It seems the chatter here has died down to nothing and I realize that due to all the problems tribe.net was experiencing, most people went over to facebook. What if we let this one die and started one there? If you still check this site let me hear from you and your opinion. It seems like we have a lot of folks on here that don't even live anywhere near asheville as well. Maybe I will screen the next one better, You guys want to have another spin jam at the pirate cove? Let me know about that too. I'll give it a couple of weeks to hear from you.

Other News-Jesse and I will be teaching another workshop at ABSfest this year. You can register online at barakamundi.com/absfest under workshops. This will cover...History of Fire Performance, Safety, Permits, Tool Construction and instruction in the art of staff and Poi with a time to try them out.. Register today.

I am also willing to teach fire eating for anyone who want to learn for a fee of $25 for an hour and a half of training. You will be eating fire before you go. If you can get more than 5 at once the fee would go down to a mere $15 bucks a person. I'll teach tongue transers, torch holds, and a few other tricks as well. The same is offered for classes on intermediate and beginer staff/double staff. Need some money for tooth repair.

One last thing-I realize that new performers just love performing but if someone performs for free, it hurts all of us. Please demand compensation for you skillz. I know that recently we were cut out of a $400 gig because someone else told them they would do it for free. If we ever have a hope of making a living off our art and being even minimally compensated for all the work and money and potential danger...We have got to quit selling ourselves short.

Please do not perform in public without obtaining a permit from the Fire Marshall. This could destroy fire performance once and for all in this town. I have recently heard of fire performers in this town spinning on porches of old houses, nearly setting a passing girls hair on fire and losing thier poi in a very dry field. All the while they had no safety equipment and no safety. If you have an accident, we all suffer. Remember Great White in Boston. If you have tried to get an indoor permit since that time you know how this can hurt us all. Please do not perform without a safety, a fire extinguisher, and wet towels. Guard you fuel station well and have it so that you cannot hit it with a lost tool. Never involve an audience member and have a designee to work crowd control and For god sakes...Please do not perform while under the influence of mind altering substances. Give them to me instead. Okay enough lecturing. It is important though.

And the guy that lives next door said he and his buddies got ticketed for it. Is this true? Can I really not have self-contained fires in my backyard if it's fully contained and watched with a hose nearby?? What about spinning fire- are there regulations for that? I'm kinda shocked (and feel a little like Kevin Bacon in Footloose) right now. Any thoughts/clarifications?

I've seen you guys a couple of times and you're amazing. The no-fire rule is pretty much non-negotiable so we appreciate your reassurances. We charge $10/hr for Monday-Friday before 5pm and $20/hr for evenings and weekends. The best way to see what's available is to check the online calendar. http://www.terpsicorps.org/studio/studio.html You can see what is open and what will work for you and let me know so I can get you on the calendar. If you'll be the contact person, I'll also need an address and phone number.

I've attached a contract, waiver form and studio rules so you can look them over. We do ask that all dancers sign a waiver form as our insurance will not cover injuries etc. for renters.

A lot of groups use the space and we ask everyone to be respectful of time and leave the space so it is clean, inviting and safe for the next group. The state of the floor is particularly important as many of our groups are barefoot or rolling around the floor and we don't want anyone hurt. If you come in and the space is a mess, please let me know. It happens rarely, but every once in a while a group needs a reminder.

We hope we can work something out for you. We have some really great things happening in the studio and it's great to have a space that hosts so many creative things.

Thanks,
Karen

Um, I don't think she attached the calender.. . It is double the cost after five. I could meet at 4 and if I get 3 others to commit that would be only 10 bucks a piece for a place to practice for an hour a week with mirrors. Who's in? Anyone? If other's wanted to come we could make them pay Five bucks a visit and then use the money to toward next months rent? I need three. How about Thursdays at 4 pm? I can check back and see if this is available. Come on fire tribe. This is a small price to pay for warmth, mirrors and high ceilings. Afterwards we can all go soak in the hot tub each week.

