I have been blessed with a few mathematical birthdays lately. My last factorial birthday (24=4!) 4 years ago, a square birthday at 25=5^2 the following year, even a rare cubic birthday (27=3^3) last year. Yet 2006 remains profoundly unmathematical. 28=2*2*7. Very Bland.

Perhaps this is a just compensation for the excessive amounts of mathematical, computational, meterological and paleoclimatological pains I am going through these days, which I will not dwell on here.

Suffice it to say : it is my birthday, hurray ! The 28th of the kind. The 2nd, only, since I've been reborn under the skin of a Burner. Therefore what a better way to celebrate it than to throw a party with and for the benefit of my Burning Man family, Disorient ? (www.disorient.com)

Those of you are part of it hardly need any other reason... and only very few of you can afford not to have been extensively briefed about it, if you have known me for more than 2 (Julian) days .

As we prepare for our annual trip to the Nevada desert, there is a lot of brain-rattling, a lot of head-scratching, a lof of closet-searching, a lot of bus-revamping (last year at least), and a lot of wallet-clearing going on... Yes, distributing musical joy in the middle of the Nevada desert ain't a free endeavor, and we need all the resources we can get to set up a great camp with ground-breaking light sculptures, elegant shade structures, floor-shaking soundsystem and fantastic DJs.

Therefore, I invite you all to get a taste of that joy :

the space is quite fun... but don't get lost : downstairs is no less shady than a strip club ! The party will be upstairs. At the door, mention my name, or Disorient's , otherwise you might be mistakenly repelled as a strip-club goer trying to ogle (or worse !) at our hot girls dancing.

WHO: There will be dancers, thinkers, talkers, smokers and breathers. Bankers, composers, visionaries, yoginis, doers, slackers, noise-makers, image-tweakers, venture-capitalists, red communists, green environmentalists, polluters, lawyers, outlaws, people defying categorization, people categorized by their need to defy. There might even be some scientists, but they won't be more scary that I am . And of course there will be you, and anyone you may want to bring there.
That means anybody you think might enjoy the event - civilized, respectful, wild souls - friends you would feel fine catching as they fall, or people you would trust to catch you if you ever felt like falling.

HOW MUCH : There will be a 7$ cover and blinky sales at the door. Eh, it's a fundraiser ! And without that I could never organize a big enough party to see all of you.

If, really, you must insist on making a birthday gift, please buy a blinky at the door. It will make me very happy to see you blink, and all benefits will go to the camp.
