That is NOT fair for them. teaching them incorrectly, and then posting as "sexy swedish bellydance" Putting them into a sterotype that we fight against every day. I bet they went to her and said " we want to dance like Shakira" and lo and behold... this is what came of it.
Shame on the teacher.
Some of them look quite young... -

I see no where in my original post where I was laughing at the girls, I said that it was the EYE BLEACH for the earlier post I had made of the ASS SHOT of the "sexy belly dancer" Meaning that it wasnt so bad.
So I dont know why you are so upset about it being posted, not one person on this thread was rude, condecending, or laughing at ONE of those dancers. It was light watching, in responce to another post. A reminder that we all start somewhere, and that somewhere seems to be flying away with wrist circles on a regular basis.

Mon, May 5, 2008 - 6:48 AMI have seen baby bellies who start out looking very much like that who had good teachers, and I've seen them improve over time. They're baby bellies. No matter how much their teachers drill them on certain types of moves ("slow circles....SLOW circles"), they are bound to get nervous, and when they get nervous, sometimes they go into high speed mode.
I thought this forum was for funny vids of non-bellydancers posing to be bellydancers--not baby bellies, and that's why I said something. Of course, I keep seeing more and more postings of actual bellydancers who just don't fit the norm rather than the posers. Kinda sucks the fun out of the tribe to me. -

SHAME on that teacher for ALLOWING or making these girls dance in public. SHAME on that teacher for picking that song, or allowing the girls to pick that song.
As for bellydancers not fitting the norm... no one fits the "norm" any more.
I could go off on that too... but I'm done.
My point in posting this video was out of pure fun, to make up for a horrible vid that I posted earlier (apparently you didnt see it...it was BAD, so bad they removed it). this is A video that I am quite sure that each and every one of us could relate to. Sometimes you need to look at the motive behind, and not freak out over someone "picking" on baby bellies... why??? we were all baby bellies at one time. Some of us still are. Its sad that teachers feel the need to feed into the crap that people already think about bellydance, but here it is. If not in the title, then in the music and dance movements that look so painful and not ready for performance, and the looks of absolute horror on the girl's faces.

Tue, May 6, 2008 - 4:01 AMya i doubt it was the teacher who posted that though. i am guessing an adiance member who taped it. maybe one of the baby belly's bf? shes taking a class he's proud and thinks shes hot and sexy and doesn't know any better. at least not yet.
now the hands? ya thats her fault. but i am pretty sure she didn't tape that. who knows though. and maybe she doesn't speak enough english to get the silliness of what she is having them dance to. or maybe shes just lame and shouldn't be teaching. or who knows maybe its a baby belly troop a bunch of students formed. sigh who knows. but wow i am makeing excuses for them, lol.

Some good self-critique might clear some of that right up. It's amazing what you think looks good until you see it on tape. -

Mon, May 5, 2008 - 8:16 AMI honestly hope that these are baby-bellies, but the sad reality is that I've seen "troupes" that get paid for dancing just like this, with people in the troupe that have been dancing for years and are still dancing like that. There are teachers out there that do teach their students to do wrist circles like that and never pay attention to arm movement, just placement.
Honestly, I am a baby-belly and I've gotten to see videos of previous performances (only once in public) to see what has improved and what needs more work (and I still think I suck), but our teacher doesn't put us in a public performances until we get the courage to do that. I love her for it. If we do end up on youtube, I'll be the first to post it here. ;)