So if it is 4 it would be $5 apiece. I will probably rent the space until May or so. I am filling out and signing the contract this week and I also need someone who will could be there and be in charge of unlocking and locking the place when I am out of town as I tend to be on the weekends. (taz?) This is open to anyone who may need a warm practice space with mirrors and high ceilings. Remember this begins not this Sat. but the next one. It doesn't matter what skill level you are or even if you spin fire. I know some of the burlesque folks are coming to work on dance. If it gets so that the place is too crowded we will start a membership or something but right now it is available to all! Hurray!

At least now there will be one regular weekly spin in Asheville!!

I'm just going to start doing it. If anybody else has that time available, and you want to spin, or learn how to do cool things with fire props... specifically poi, snakes, staff, double staff, and eventually triple (two doubles with one contact - ideally) and quad staff once I get the props made... then you should come out!

Mondays at 1pm in the gravel lot by the river district bridge, between the train tracks and the Wedge brewery. The lot is behind Terpsicorps studios if you know where that is. I know it's an odd time, but it works for me, and I want to practice regularly anyway...so I'll be there.

I'll be next to a green honda accord with a roof rack...with some type of techno blasting :)
--oh! And, I would love to learn from anybody how to do quad poi routines/moves. I can conceptualize it in my head, but i've never seen it before. If you know...we can do a skillz trade!

This Friday evening we are filming part of an independent film with a scene with fire performers. I'm looking to add a few fire performers to fill out the scene, and was wondering if there's any here who might be interested.

The synopsis for our feature-length TRUMPET MY RETURN is: Newlyweds Travis and Molly, workers at a Catholic residential school for teen girls in Savannah, discover that Travis' former girlfriend Shula has been abducted halfway around the world. Gradually, their lives unravel as Travis becomes overwhelmed by his persistent memories and concerns. They both seek support and guidance from their old friend Isaac, a magician who hosts a late-night new age radio show. As Travis and Molly struggle with their relationship, student Hawthorne, a Wiccan, attempts a tenuous friendship with bipolar Ernie. Far away, Shula enters into a cautious dialogue with her captor, Ismail. Ultimately, all come to realize that there is no such thing as a casual relationship.

PLAN FOR THE FIRE PERFORMANCE SCENE IN TRUMPET MY RETURN

For Friday evening, October 3, the specifics are that we'll be at the Mothership filming fire performance, beginning at 8:15pm and going until about 10:30pm. Any fire performers who would like to join us to help with this scene will be most appreciated. The scene being filmed involves Travis and Shula having a conversation while a fire performance happens near or around them, before they move on to a drum circle. The fire will essentially light the scene and set the mood.

Now all i have to do is practice. By the way, for those who are keeping count, Jesse kicked my ass at the LAAFF show in the final round of the double staff showdown. Damn you Jesse.

Okay, we are defintely having the decompression, spin jam and hot tub fun on Sunday. If you are interested in teaching or learning new moves or are a first time spinner, I'll open up the Pirate Cove around seven which should give us a few hours of daylight. Caitlin and Taz, so sorry but I already sent out the message via phone before I came here so it is happening with or without you. Cancel whatever it is though cuz I love to see Taz spin some fire. Talk about someone who has gotten really good in a short period of time...You young whippersnappers are making me practice harder to even begin to keep up. Oh yeah, spin jam-this Sunday at the cove, bring yer tools, fuel and yer poison of choice. As the Pirate Cove is still under probabtion for excessive noise ordinance violations...Don't bring hundreds of your loud friends or Djembes. This is a chill thing, relax, spin some fire, reconnect. Cool.

As for Shows. Seduction sideshow will be performing this Saturday at Hooka Joes. This is my Burlesque Troupe and NOT my fire troupe. The next scheduled show for Unifire Theatre is at Deerfields for Trinumeral Fest. The seduction Sideshow will not have any fire spinning at the show but will have all the usual plus three openers including Old Horsey Sideshow, Bootstraps Burlesque and the Forbidden Belly Dance Troupe. Tickets are $15 bucks and doors open at 9.

