I'm one of the camp organizers. I live in SF, (but currently in Loving County, TX population 67). I went to some burns on Baker Beach in the 80's and again in 2004. We've got a great core group and we are looking forward to attracting some great art to the playa that otherwise wouldn't make it out there. We can't wait to see people's work and meet people who may want to join the camp.

    Greetings!

I'm another of the founding members of Artspace, and have the ignomious distinction of being the only one who has never been to a burn. I'm super excited to experience it all for the first time with my tribe-mates old and new.

And I'm really looking forward to the challenge of creating a truly outstanding gallery on the Playa.

    Cheers!

redbones my name, doing arts my game! I do ceramics and printmaking and what ever else I can find the time to dabble in- video, digital photography, casting bronze, silkscreening, and most recently stencil/graffitti art. Im a fith year burner this year, so Im planning many things to bestow unto my fellow playa people. The past few years Ive made ceramic medallions to gift, which Im doing more of this year.
oh yeah, Im a highschool art teacher too. ...word!

I'm another of the artspacers. This year will be my second time on the playa, having gone with some of these folks back in 2004.

I'm not much of an artist myself (more comfortable with a calculator in my hand than a brush). Through burning man, and the people I've met because of it, my deeply felt love of art has grown exponentially. I am dedicated to facilitating other peoples art this year and look forward to meeting and interacting with the artists and art-lovers alike.

      Me too.

I have my artistic moments, but mostly I'm good at "behinds the scenes" stuff. I like to work on the things that are not obviously noticeable, except when you notice them. ;)

I love the idea of having a gallery on the playa and can't wait to work with everyone to make it happen.

Since I'm at least occasionally arty and spacy, so I guess that makes me an Artspacer ... thus far I'm the only non-SF person in the group, being based mostly in the Seattle area. My idea of camping is a hotel where room service stops at 10 p.m. (how primitive!) so when I went to Burning Man in 2004, a friend and I rented an RV and turned it into the Divamobile. Apparently my experience was somewhat atypical -- when people say "playa food", I think of asparagus crepes, prosciouto-wrapped prawns, and Ghiradelli caramels stored in the freezer.

I'm really psyched about the idea of Artspace ... not just because it can bring together a bunch of art that otherwise wouldn't get enough attention, but also because I also think it will help reinforce the focus on art that both "works" in a Burning Man context _and_ in the "real world" where we spend a large chunk of our time. Plus it'll be fun!

    Hello,
My name is Kambra and myself and my partner Amy are looking for a small group of good floks to camp with this year. This will be my third year, I went in 2003 and 2004. Last year I was busy moving to Ukiah so I couldn't make it. This year will be Amy's first year and she is a bit intemindated by the huge population. She says that it is all out of her comfort zone, but at the same time she is excited and really interested in the self-expression part of it all. I'm hoping to find a smallish group of folks to camp with who might want to cook together and have a nice shaddy communal space to hang out together, apply sunscreen and take care of each other on a regular basis. Perhaps you would like our extra energy towards your project.
I have some photographs that I'm interested in displaying at artspace. And am interested in helping display smaller art.
What is your vision for the camp? Where do you want to be? How amny folks do you expect to be camping with you? Are there any plans for meals? Shade? Communal space?
    Kambra

      Kambra,

Yes, we are good folks! I'm guessing the camp will be about twenty people. (It is not necessary to camp with us to display art with us.) Keeping the camp to twenty will allow us more flexibility in placement. (There are size restrictions in the Plazas and near Center Camp.) I'm not sure where we will request yet, but regardless, they can stick us anywhere they choose. I may be able to tell you what we will request in a week, but we won't be formally placed until July. LLC has expressed interest in our concept, so that may help us get good placement.

We are tentatively planning what will be a new communal meal experiment for us. For dinners, there will be a communally planned menu, and communally purchased ingredients, but rather than assigning cooking and cleaning duties each night, we are just going to have it so that anyone can go in on any given night and get the ball rolling. We hope that it will result in meal preparation that is both more of a community activity (instead of waiting on a couple of people to do all the cooking on a given night) as well as a gift to your fellow campmates. The potential downside is that some people could end up doing a disproportionate amount of work, but we have a good core group and don't expect it to be a big problem. (Breakfast and lunch you will be on your own, but there will be a communal kitchen available and you know how people tend to share out there.)

We have a large dome that will be a communal shade space. We eat our meals there and chill. (It is not for camping in.) We will also have a communal shower and evap pond, but you are responsible for your own shower water. We have one small, quiet generator. Electricity priorities are, in order: lighting art in the gallery, dome needs (lighting, music, kitchen, etc.), needs of the generator owner, needs of everyone else. There should be power to spare so long as you aren't charging an art car or something. There will be camp dues to help cover artspace construction and transport. The dues have not been determined yet, but will be between $50 and $150 a person.

We are looking forward to seeing your photography! We are probably limiting display space to one piece per artist. Display space will be guaranteed to camp members.

    Hi,

I'm Hedy... I plan on submitting a piece to Artspace. I'm an assemblage artist living in Philadelphia, and 2006 will be my second burn. I really look forward to participating so much more this year, now that I know "how it all works!" Thanks Artspace crew for putting together what looks like an awesome camp/gallery!

Hey y'all, What up? I'm a fine art photographer living in Ashland, Oregon, heading to my fifth Burn. I've got some crazy fine art pics of outdoor scenics and Burning Man. I always bring a bunch of photos and cards to gift on the Playa and would love to hang a pic or two in your cool camp.

You can view a few of my BM pics as well as some outdoor scenics in my profile album. And my web site (in progress) is www.newmanimages.com.

      Thanks for creating this camp!
