Rose Festival

Arpeggio has been invited back to the Rose Festival Waterfront performance. The details are simple...

If you are interested, you will have a solo piece (unless you are uncomfortable with that)
If you would rather have a duet with a friend that you can write on your own time, Please feel free
I would like to have atleast ONE group piece of mostly simple layered movements and phrases. (I still have that huge piece of purple arial fabric that made a great prop. Would like to use that for sure!!)

Pieces would be comprised of dance and equipment work. Dont do equipment?? Dance pieces are great!

Please let me know if you are interested in this act of public art!!!

Whirl-wind World

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Arpeggio World is a new organization that has been struggling to find its place in this world for the first year of its existance. Not only have we been dragging people out of the woodworks to create a cast for the upcoming season, but we have also struggled with financial elements that have restricted our creativity.

Arpeggio was founded on the ideal of community involvement and creativity in the northwest fashion. We are striving to be trend-setters in the colorguard world and that means surviving by any means necessary, which in the last year has meant supporting our foundation through the board members and the marching members very shallow pockets. We understand that colorguard in this region was intensely modified by the standard set by our predecessors, Everybody Winterguard and Northern Lights, more dominantly by the latter. In an ideal world, colorguard would be an activity supported entirely by the foundation which holds the name. But in the 'real' colorguard world, marching members are required to pay a fee for the season which would ideally include costumes, equipment, travel and housing expenses, rehearsal space, a guard floor and any other staging accessories.

At this time, if we were to ask our members (or lack there of) for their seasonal fee, it would be astoundingly high. As trend-setters in this activity, we feel that paying $1000 or more for one season is unfair and at most times, quite impossible to afford. It is for this very reason that Arpeggio World will be on competitive hiatus for the duration of the 2008 season.

Now, we understand that this news may not be as upsetting to some of you as it is for our staff and current members. We also acknowledge the disappointment of those few who were looking forward to having an accessible colorguard to perform with in Portland. On that note, we would like to express a sincere apology. This is not a permanent state of existence for Arpeggio.

On a happier note, please understand that Arpeggio will still be providing performance opportunities in the northwest commuity in order to stay active and aware of who is out there and just waiting for some thing to do.

In the next year, our intentions as an organization are to solidify our financial situations in order to provide a comfortable and affordable environment in which colorguard is just simply that... plain ol' fashioned good-fun-to-be-had colorguard.
Stay in contact with Arpeggio here on myspace, as we will be updating constantly regarding performance opportunities and fundraising functions. As of right now, we would like to offer our first winter fundraising opportunity.

We have been offered a performance slot of one half hour with University of Oregon and their private Christmas party on December 8th. Arpeggio is looking for individuals interested in doing an ensemble flag section and perhaps a short holiday themed movement section and any person interested in performing a solo. We will most likely only have a few rehearsals on a saturday or two in November. Times and location will be disclosed upon the expressed interest of the performing individuals. Please notify Arpeggio by November 10th at the very latest. If we do not have interest, we will be forced to cancel the appearance.

In closing, we would like to thank everyone that has given time and energy to our infant ensemble and we look forward to renewing relationships and engaging in new ones. Peace and health to you.

Arpeggio Auditions

A big thank you to Samantha and Leanne and Liberty High School for making our auditions possible. Samantha and Leanne joined Arpeggio during the Saturday audition where they indulged in a rigorous body class and moved right on to learning a flag phrase... And then going with us to the Rose City Rollers derby and performing their newly gained knowledge for a crowd of a couple hundred screaming derby fans. Right on, ladies! Thats doin it hardcore Arpeggio style.

For all the fraidy-cats in the crowd, fret not, for we are having another audition camp next month, so IF YOU LOVE TO PERFORM COME TO ARPEGGIO WORLD GUARD AUDITIONS.

Arpeggio Winter Guard

The choreographic pallet is an imaginative mélange of sophisticated, elegant and flowing movements. Precious few groups have achieved what Arpeggio Dance Company has done. The medley of colors as the flags overlap among dancers who flit and jump around the stage looks like a moving painting.