If you need directions to the Pirate Cove give me a ring at 828-335-3567 or mapquest 271 Cowan Cove Rd.

Hope to see all yall out this weekend. Many of you know how bad I am with faces and how even worse I am with names so If I don't act like I recognize you it doesn't mean I don't love you, It only means I have special needs. Just remind me.

I am happy to announce that the Chill Spin Skillz Exchange will be returning to Transformus 08!

The Chill Spin Zone is a low-key, safe place for spinners and dancers of any skill level. It is both a learning and a teaching environment as well as a non-competitive play space. There will be music, workshops, classes and freeform fun throughout the weekend. Look for us in the Elyssium Fields.

The Chill Spin Zone and Skillz Exchange is brought to you by Philosopher's Stone, Bubble Camp, Ripe and Juicy and many wonderful and giving teachers from all over Mysteria. It is a unique opportunity to teach, learn, connect and share in a cooperative and safe space from a variety of amazing teachers and performers. It is also a great opportunity to make friends and build community. And the first step to organizing it is a Call For Teachers!!!

Everyone has something to teach. Everyone has something to learn.

What do you have to share? Mysteria needs you!

Please let us know what you'd be interested in sharing. If there is a time or day that's better for you, let us know that too. Once we get everyone's feedback, we will make a schedule of workshops that will be posted online as well as in the Chill Spin Zone. TITS will also be announcing upcoming workshops throughout Mysteria.

Here is a list of the workshops that were offered last year. Let's use this as a framework to build upon. Feel free to share something new and different or sign on to teach one of these amazing skills:
- Staff
- Double Staff
- Fire Fans
- Hooping
- Tribal Dance
- Poi
- Fire Eating

Please indicate what skill level you are interested in teaching (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) and sign up even if someone else has already volunteered. More is better! If there is something unique about the workshop you want to teach, give us a little information about that also.

So what do you have to share?

I am gathering all the information regarding permits and when to get them, etc. Please let me know if you have any questions for the fire marshall and I will try to get them answered here. Jesse, send me that email, thanks man.

After a long and harrowing audition process, Unifire has taken on two new members. We have been at 8 members for some time now and this has worked well, but we also felt that we could use some new blood and there is so much fire talent in this town. The new members are...Drumrollllllll.....the beautiful SamiTe' and Cody. SamiTe' you will probably recognize as an icon on the Asheville bellydance scene as well as various other endevors. You may have seen her spinning that fire whip with Unifire or at Transformus in the past. She brings a new level of choreography that might be tough but good for the troupe as a whole. I am very excited to have her a member. She is an incredibly talented artist with amazing strange presence and as we saw in the auditions, she can think on the fly and is great at improvising. Welcome SamiTe'!

I first met the second member a couple of years ago at one of Unifire's workshops. She has worked as water safety off and on for a couple of years for us as well. In a mere two years, her level of performance has stepped up many notches so that today she is one of the best I have ever seen at fire fans and is pulling moves that Casey and Jesse don't do with poi, which is saying a lot. She is also highly skilled with costumes and makeup. Hurray for Cody and congratulations girl, you have earned it.

Hello Asheville fire folks,

As most of you know, we will be gathering for the full moon in beautiful Pisgah Forest on Sunday, Monday, and wrapping up on Tues. Information is available on the top of the http://tribes.tribe.net/ashevillefullmooon page.

i would like to personally invite the Unifire, Warren Wilson, and other responsible Asheville area fire troupes to join us. We have traditionally not had much fire representation, but i think we can pull it off with the right people involved.

Importantly, as many of you are experts on, safety first. This is public land. Fire extinguishers and kind land practices (fuel care) are appreciated and expected. No fire away from the main field, no fire when ranger present, no fire if asked to discontinue fire.

This could become a beautiful relationship that has tried to birth itself in the past, but some direction from troupe members and the AFMG crew could make this a match made in heaven.

