missed by all.

This shop is famous, and is the best place to find Middle Eastern and Bellydance recordings. It's Armenian owned, so naturally they have a great selection of Armenian music. I was so thrilled to find this cd, as the featured drummer on this is the late Ali Hafid, a Moroccan, he's one of my favorite drummers. Ali Hafid plays such great riffs on this, he really delivered the goods! George Mgrdichian is an incredible Oud player, my God! I highly recommend this disk. It has a great variety of Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, Israeli and Greek songs on it. And it even features wonderful renditions of The Beatles "Yesterday" and Dave Brubeck's famous "Take Five".

He performed around the Boston area when I was a kid with George Abdo's band.
I used to see the band perform at the (now gone) Averof in Cambridge Massachusetts.
You can hear his fantastic drumming skills on George Abdo's "The Joy Of Belly Dancing"
"More Belly Dancing with George Abdo" and "The Art of Belly Dancing".
He's my earliest influence, and I still love to hear his old records.
He and his wife now live in Maine and put on music and dance events there.

They wanted an arabic feel for some of the songs so they got Faisal, David Martinelli, Ava Nahas (who's currently in Egypt playing with Raquy and Saiid el Artist... WooHoo) and myself to be an arabic percussion section. We are not on the CD version of the songs, Maybe
the next one :-)

Our aim is not to "act out" the song or trivialize it into a series of story-telling gestures. Our aim -- and it s quite difficult -- is to find movements that can somehow contain and transmit the feeling and mystery of the song itself.

The beauty and depth of this song is what carries us through the difficult passage of its containment and transmission.
The Armenian Duduk is said to be the oldest instrument in the world.
Made from the heart of the apricot tree, it's one of the most hauntingly beautiful sounds to hear in a musical instrument.
I'm amazed at how much contemporary music is featuring this instrument.
Many years ago, I first noticed Peter Gabriel featuring it on his recording of Passion.
In recent years I've heard it in everything from figure skating, car commercials, and mostly movies and t.v. soundtracks.
Today I'm remembering a great, wonderful friend of mine, Grigor Jinian.
He passed away 2 years ago. He was my best friend, and the most incredible musician I'd ever heard.
Grigor was a classically trained vilolinist from Yerevan, Armenia. I met him here in Atlanta when he moved here from California in 1994. I first met him in 2000.
Grigor could play any kind of music, Gypsy was where his mastery worked its magic.
Any of my music friends who heard him play were blown away. My favorite memory is when a key-boardist we were auditioning, heard him play for the first time, looked at me, blood draining from his face, and said "this guy plays like the devil." I laughed my ass off.
I was always proud of him, I admired him so much.
Grigor was my friend, a father-figure, teacher and my mentor.
He was such a Master musician, his power was huge, it was like having Superman as a best friend.
I think of Grigor all the time, I miss him today and wanted to continue to remember him.
