It seems the chatter here has died down to nothing and I realize that due to all the problems tribe.net was experiencing, most people went over to facebook. What if we let this one die and started one there? If you still check this site let me hear from you and your opinion. It seems like we have a lot of folks on here that don't even live anywhere near asheville as well. Maybe I will screen the next one better, You guys want to have another spin jam at the pirate cove? Let me know about that too. I'll give it a couple of weeks to hear from you.

Other News-Jesse and I will be teaching another workshop at ABSfest this year. You can register online at barakamundi.com/absfest under workshops. This will cover...History of Fire Performance, Safety, Permits, Tool Construction and instruction in the art of staff and Poi with a time to try them out.. Register today.

I am also willing to teach fire eating for anyone who want to learn for a fee of $25 for an hour and a half of training. You will be eating fire before you go. If you can get more than 5 at once the fee would go down to a mere $15 bucks a person. I'll teach tongue transers, torch holds, and a few other tricks as well. The same is offered for classes on intermediate and beginer staff/double staff. Need some money for tooth repair.

One last thing-I realize that new performers just love performing but if someone performs for free, it hurts all of us. Please demand compensation for you skillz. I know that recently we were cut out of a $400 gig because someone else told them they would do it for free. If we ever have a hope of making a living off our art and being even minimally compensated for all the work and money and potential danger...We have got to quit selling ourselves short.

Please do not perform in public without obtaining a permit from the Fire Marshall. This could destroy fire performance once and for all in this town. I have recently heard of fire performers in this town spinning on porches of old houses, nearly setting a passing girls hair on fire and losing thier poi in a very dry field. All the while they had no safety equipment and no safety. If you have an accident, we all suffer. Remember Great White in Boston. If you have tried to get an indoor permit since that time you know how this can hurt us all. Please do not perform without a safety, a fire extinguisher, and wet towels. Guard you fuel station well and have it so that you cannot hit it with a lost tool. Never involve an audience member and have a designee to work crowd control and For god sakes...Please do not perform while under the influence of mind altering substances. Give them to me instead. Okay enough lecturing. It is important though.

  • Yay! When are these workshops?? I recently got a brief tutorial on fire eating and have been wanting to try it so badly ever since then, this is perfect! I'd love to sign up for the beginner staff workshop too.....
    • ok, just went to barakmundi site, then absfest site. I only want to take the fire workshop, but the only way to register on their site is to sign up for 5 workshops at a package deal. Can I sign up with you Daniel, and sign up for the 30 min fire eating workshop too?
      • Yeah, you should just be able to sign up for one. This will be an informative workshop with an empahasis on safety and performance and you can just drop in and I will make sure you get in. The cost for that is $20 I think and it is on the 14th. of June and will be a part of ABSfest. Their will be no lessons on fire eating and their will be rudimentary tutorials on staff and poi and you will leave with lots of great resources to take you as far as you want to go. The fire eating thing is just a one-on one deal I am offering and is not a part of ABSfest. Just looking to make some extra money doing something I love like teaching people fire eating. You can call me and we will arrange a time. I will give you an hour and half of training on fire eating in a very safe way for 25 bucks. If you can get a few more peoples interested, I will drop down the price for a group rate. I can almost certainly guarantee you will be eating fire before you leave, unless you are some kind of spaz. LOL The staff deal is the same price and amount of time. Staff is something that takes loads of practice but I can get you started real good in an hour and a half, let you try out a lot of staffs and if we both feel good, let you light up under my close supervision. I can also offer classes on fire devil sticks, beginning juggling, etc. Give me a call and we can set up a time and date for this...828-335-3567.

For those of you who are interested in Poi, Jesse does private lessons and is about the best damned poi spinner around. Just find hime on this site and hit him up. Melmac Pink offers hoop lesson too. For costumes with fire, hit up the Dragon Diva, Celeste. She makes the coolest fire mask around.

Word, I will just drop in for the Sunday workshop then. I'm from out of town and can only be there for the weekend so I guess the fire eating one on oner will have to wait for another trip up there. I will keep in touch about it though because I am dying to learn! Thanks
