At least now there will be one regular weekly spin in Asheville!!
I'm just going to start doing it. If anybody else has that time available, and you want to spin, or learn how to do cool things with fire props... specifically poi, snakes, staff, double staff, and eventually triple (two doubles with one contact - ideally) and quad staff once I get the props made... then you should come out!
Mondays at 1pm in the gravel lot by the river district bridge, between the train tracks and the Wedge brewery. The lot is behind Terpsicorps studios if you know where that is. I know it's an odd time, but it works for me, and I want to practice regularly anyway...so I'll be there.
I'll be next to a green honda accord with a roof rack...with some type of techno blasting :)
peace
--oh! And, I would love to learn from anybody how to do quad poi routines/moves. I can conceptualize it in my head, but i've never seen it before. If you know...we can do a skillz trade!

Re: Weekly Spins in Asheville
Tue, December 16, 2008 - 11:15 AMAlas, I will never be able to make these due to work, yuck, I'd rather be spinning with Taz. The age old winter questions arises for those of us who work during the two or three hours of semi-warmth that happens during the winters of NC. Is there any place with high ceilings, relatively free of the elements where we can practice in the late afternoons or evenings? Indoors and without fire. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought a house with 7 foot ceilings. Any ideas? If we rented a space say for 10-20 bucks an hour for a night or two a week, who might be willing to chip in? As the spin jams are so erratic (sometimes 40 of you come and other times two) I would like those willing to commit to help pay and I could secure us the future of traditions old site or research other areas that might be willing to put up with us. Anyone in? I know that there is not much worse than the feeling of a hard staff slapping near frozen knuckles. -

Re: Weekly Spins in Asheville
Mon, December 22, 2008 - 6:46 AMI'd be willing to chip in but the only day I have free to practice is Friday nights or Saturdays until 5pm. So if it's on a day that works, I'll be happy to help pay for an indoor space... -

Re: Weekly Spins in Asheville
Mon, December 22, 2008 - 8:55 AMSo I was hanging out with Leslie, the queen of the mothership, yesterday and asked about the mothership space. She said we could use it for trade, like doing a little work around the place or for a fee of maybe 40 bucks or so a month. It is not ideal as you would have to build a fire in the woodstove, there are no mirrors, and it can sometimes be a little junky in there, although Joe has left so not as junky. The ceilings are high but not real high. A gym would be better. What about sat. afternoons around say 1:00-3:00. I am still looking. Would this time work for Samit'e? Anyone else want to go in on space? Come on fire tribe. It would be fun just for the fellowship. -

Mon, December 22, 2008 - 3:46 PMi am down for saturday afternoons. down to throw down also. I'm less excited about the mothership, though I've never seen it cleared out/clean, so i might be in to it if the space is allright. Mirrors would be ideal though...a wall of em.

Re: Weekly Spins in Asheville
Tue, December 23, 2008 - 9:21 AMI'm down for that time on Saturdays. We might find some mirrors at a recycled junkyard or Habitat for cheap...I'll have my Habitat colleague keep a look out if we want to commit to that space. I've never been to the Mothership, because apparently I'm really lame and have no social life.

Re: Weekly Spins in Asheville
Tue, December 23, 2008 - 6:30 PMThought about Terpsicorps? in the river district. I've rented it out before with Melmac to do some spin practice. There are mirrors there, on the other hand though, the space isn't huge. BUT! there is a stereo with good speakers! :) And a water fountain.
I don't know about the studio's schedule either, Saturday might already be regularly booked.

Re: Weekly Spins in Asheville
Tue, December 23, 2008 - 7:05 PMyeah, i did think about that place, formerly future of tradition. Unifire used to practice there back in the day. I think it goes for about $10 an hour. I would feel good if I could get in a couple of hours a week. Anyone know that phone number? I can check with mel. I also thought about the Parks and Recreation Dept and went to thier website. There are tons of recreation centers in this town but all of them said you had to call the center itself and I haven't done that yet. Might be a good option. I'll be out at the Chrysillis Landing tom., and will check on this place as well. Need to Spin. What's x-mas night looking like for everyone? Anyone want to have hot tub church? Lately my social calendar has been eating up the Sundays.
