do you have any? have you done some? Not me! maybe I will someday. In the mean time show me yours, or anyone elses you might like. and it could be something other than paper, generally the same technique though= as in a framework covered with layers of paper, cloth, etc gooed with goo of some sort and painted over or finished with some kinda colory textury stuff. In the pictures.

Re: Paper Mache
Fri, June 8, 2007 - 6:56 AMWe have something called planterpalooza in a local town here. I want to make a planter that looks like tree bark. It is a huge planter. Porbably 3 feet high and 2 wide. It's made of heavy duty plastic. Do you think paper mache would make for good tree bark? I have never worked with it before and am at a loss as to what to use. -

Re: Paper Mache
Fri, June 8, 2007 - 10:05 AMI don't think so, even if you used a acrylic medium it would fall apart with weathering & rain. Stucco or plaster, try sreening or poltry wire and plaster or stucco, you'll have to screw the screening to the plastic, or use rivets, small carrige bolts..
Sounds interesting, could be heavy.
Fibre glass.
If it doesn't have to last, paper mache could work and you would need the wire screening to attach it to the plastic tub.
Show us what you come up with. -

Re: Paper Mache
Fri, June 8, 2007 - 12:21 PMafter posting, I checked in on it and I missed the application deadline already...GRRRRRRR
Oh well, now I have a whole year to test out my ideas. I will be sure to post pictures if I do start anything, but I'm such a procrastinator I have no idea when it may be. Thanks for your thoughts. By the way, they do spray some sort of finish on them once they are finished and turned in. -

Re: Paper Mache
Mon, July 30, 2007 - 11:19 AMYears back in Portland I helped build floats for the Rose festival, using paper mache for such as heads and hands.
Great for constructing large, yet lightweight features.
we framed in wire, clamped chicken wire for surface base, or carved styrafoam to mache upon.