Feel free to message me any questions...
Hope to see out there...

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know about a new burn and I'm part of the planning team for it.

The burn is "Wicker Man" to be held Thursday - Monday, Memorial Day weekend, with setup the weekend before the burn. We are trying to lay the groundwork that will grow into a full-on burn, with an amazing site, roads for art cars, a $4000 art grant budget and plans for a stupendous effigy.

We will be using Four Quarters as our site, which has the rep as one of the most progressive non-profit sites on the east coast. They have given us their full support for Wicker Man. Four Quarters has a pipe water system, hot showers, flush toilets and the always popular port-o-toilets. There are buried power lines for their bio-fueled camp generator, a covered stage and 3 swimming holes. There is lots of camping under tall trees or out in the sun, + 2 miles of gravelled roads. FQ is located 100 miles west of DC and Baltimore, just off I-68.

We want to develop a burn that is art focused and will support big art. And one that has a vision for the future of burns that is sustainable, ecolocially responsible and leaves behind a small footprint. Thus, "Wicker Man", the old celebration the the Green Man and Green energy. We already have lots of theme camps and art projects registered. We plan to have 3 "Theme Towns". Sound Town, where we can run sound all night long, like the Gaian Mind psytrance festival held at Four Quarters, my personal favorite. There is Sin City, down by the river. And Center Circle, a place for nature and spirit, held inside the amazing stone circle at Four Quarters. Yes, there is a circle of standing stones, yes they are HUGE, and yes I've helped raise many of them.

And then there is the Man. Planned at 35 feet high, our man stands on a round Temple to the Spirit of Fire, a big enough room that you can enter and place your own art and offerings for the burn. The roof of the temple is a deck upon which stands the Man, and people can stand too. His belly is the Upper Temple, with room for just one person at a time. Each of his arms will hold a flaming fire pot, and we hope they will move has he burns. This is a huge project and we are looking for as many people as possible to get involved in his construction. Ground breaking for the Man is Friday May 9th and then the next two weekends until the Burn.

Check out our website for more info about theme camps, art projects and the Man himself at wickermanburning.org

This year is my 11th year attending festivals at Four Quarters. Every time I step on the land, I know I'm home.

See you at the Burn!

We've got a strong li'l community of burners here who rock hard, and it'd be great to get as many people out here to burn with us as possible! Somehow known as the pyro-hippies...

Bring fuel and your favorite toys. We'll have some staves, poi, meteors, a dart, a virgin burn of a new hoop design, and probably some fire breathin! Come out and bring your friends! It'll be good times! We'll spin for a while, and then most likely head on over to ghosttown.

--oh yea...of note --> if the statewide burn ban is still up this Wednesday, this spin jam is a no-go. Our fingers are crossed!

hope to see you there!

Parade begins at 5:30 and Unifire Theatre will go on after that and include a new double staff piece with Jesse and me, that I am a little nervous about. There will be an after party at the Grey Eagle with more FireCracker Jazz band and we will hopefully be celbrating the fact that Daniel didn't screw up the piece or at least didn't burn Jesse.

Hoop Convergence April 11 - 16, Carrboro, NC

SCHEDULE (subject to change:-)

Times, arrangements and final teacher details are still being negotiated.
Some classes/activities will be for everyone. There will also be break-out sessions where we divide to meet in smaller groups.

FRIDAY: ARRIVAL

To welcome you to Chapel Hill, NC, we will offer an evening for arrival and orientation. This evening will allow time for a deep breath, casual hooping, nourishing potluck, camp or bunk set-up, meeting other hoopers and orienting for the days ahead.

SATURDAY: THE HOOPING BODY

Saturday will focus on the hoop, our bodies and the relationship and possibilities created between the two.

Circle Up: Saturday we will begin the introduction to the circle with a forum on hoop craft. As the basis of the practice, the hoop, in its varying dimensions, weight, aesthetics, grip and balance affects the experience of hooping. Hoops of differing sizes and weights open new doors for movement possibilities and thus physical, mental and spiritual benefits. There will be time for sharing thoughts on the craft and perhaps make a new hoop.

