"The display of Schvarts’ project will feature a large cube suspended from the ceiling of a room in the gallery of Green Hall. Schvarts will wrap hundreds of feet of plastic sheeting around this cube; lined between layers of the sheeting will be the blood from Schvarts’ self-induced miscarriages mixed with Vaseline in order to prevent the blood from drying and to extend the blood throughout the plastic sheeting.
Schvarts will then project recorded videos onto the four sides of the cube. These videos, captured on a VHS camcorder, will show her experiencing miscarriages in her bathrooom tub, she said. Similar videos will be projected onto the walls of the room."

Re: A Yale Art Professor in the making
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 10:21 AMWork like this which attacks a variety of issues I know has to exist but I cant help but think blimey! all that and you end up with a cube and some video projection in a gallery space.
If she wanted to simply only inspire debate I would be very very surprised. That's what shocks me more than anything else.
Personally I have a problem with accepting that level of self abuse. It is a terrible thing to witness under any circumstances. I don't think I would be able to watch the videos. -

Fri, May 2, 2008 - 11:11 AMI can go with inspired self-indulgence, but I don't think there's inspired self-abuse, no matter HOW driven one is to engage in dialogue. I'M not going to respond to consciously self-induced suffering. Try reaching out to my heart or even my brain and I'm there!
