Our current thinking about food at the camp is to concentrate on dinners, and then make sure that there's stuff around for people to grab lunch, breakfasts, and snacks. We will have an RV there and so can use the refrigerator/freezer for storage, as well as coolers; but we've tried to be very conscious about limiting how much "cold storage" place we'll be needing. This current list may well be too much, and then again there are probably some things we left out, but it's a starting point. Feedback and discussion welcome!

*Dinners*

Well, I broke my wrist on the last day of BM when I got home a week later. There was a wonderful message about my art and people... but I seem to have lost it. Anyhow. the short story. I burned all the art early due to a rude person who could not find a bathroom on the playa. I freaked because I'm used to picking up litter and beer cans, but when I got the shit on my hand while cleaning up. well I lost it. The next day everything was gone. I want to thank whomever it was who sent me a email saying it was just some nutcase to lazy/stoned to find a bathroom. So the wrist is healing, boy it was hard taking down a tent with one hand. I drove to Spokane WA, then home to So. Calif with one hand. So, I hope to say thanks to the person who took the time and heart to write me. I'm not sure I'll do the 18 wheeler of wood next year. Need funding and babysitting just this small project wore me out more than I thought. So it was a good test for the megga project I was shooting for next time. Without help, don't attempt a playa project. If anyone got photos of the project at 3:15 and esplanade I'd love to see your photos. thanks Jim Stephan

Sometimes people flake. Their flakiness can be your opportunity! If you wanted to have your dimensionally smaller art displayed in the artspace gallery at Burning Man this year, but missed the cutoff for submissions, here is your last minute chance to have your work admired by the masses. You must contact us no later than Wednesday August 23rd and meet certain guidleines, including bringing your art to our camp (Esplanade and 3:00) on Monday afternoon.
artspace placement! (a.k.a. want to camp with us?)

Woo hoo, we just got our theme camp placed -- we're going to be on the Esplanade at 3:00.

We have enough space to pick up a few more people to camp with us. Camp dues will range from $225 down to $150 dollars depending upon how much time one is able to devote to helping with the construction of the gallery and other camp projects. Since we are based in San Francisco, this is where the work-weekends will be held.

Our camp will have the following amenities: our playa-tested 32 foot diameter conduit dome with a brand new, very shiny cover for shade, a shower/evap pool, dedicated cooking space, and an optional one meal a day meal plan (not included in camp dues).

Those interested in camping with us, wishing to show art with us, or just interested in helping to bring artspace to fruition please contact us at: artspace2006@yahoo.com or just reply here.

So, come camp with us, and help bring more art to the Playa!!!

I have several thousand pounds of wood that need to be moved to Burningman. If you are passing by and can take on a few pounds or a few hundred pounds let me know. I've worked it out to small boxes nice compact easy to just load and off you go. I'm located in California City so I'm off 395 and the 14. I can meet you partway so you don't have to detour, just pick up a load of wood. thanks jim

Thinking about displaying at artspace?

It is never too soon to talk to us about what you are considering displaying. Even if you haven't quite fleshed out the concept yet, it helps us to know how many people are thinking about wall hung art verses free standing art. There are (yet to be determined) limits to the size of enclosures we can build, so if you are thinking about a particularly large canvas, for example, let's work together soon to see how we can best accomodate you.

Also, please feel free to post on this tribe if you are looking for other artists to collaborate with or need advice on how to realize your ideas.

I'm one of the camp organizers. I live in SF, (but currently in Loving County, TX population 67). I went to some burns on Baker Beach in the 80's and again in 2004. We've got a great core group and we are looking forward to attracting some great art to the playa that otherwise wouldn't make it out there. We can't wait to see people's work and meet people who may want to join the camp.

It is not neccesary to join our camp to display art with us, nor do you need to be an artist to join our camp. We welcome new members. Let us know if you are looking to join the camp and we will tell you about any upcoming meetings. We meet irregularly in San Francisco and will try to post meeting minutes here for those out of town. If you don't live in the Bay Area, some other members live and travel elsewhere, so let us know where to find you. If we can't meet in person, send us a message telling us about yourself, the talents you can bring to our camp, your interest in artspace, your experience (or lack thereof) at Burning Man, etc. We look forward to hearing from you!

About 'artspace'

One of the wonderful things about the playa is the enormous canvas it presents large scale artists. Unfortunately, the vast expanse doesn't always allow smaller works to be presented at their best.

'artspace' is a new theme camp that will provide display space for dimensionally smaller art. We'll offer wall, pedestal, and installation space with lighting, labels, and protection from the elements.

Our goal for 'artspace' is provide a home on the playa for smaller art pieces, in a space where they won't be dwarfed by the larger pieces. By displaying these works together, many more people will be able to see and appreciate them in a space that will show them off to their best advantage.

'artspace' is currently seeking artists who would like to display their art with us, people who would like to join our camp, and benefactors who would like to contribute to the success of 'artspace'.