Movement Workshops: 11 am – 4 pm

Classes on Saturday will focus on foundations, injury prevention (Ariana), flexibility & strength training for hooping (TBA), Handwork (Caroleeena) and compiling a movement inventory (full group activity.)

JAM: Integration time at Town Commons with live music 5 – 9 pm (All ages.)

SUNDAY: COMMUNITY / SHARING & PRESENTING THE DANCE

Sunday’s themes will focus on taking the hoop into the community. We will focus on ways to facilitate hooping in your community, event planning, stylizing the hoop dance and dressing for the occasion.

Circle Up: Annie O, creator of World Hoop Day, will host a morning forum with the assistance of Jewels, creator of Hoops for Haiti and Caroleeena who started the Henrietta Jensen Outreach and Education Project in Jamaica. This will be a great time to envision a community event or social service project for your hometown or a sister community.

Circle Up: In the interest of community, on both local and global levels, Alicat, will host a forum on Sustainability and Hooping. You may be able to educate your community with some of these ideas when you return home for Earth Day.

Weaver St Market Jazz Bruch: 11 am – 1 pm

This is a special spot for us Carrboro hoopers, as Spiral & Jewels began a ritual of getting dressed up and taking bundles of colorful hoops to this space to complement their weekly music events. We believe that this has been a key component to promoting the joy of hooping in Carrboro, NC. This event is free to the public, offers great brunch and beverage options and hosts live music. Great for all ages.

Movement Workshops: 1 – 5 pm

Save some energy because we will be going straight from brunch to workshops for the afternoon. Workshops will feature advanced moves (Stefan of Groovehoops), Street Hooping aka Busking (Revolva), Spinning (Jewels & Spiral) and HoopYoga (TBA.)

Craft: late afternoon/early evening

Sunday evening will feature a crafting, trading and costuming event. Annie Weinhart, of Annieland, will offer a no-sew costume techniques workshop in the late afternoon. This will kick off the costuming and crafting portion of the Convergence. This evening will be an opportunity to create, envision or trade pieces of hoopable clothing or patterns. After much consideration, we don’t believe it will be quite workable to have 30 sewing machines in one room, but we will have a few for easy sew patterns in addition to other fun possibilities. We will let you know how much fabric you need to bring for the workshop. Please begin to collect the fun clothing or chunks of fabric that no longer suit you, but may be passed on or traded.

MONDAY: PERFORMANCE

Monday’s workshops will highlight performance aspects of hoopdance. While not all of us are professional performers, each demonstration for a class, group or community event involve some elements of performance and presentation. Let’s face it, whenever we go out to dance with a hoop, we are on display and are communicating with spectators. Hooping is a form of communication, thus considering these elements of the dance is like honing your conversational skills.

Circle Up: Performance Theories, Tips and Personal Stories

Movement Workshops: 10 – 2

Workshops will feature Choreography (Stefan), Engaging an Audience (TBA), Partner Techniques (Ammon & Marria)

Make-Up Techniques: 4 pm

Christine & Patika will lead us through a workshop on make-up application to highlight our natural beauty prior to a super sweet jam. Professional performers and make-up artists, they will surely host an informative and fun pre-ball party.
Full spectrum of needs to be announced.

JAM: Hoop hop set 7 – Midnight (Final details to come.)

With its bumping bass kicks and lyrical flowetry, Hip Hop has had tremendous influence on some of us Carrboro hoopers. This evening will feature live instrumental hip hop jams for your spinning pleasure. This may also be a time to offer a performance to the circle of hoopdancers. Part of the evening will also be DJ’d with a variety of styles of grooviness.

