Looking for dancers for a 9/4 showcase

Hi, everyone --

I'm putting together a small showcase at 7 p.m. at Laguna Beach Books (1200 S. Pacific Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach) to go along with a booksigning event for my novel, THE BELLY DANCER.

I have a couple of dancers committed so far, but there's room for a few more.

The dancing will take place in front of the shop, much like they did at my Book Release Party at Merry's in Long Beach (you can see photos here: http://www.meetup.com/OC-Bellydance-Connection/photos/672471/

tantric temples are like a note book you can learn a lot from these temples.these templese were like a school and students were learning art of tantra. these temples were not teaching history or politics or any other time and life wasting subjects [which we learn in our modern day schools ]and these subjects which we learn in our modern schools are not usefull in our life because they only teach us competetion,power trips ,greed and all type of negativity.thats why so much terrorism ,fighting ,negativity is happening in these modern days but these temples were teaching the art of tantra which is very useful in our daily life to bring ,joy , abundance,compassion in the life so we can live our life 24 hours celebrating in peace and harmony

Just when I thought my day had fallen into the crapper... came home and the mail was here. my DVD was there!!! YAY!!!!

If I didn't have kids and dishes and dinner to deal with, I would be watching it right now!

Made the fact that my horse got her foot stuck in the fence, and no one called or noticed ALL DAY.... it made it better...

(horse is fine, she was hungry and upset... but for an old gal... she sure is spunky!)

A few men and 40 dancers sat in a circle cleansing themselves with holy smoke and rosewater. It was hot. Floor fans blew hot air through the wide, open room. Goat skin lanterns made shadows and pools of amber light as sounds of a steady drum and a primitive flute called us to trance. Sweet smoke mixed with anticipation. It was all an experiment. And then it happened. The story of the penis thieves was told. No one knew what to make of it? Some giggled. Others puzzled. Others seemed to grok. But it was fun and thought-provoking. And people bonded as they talked about it. The story of the penis thieves was an instant cult classic. It had to be a tribe.

Eco Couture

Hi, I'm seeking like minds.

I grew up designing and making my own clothes since a little girl, and apprenticed with Mirage in Melbourne, Australia’s largest CMT house for major Oz designers; before studying fine art at Heatherleys in London. I was also sponsored by Mirage and a runner-up in the Australian Fashion Awards. Then I traveled and lived in a few different countries and got into planet activism and events, then running an online arts community, then helping manage festivals. Now current fashion has caught up with the designs in my head and the ideals in my heart and I recently returned to designing eco-friendly wearable art.

The stuff I’m now designing and reconstructing are Eco Couture, individual one-off’s made from recycled and vintage fabrics. My design skills are coming back and improving with each collection batch. Sketches and photos of recent experiments are up at http://www.recycledfordancing.com plus I already have clothes in 2 boutiques, addresses are on the site under Retail Stores.

I also do custom stage gear; before working on festivals full time I actually did costumes for Music TV dancers, musicians, and theatre. I had a few designs on national TV way back when, on long running music TV show called Countdown. And I designed costumes for a whole Bertolt Brecht play at the Chelsea Playhouse in London, plus whole wardrobes for nightclub dancers and contemporary cabaret, and fire dancers for festivals in Byron Bay.

My current designs are inspired by San Francisco and Japanese street fashion, as well as European Couture and Burning Man. For me it is sculpture using textiles with a wearable framework and chaos, I take something that I see and mix it with something else that I see, each piece inspiring the next piece. On Sunday my car was broken into at Pride. I lost everything. My ipod, camera, new rollybag, my notebook, calendar, clothes, jewelry and...
my UNMATA necklace.
Everything else I can replace over time. But my UNMATA Necklace!!!!!!!
It was taken in San Francisco.
Here's what I'm thinking...This is a powerful piece of jewelry and it may show itself so I can find it. I figure I have a few hundred people on my side in the city that know the necklace or the symbol.
Please keep your eyes open and if you see one, it's mine. Offer to buy the necklace from whoever for whatever it costs and I will reimburse.

My solo...

Here is my little solo to Nox Arcana/Collide. I feel pretty happy with it. I've done my usual "rip it apart to find more reasons to torture myself during practice" critiquing. Despite a few places I found to be a little sloppy, I like it and the most important part was that it was just plain fun. That and the scaring small children part. heehee.

Like a tomb. Where is everyone?? I went to East Coast Classic this weekend and competed. Little did I know that what they wanted to see was traditional caberet performances. I disqualified myself because I do the fusion and I danced to Nox Arcana/Collide. Ooops. I wouldn't have done it any different, though. I love my solo and I worked really hard on it and it felt GOOD. If I wasn't the black sheep I guess I wouldn't feel right. I also managed to terrify a few small children in the process and some grown ups too. :-D

I found this little ditty on YouTube and found it to be quite amusing and just a little torturous. Watch all the way to the end now, no matter how bad your retinas burn.

Gothic Tribal Fusion Bellydance Workshop Description:

Decapitation, Dismemberment & Entrails
Evil little drill combinations for Gothic Tribal Fusion Belly Dance
In this workshop, you will learn three wicked drill combinations which focus on the different movement groups important to creating a strong and effective Gothic Belly Dance style. Badriya is very proud to present the second annual manifestation of Raks Spooki, a hafli dedicated to exploring the darker side of belly dance. Gothic belly dance has become an increasingly popular form of belly dance in New England in the last several years, as was made very evident by the strong response to the first Raks Spooki, held in October 2006. The strong sense of community that grew out of that event has kept its momentum with subsequent events, Tribe groups, classes and workshops in gothic belly dance, vendors catering to gothic styles, etc. This year's event promises to be even more exciting than last year's, with dancers from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut and beyond participating. Together we represent the darker side of New England, home to H.P. Lovecraft, Edward Gorey and Stephen King. Performers will include local favorites, new performers, and special guests Sashi and Tempest, who are on the forefront of gothic belly dance internationally. There will be several vendors present with every item a gothic belly dancer could desire, from corset belts to chainmail to scented oils to tribal hair ornaments and of course Eye Kandy glitter!

All proceeds from the hafli will be donated to Women for Women, a non-profit which helps women in war-torn regions of the world get back on their feet and start rebuilding their lives. Currently, they are focused on Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, Kosovo, Rwanda, Colombia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nigeria and Democratic Republic of the Congo. Some of these are places where our dance movements, costuming and jewelry come from. Using what women of the world have given us from our relative place of peace and safety, we can make real differences in the lives of other women. We can use our freedoms to help them gain their own freedom from war, poverty and injustice.

This is what my daughter said when we were watching the dvd today.
a very creepy but pretty angel. Out of the mouth of my sweet 8 year old, who when she was born, I swore I had given birth to satan, as her eyes were so dark, you couldnt see the pupil. They are still pretty dark, but not as much now... =)

So what we've been going on for about a week now that I have 666 friends and suddenly I have 665! WTF? Ok, let’s start the conspiracy theories...

1) Tribe is really run by the Christian right (wrong) and freaked out about the 666 because numbers really scare them....

2) Someone saw the movie Pi too many times and has gone off the Kabalistic deep end...

3) One of my minions is playing a joke on me and left the fold....not smart...do you know how hard it will be to get back in? Shame on you....

4) Someone got in trouble for not being able to spell Ascend right and left out of embarrassment....

5) When Tempest left for Hong Kong today she took all the evil with her and some of mine since maybe some of it cohabitates....out of wedlock....

Anyone else care to speculate?
