Can we have a hideous costume competition? Not rating the dancing... just the costuming. I found one that could probably be described as "black and yellow bile." What will you throw on the pile?

I'm working on a website for a showcase, so I won't link to video and risk making dancers angry... but I will share with people who would appreciate it.

Is there some law that all cabaret dancers must have at least one costume that makes them look like a sequined traffic cone?

Bright orange isn't really flattering on *anyone* and yet it seems like all these dancers make sure they have a costume in this color in their wardrobe. My eyes cried out in pain from going through way too many photos of these costumes... My loving boyfriend even brought me a shot glass and bottle of tequila to help ease the pain.

Hey, I have a bright (I mean NEON!!!) orange cab bra/belt. I mostly wear it to embarass my hubby ;) Can I see the link since I am obviously one of the sadly affected?

Hmmm...Anne Soffee in her book Snake Hips talks about the glory of godawful costumes. Apparantly, the flashier and gaudier the bedlah, the more desireable it is considered to be by some dancers.

LOL that's why I got into tribal.

Although my Mata Hari costume wormed its way into my soul and now my head is turned by flashy rhinestones when I would have gone 'ew' before...LOL

My problem is that when I see most cabaret costumes close up I hate them, but forget that they often look great onstage. And then of course when I make my own stuff I make it too subtle and you can't see the details at all. :P