TUESDAY: FIRE

Circle Up: Alicat will facilitate a forum to Compare/Contrast Fire Hoop Designs Safety. Several fire hoop designers will be present to show their fire hoops and tell stories of their creation. Ali will introduce other designs (for some not present) and discuss the differences, advantages, disadvantages, etc. You will also leave the Convergence with an extensive safety packet compiled by Caroleeena.

Craft: After viewing a variety of fire hoop designs and meeting some crafters, we will offer this time for a hands’ on experience of fire hoop craft. This will be a collaborative project as creating a fire hoop is a labor intensive endeavor. We hope to introduce materials, tools, techniques for wick wrapping and complete one hoop to christen during the evening burn!

Movement Workshops: Afternoon

Workshops will feature Fire Hoop practice, Twin Hooping (Jewels & Spiral), HoopYoga (TBA), More (TBA)

Fire: After Dark

Fire Dancing and Drumming~ Gathering around a fire is a sacred, traditional ritual. As humans, we have lost some of our connection with fire in modern times and thus lost respect for its tremendous power of sustaining, transformation and healing. Fire is a powerful element with powers of creation and destruction. We will offer time to initiate, perform and share fire dancing experiences to burn away that which we no longer need and send prayers, hopes and wishes for the future through this dance. We hope this evening will be fiery, fun and ritualistic as we channel our Shiva energies. Incredible rhythms provided.

WEDNESDAY: HEALING HOOP DANCE

Wednesdays themes will focus on Cultivating Creativity, Nurturing Spirit, Healing Potentials of Hoopdance, Working with Special Populations and Social Outreach.

Circle Up: Hooping as Healing Art and Social Service

Writing Your Hoopdance (Revolva), Hooping as Sacred Movement (Jewels), Hooping with Special Populations (Ariana & Laura), Hooping & The Chakras (Tracey), More TBA

Closing ceremonies TBA

We are also including some business and teaching information. Some info will be included in the orientation packet for you. Circle Ups on these topics TBA. More details are being finalized everyday. Stay tuned for teacher bios and more details on events.

REGISTRATION
Full event, five days = $350 (This includes all workshops, jams, forums)
Three days = $250
Day passes = $95
Unifire and You at the Maudi Gras Parade

Ahhh, fat Tuesday. Such fond and debaucherous memories flood me around this time of the year. I recall making my way through the throngs on Bourbon street, sidestepping the vomit and avoiding a fight with a frat boy shouting "show yer tits" to anyone that would half turn his way. "Throw me the beads Mister!" young girls screamed and stumbled past, offering kisses or a view of their bare chest for a 25 cent string of beads. Because my eye was on a goal that lay far ahead and because I had seen enough breast to last a lifetime (okay, because I had already given out all the beads I owned) I barely gave them a glance. I would stop only for the refill of Hurricane, that blood like poison that was slowly begin to radiate in my bones and make me feel all numb and happy. I pass under the large banner that reads "got latex?" and the frat boys quickly thin out and I can breathe once again. My eyes take in the sights, and oh what sights there are to see. Man sex in the streets with cameras whirring away, a piano bar with a pianist who grabs his tips with a gator head whose mouth moves via a long pole structurally wired to bite down on a crumpled dollar when squeezed, a midget doing a shot of tequilla out of a goth girls behind, and best of all...a group of fire performers spinning things and breathing flames from their mouths. Before I even realize it it is 4:30 am, I have hit a wall, I have no idea where my friends are, let alone my underwear . But I am stumbly happy, still have half a cup of hurricane and have made friends with the fire freaks who are now telling me about this thing called kevlar.

The next day, nursing that ill gotten hangover, and trying to remember how I woke up in that particular bed, I sit on the curb down on Royal street and listen to washboard Lisa as she plays away my blues and wonder if I couldn't breathe fire too.

