Ok so assuming these kids went thru the local art classes in this area, they should have had perspective in middle school
so now I have to review perspective with them
my plan is just some exercises no real assignment
since this really should just be review
but I do want the work to be different
not the same thing buildings on a street, or the road dissapearing into the dessert
I found a great 4 point perspective floating museum and letter forms thing
and my plan was for the kids to do an extreme perspective drawing of???
WHAT?
I was thinking a forshortened body but that seems like that really should fit in with some life drawing/figure drawing and not perspective
and like I was saying IF theyve been in this school disptrict like most have since birth they have already done the name 1 point, and the street corner 2 point
this is review, and this group is not well managed so they wont do something if they have already done it or find it "lame"
so I have to maintin interst some how
(BTW Im student teaching)
my current plan
Art 1 does 1 and 2 point perspective--1 point is a 2 part lesson, part A vanishing point= zooming letters, or birds eye view of city type thing part B add the horizon line
the exs are analyze a 1 point photo draw on the HL, VP and orthogonal lines, draw shapes w/VP, and the draw a box on a plane w/ HL and VP
Art 2 does 1-3 point perspective
Studio art (3+) 1-4 point
maybe I should just have them use their name, or 3 initials--like I said review so I dont want then to spend too long on it, or Ill never got to another lesson-- in each perspective, letting them get more complicated each time......

Perspective update
Mon, May 1, 2006 - 9:56 PMThey were pretty much clueless
I was afraid of repeating what the middle school teacher should have done'no worries
found out the middle school teacher is one of those that doesnt really get perspective herself so didnt really teach it
I could have/should have made the excersizes more detailed
and taken way more time to go over things
I dont know why I even bothered asking them if there were any Qs
they didnt even know where to begin to ask
With the art 2 kids they pi$$ed me off when I was going over 3 point so I just said Fine you know it, do it, Im not wasting my time on this if you understand already
they didnt know it
and I let them hurt and struggle
I told a few of them that next time they needed to just keep their mouths shut, and let me explain, because if they really did know it then they would be able to do it, and based on the samples they were turning in, they obviously did not
any way
when I teach this next year
we go into detail on this, not just a supplimental lesson to keep them occupied
I must be wierd I did perspective and optical line linear/plane drawings for fun when I was their age
oh well
