Our current thinking about food at the camp is to concentrate on dinners, and then make sure that there's stuff around for people to grab lunch, breakfasts, and snacks. We will have an RV there and so can use the refrigerator/freezer for storage, as well as coolers; but we've tried to be very conscious about limiting how much "cold storage" place we'll be needing. This current list may well be too much, and then again there are probably some things we left out, but it's a starting point. Feedback and discussion welcome!

Re: Food thoughts
Mon, August 20, 2007 - 4:29 PMHiya - I just joined so I may have missed earlier discussion.
What is the overall model for this camp on how much infrastructure/ costs are shared vs. how much we are simply 'wagon-training'? :)
I'm leaning toward cutting this just a wee bit further and planning dinners and having snack food. Maybe having eggs & pancake mix around. I'm flexible, but also looking to having a low overhead experience next year. -

Re: Food thoughts
Mon, September 3, 2007 - 10:30 PMOthers can correct me if I'm wrong, but here's what I remember about last year - and flexibility was a huge part of our food planning activities....
We figured out how many days we were going to be out there so that we knew how many dinners we had to make. We also knew that we were going to be doing an artists reception that Tuesday night (and we wanted to have "gallery opening food" for that).
Looking at that list... I think we ended up not doing the kung pau stuff (too much work), but I do remember the mac & cheese, burritos, chili, and spaghetti. We had ice chests and a fridge (Jon had an RV), so we had salads and ice cream. We had also gathered the snacks - crackers, chips, etc. The breakfast stuff was instant oatmeal, pancakes, etc., nothing special. I don't remember the food being anything extravagant -- just tasty.
Also, Jon and I took care of the food (buying and preparing) as our camp duties. We're happy to do it again in 2008. Jon and I covered the cost of the food, because others were covering the costs of other things.
Potentially, all you have to do is tell me about any dietary restrictions you have and cover some portion of something (TBD).
Is that kind of what you had in mind?