Well, my wild times in New Orleans may have long since passed but we can all re-live the glory that is Maudi Gras sans the frat boys, the public man sex, and the blackouts without ever leaving the comfort of our cozy mountains. Thanks to the folks at Mystic Mountain Crewe (a few of asheville's finest "Nawleans" transplants,) there will be a parade that you are welcome to attend or participate in. If you have a group of five or more or do something special like stiltwalk, let me know and I will get you in touch with the powers that be (namely Sarah Widenhouse) to reserve you a most premium spot in the parade. The parade will leave from Joli ROuge around 5 pm and meander the streets of downtown before stopping at Prichard Park for the annual and free Unifire Theatre show featuring nearly all of the members of Unifire with a new choreographed set and spinning the flames to the sweet tunage of the Firecracker Jazz Band. Sho hopin' to see ya'll dere!

Future of Tradition Productions and Arts2People have joined forces for the Asheville Holiday Parade! To foster community support for the arts, we are constructing a float with the theme of a Magic Carpet Ride, and entering it in the float contest. We are excited for the opportunity to bring people together for a day of fun, food & art to make this dream a reality. The parade theme this year is 'creating community thru celebration' - let's start with a party!

We will have the first Art Party on Oct 28 - 12 - 7 PM, at Kitty's. We will be making banners, assembling & painting the magic carpet and making the giant tassels. No artistic talent required, just enthusiasm. Please bring something to eat or drink and your creativity! Kid and new mom-friendly. If you would like directions, call Kitty at (828) 216 8815 or contact Torva at Torvawench@gmail.com.

Lots of performance dates to see some fire and performance art coming up...Here goes. This friday Unifire will perform at Prichard Park around dark for "pumpkins in the Park". Free. Later that night we will be at "the garage-new venue by the French Broad Brewery performing with Menage, Jenny Greer, DJ Bowie, Avec La Force, etc. for the Danse Macabre Party. $10. Sat. most of Unifire will be at the Scorpio Party at the mothership on Emma Road. I'll be performing with Ambra at CarnEvil in Charlotte. Halloween, Unifire performs at the Wedge Gallery for a Halloween benefit. At 12:30 Jessie and Melanie will perform a show at a venue next to Scandals. Nov. 2-3 Unifire at the Hemlock Festival in SC.

Also prepare your talent now as my Annual Talent Show party will be on Nov. 17. An annual party of gargantuan proportions where you and many Asheville celebrities perform for the coveted Talent Show Extravaganza Grand Prize. The acts sound incredible and I will be joined by the infamous Leslie acting as co-host. Don't miss it. Fire, burlesque, music, human oddities, etc. etc. It will be held at the Mothership on Emma Road due to excessive noise ordinance violations at my house.

Lastly, do not forget the workshop for fire performers to be held at the other ship (see a previous post) $15 will get you in the door and you will leave with a wealth of knowledge on fire safety and staff and poi spinning.

Cool, any questions?

There is going to be a party/dance/festival-esque event next friday night - October 12th. It's going to be a 2-story party, with a field/courtyard just outside with tiki torches for fire spinnin and just chillin. The bottom floor is going to be a lounge sort of place with fine foods, teas and delacacies of all types. The top floor is going to be completely cleared out & decked out to be a dance floor with dj space, with an island at the front of the room for the dj's tables and eq.

We are looking for a DJ or two --with-- their own equipment to spin from about 10-1am (1am because of noise ordinances). We are lookin for music that ranges from house to hip-hop to dub-step to stuff like Daft Punk and Depeche Mode.

This is going to be at Warren Wilson College, in the EcoDorm residence hall. If any of you are familiar with the space...you know its a sweet place for something like this.

If you want to DJ, or know anybody that would want to DJ, you can call me at 336-263-6996, send me a message, or email me at tjohnson@warren-wilson.edu.

A bunch of us went out there this past Sunday and had a blast. I thought I'd post some videos so more of us fire people might come out next time.
I've got a couple more I have yet to add, but there are four up right now for your viewing pleasure.

The people you see are Amy (fire eating) from Utsulo Terra, the Greensboro-based fire troup, Daniel (devil sticks & fire breathing) from UniFire, Todd (fire breathing) from Warren Wilson and myself (double fire staff for the first time) from Warren Wilson.
